  1. My only problem with the A-7 is it does a bad job of staying alive. What is the point of moving dirt if your dirt movers die before they get there? The A-4 is able to save it's own tail most of the time. And not many targets require more than three or four bombs anyways. And if it does, that's what flights of multiple aircraft are for.
  2. For me best results on a strike mission have been low and fast. The SAMs like to get to altitude before they track so if you stay around the 1500-1000ft mark you are pretty safe from the big ones. The AAA also don't do a very good job when you are zipping by at mach 1. If I am doing fighter work I try to force them out of the SAM's operating radius. If I can't do that then I try to keep things moving around as much as possible.
  3. I just got a copy of WoE and I'm having fun but something is messing with the gameplay. When I try to exit missions the game closes out for no reason. I checked the settings and the esc key is mapped to exit the mission ctrl+Q is mapped to close the program. Why does this happen? It's not a big deal but my stats don't get recorded and the only way to complete and record the mission is to eject and lose my aircraft and that doesn't help my score at all. Has anyone else had this problem? Or know how to fix it?

  5. I have to go with the A-4. I don't like relying on escorts to cover my tail. I have been able to fight off MIGs in A-4s before. But every time I have tried to go A2A in a SLUFF I get smoked.
  6. I have had that happen before. Many times I will fire a sidewinder, shaffir, magic, ahpid etc and it will detonate just aft and will take out the rudder or elevators and she will keep flying. I think it has to do with the small warheads that most IRM's carry. Isn't the warhead on a sidewinder only 7lbs?
  7. They operate SA-6's but it wasn't until the mid 70's that they could have been deployed at the earliest. So a little late for the war. They also operate the SA-9. Although I'm not sure if they deployed them against US forces.
  8. What is more effective? Or is that more left to the individual ecm device in question? I get the feeling that in general ECM in the games is under powered. I know we haven't lost many planes recently to SAMs. So why does my F-35 keep getting shot down? I would think the stealth combined with the advanced ECM on it would leave me all but invulnerable to SAMs.
  9. Looking at screen shots I think this game on a visual level competes with the dogfights show they have on the History Channel. They use pre rendered models and they are super imposed over filmed environments. The model quality of SF2 looks to rival that of Dog Fights and the terrains seem to have been improved also.
  10. The MIG's had me out gunned no doubt but they aren't dog fighters. The things take a city block to turn. I was able to stick on his tail. The only thing I am lacking is good gun control. How do you hit stuff? Often times I end up closing in on them and passing them up and slam on the brakes. Either that or I waste time spraying at them and every now and then I get lucky. Are gun kills really this hard or am I bad at it?
  11. Yesterday I had fun flying a SEAD mission with AV8-B's. It was just two of us. With Fighter cover provided by F-15s. They weren't very helpful. The mission at first was going pretty good. The target was in the mountains so I kept her low and as close to the mach limit as I could and crept under the radar most of the way up. The Mav's I carried made quick work of the air defenses at the air strip we hit. They only had a flight of Mig-21mfs guarding the place and they were no match for the AIM-9 Lima's. Things started to go bad once we began to RTB. A flight of 5 Mig-31's came out of nowhere. I tried to dogfight with one of them but ran out of guns. I ended up out maneuvering him and he hit the dirt. My wing man and I hit the deck and full throttle and hoped we could get past em. Fat chance. They followed us all the way home. I had 4 Aphids fired at me. Dodged em all somehow. They finally broke off 10 miles from home. They either got scared of the stinger sites or they ran out of fuel. Either way I'm not complaining. THAT was hairy. I had a few near misses with mountains on the way back and I was acutely aware of the finite number flares and chaff I had. The F-15's never came to help. I kept asking TACOM for support and they wouldn't give it. I'm surprised my wing man made it out. I would have to attribute it to the Aphids being unreliable, but we all know that's not true.
  12. I think it was stated earlier that they haven't figured out how to add weapons to SF2 yet.
  13. My ECM experience has been mixed. For a lot of the older aircraft they are very under protected when it comes to SAMs. Most of the time that is solved by installing ecm in place of one of my missile and learning to fly strike missions very low to the ground. Some of the newer aircraft however have very ineffective built in ECM like the Atlas Chettah, even after doubling its ecm power i was still being shot down. Also for some reason the F-35 is pretty easily aquired by not just SAM sights but all Radar based missles. I noticed that many times my RWR wont catch an SA-6 launch, luckily the ai normally announce a SAM launch over the radio. I find the best SAM countermeasures are flying fast and low, around the 1,000ft mark even with long term radar lock I haven't had a SAM hit me. I have had to glide back to base a few times from burning up all of my fuel going mach 1 on the deck but thats better than the alternative.
  14. Looks like the 3d engine has been updated. The shading is much better and the pits are a lot sharper because of it. The overall look of the models and texturing give it a more polished and believable look. TK has brought SF into the vista era.

  17. I just downloaded and tried this. For some reason she likes to creep to the right. If I leave hands off the stick and set the time compression she rolls over and runs right into the ground. Is there a fix for this?
  18. How do I add large airfields to the Vietnam SEA map? So far I have just been setting my bombers to medium airfields, but I don't think I can do that with the new Neptune super heavy bomber.
  19. I'm trying to use the Isreal2 terrain in WOV. I followed the directions in the knowledge based and I meticulously changed the airfields. But I still have large areas of unrendered ground. The tutorial pointed me to two places that have terrain replacement packs that I could use. But both websites are down. Does anyone know of an alternate place to get them?

  22. I just downloaded the Pakistani skybolt, but it needs the magoo/badger mi12-f pit. Except the uploaded didn't include it and I couldn't find it on the download page. Can someome give me a link to it?

  24. This one is odd. It only happens with the F-14. When I use missiles the HUD lacks and kind of aiming reticule. It has crosshairs for the 20mm cannon, but all missiles, ARH, SARH, IR, don't have aiming reticules. Any ideas?
