  1. memory reference errors refer to ram not the hard drive. That would be a sector error. Windows' errors can be in technobabble, but their terminology is consistent. Memory = ram, storage = hard drive. Run memtest86. If you pass that then its a software error. A lot of pre-built pcs use cheap ram and it can go bad. I know I have had to replace the memory on many machines.
  2. Thanks for the encouragement. Would you mind letting me having a look over AIDE? It might help me get a handle on how it all works. The books looks great but for a starving college student, who already has a lot of books to buy the internet is my greatest ally. I think I am going to start by researching the math behind this (wiki of course!) and start messing with some inis.
  3. Hmmm no wonder there are so few FM guys. It seems I have a lot of work to do. I always wondered what mach tables they were referring to in the inis. As if there was some secret reference graph or chart that they used to get the values from.
  4. They will bingo and go home, but they never run dry to my knowledge.
  5. Heh that's pretty awesome. For me, I started just loading the missions in the air. Taking off and landing were the last things I learned. I know the real fly boys here will get on me for that but for this game I found it to be easier. As for landing. Just put it on auto pilot and watch what the AI does a few times. Then practice, and practice some more. Everyone has a bad landing every now and then. For dog fighting it's mostly trial and error, you learn as you go. You will be shot down a lot at first. There are books written on the subject and fighting in every plane is different and over time you will learn the strengths and weaknesses of each. I'll go ahead and tell you now that the Super Sabre is not a good dog fighter. You can fight in it, but you have to be good. Every now and then I go up in one on a fighter sweep just for the challenge. But the F-100 is really at home when moving mud.
  6. what exactly are you having trouble with? taking off, landing, dog fighting or just making the thing fly in a straight line?
  7. I don't think it's alleged I'm pretty sure they did contact him and asked for his input when designing the A-10.
  8. Well the Farmer, climbs faster, turns better, accelerates faster, has a higher top speed at all levels and has a high ceiling than the RF-84F. I'd say if you come up against them you are in a world of hurt. The one thing you have going for you is range, you can stay up much longer. If you get caught in a fight I would just try and juke around and dodge them long enough till they either run out of ammo or they run out of fuel. Diving wouldn't hurt but he can catch up pretty easily so don't bet on it.
  9. I'm a fool. I should have remembered for some reason winrar can open .jar files and its mislabeling it. EDIT: Yeah a quick uninstall of winrar gave me the .jar. Sorry about that guys. I had a brain fart.
  10. It doesn't work. There is a .rar that is labeled Fps_limiter_Gui, but there is not .exe in there. And yes I have java.
  11. There is no file called gui. The exe is called FPS_Limiter for me.
  12. I try to run the exe but it doesn't do anything. A command line window opens then closes immediately. I'm running vista x64.
  13. If you could possibly fit ti in a Nakajima Ki-84 and a Kawasaki Ki-61 would be great. The early war Japanese fighters are well covered, but I haven't seen either of these yet. They would give the Mustang and Hellcat a run for their money.
  14. I like to think of Fuel air explosives as 2,000lb bombs in 500lb packages. They pack a lot of wallop.
  15. Hah, seems I fixed it. I was looking in the wrong place. You have to change some lines in the FlightControl section. I changed the MaxSpeedSL and the mach limit. I ended up going to mach 7.14 and reaching 190k feet.
  16. Is that the MF Hornet or the superbug that you did that? EDIT: I just changed it to hard and tried it with the MF hornet. Its really easy to break a wing off. If you do a hard turn at 450knots IAS you are liable to loose the wing. And unlike the F-15 there is no coming back from that.
  17. I guessed it was a new model when I saw the tail hook. That, and the refueling probe were the two obvious things missing from the current f-86 based Fury we have. Will this one be able to carry 4 sidewinders also?
  18. All that did was give me really high acceleration. I still topped out at mach 2.14. There are a lot of values relating to mach tables. I bet they have something to do with it. Unfortunately the knowledge base doesn't get that in depth. I have no idea what any of the values mean.
  19. ok so I figured out why my engines were blowing up. I had to add another line elsewhere to put the engines in the fuselage. I now have 3 engines. But something is limiting my speed. I ramp up the throttle to max and I top out at Mach 2.14 again. Heck I can reach mach 2.14 at 43% throttle. The power of my engines are being wasted, somewhere there is a setting that is holding me back. If one of the FM modders could chime in that would be awesome, is there a line that determines the absolute maximum velocity of an aircraft?
  20. I just started in the air, and my engine was out. Are you moving the engines around or something? It seems the game wont let you overlap engines.
  21. TSFC is the fuel consumption. What did you change? EDIT: I copied the engine and I exploded when the mission started.
  22. high speed stall? All the time. Just fly really high. If you are in a good and fast jet like a Viper, you can stall at 70k feet going mach 1. As for the compression stall, only when I have really messed with the aircraft. It has never happened in a normal plane, but some of my modified ones have done it in deep high speed dives. By deep I mean diving from 80k feet and pulling out at 1000 feet. Even then it never full locks up, the controls are just very sluggish, I'm not even sure if its a proper compression stall. I just cut the power and apply air brakes. I can usually pull out without blacking out.
  23. How were you able to do that? I've been messing with the F-16 and all I can get it to do is mach 2.14 at 30k feet in level flight and the engine overheats a lot. Here is my engine data: // Engines --------------------------------------------------------- [Engine] ReferenceName=Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-200 SystemType=JET_ENGINE InputName=THROTTLE_CONTROL EngineID=1 HasAfterburner=TRUE NumAfterburnerStages=5 SLThrustDry=652600.00 SLThrustWet=1060000.00 ThrustAngles=0.0,0.0,0.0 ThrustPosition=0.00,-4.825,-0.065 ThrottleRate=0.20 NozzleAnimationID=10 ReverseAnimation=TRUE IdleThrottle=0.05 IdleRPM=0.53 IdleNozzle=1.0 CruiseThrottle=0.55 CruiseRPM=0.60 CruiseNozzle=1.0 MilThrottle=0.75 MilRPM=0.80 MilNozzle=1.0 MaxThrottle=0.90 MaxRPM=1.00 MaxNozzle=1.0 FullABThrottle=1.1 FullABRPM=1.10 FullABNozzle=0.0 AltitudeTableNumData=95 AltitudeTableDeltaX=190.5 AltitudeTableStartX=0.0 AltitudeTableData=0.967,0.950,0.933,0.917,0.900,0.884,0.867,0.851,0.834,0.818,0.802,0.786,0.770,0.754,0.738,0.722,0.707,0.691,0.676,0.661,0.646,0.631,0.616,0.602,0.587,0.573,0.559,0.545,0.532,0.519,0. 505,0.493,0.480,0.467,0.455,0.443,0.431,0.420,0.408,0.398,0.387,0.376,0.366,0.356,0.346,0.336,0.327,0.318,0.309,0.300,0.291,0.283,0.275,0.267,0.259,0.252,0.244,0.237,0.230,0.223,0.217,0.210,0.204,0.19 8 ,0.191,0.185,0.180,0.174,0.168,0.163,0.157,0.152,0.147,0.142,0.137,0.132,0.127,0.122,0.117,0.113,0.108,0.104,0.100,0.096,0.092,0.088,0.084,0.081,0.078,0.075,0.072,0.069,0.067,0.065,0.063 DryMachTableNumData=23 DryMachTableDeltaX=0.1 DryMachTableStartX=0.0 DryMachTableData=0.9998975,0.9969054,0.9871281,0.9801894,0.9787295,0.9815887,0.9859553,0.9887036,0.9871231,0.9792154,0.9637078,0.9399085,0.9075026,0.8663621,0.816418,0.7576165,0.6899572,0.6135831,0.52 88697,0.4364326,0.3369491,0.2306617,0.1164092 WetMachTableNumData=23 WetMachTableDeltaX=0.1 WetMachTableStartX=0.0 WetMachTableData=1.000,0.9841792,0.9639776,0.9839368,1.0247845,1.0630029,1.0914192,1.1184638,1.1585787,1.2219416,1.308055,1.4048556,1.4928144,1.5520237,1.5695111,1.5439723,1.485782,1.4115204,1.3343484 ,1.2543647,1.1565995,1.0285302,0.9139455 MaxInletTemperature=120 GyroscopicInertia= TSFCM0=0.0725 TSFCM1=0.175 AfterburnerTSFC=0.900 MinFuelFlow=0.01 ExhaustPosition=0,-6.97,-0.065 ExhaustEmitterName=CleanExhaustEmitter AfterburnerEmitterName=ViperEffects AfterburnerEffectSize=0.85 MinExtentPosition=0.573,-1.758,0.161 MaxExtentPosition=-0.573,-4.913,-0.416 FireSuppression=TRUE GasTempMaxRPM=58.0 GasTempIdleRPM=34.0 GasTempChangeRate=1.0 OverheatTemp=68000.0 DamageTempDelta=30.0 OilPressMaxRPM=48.0 OilPressIdleRPM=42.0 OilPressChangeRate=0.3 LowOilPress=35.0 LowOilTempDelta=400.0 Basically I messed with the thrust, the tsfc, and the overheat temp. it still overheats easily and it guzzles fuel so I guess I didn't take them low enough. And I don't know why it won't go higher than mach 2.14.
  24. Infinite speed, how did you manage that? I find that those mach charts that are programmed into the FM often really limit how fast a bird can go, even if you double the power of the engine or more. I've done back flips in a Viper going mach 1.4, several times in a row. Instant blackout, but I have never broken a wing off.
