  1. Rheinmetall 20mm... Early 80s over Ovamboland...
  2. During a recon mission, light flak caused damage at landing gear... Right wheel was damaged. Luckily the pilot landed safely with right wheel destroyed... Things like this can happen when you underestimate AAAs.
  3. I think that you should also increase the fuze distances in order to simulate the hit but not kill situation. Almost 100% of stock missiles kill an aircraft when impact.
  4. F-117 Nighthawk

An interesting detail about stealth technology concept in general is that back in 1962 the Soviet mathematician Petr Ufimtsev published his research about the scattering of electromagnetic waves from two-dimensional and three-dimensional objects. At the time his research was considered to be of no significant military or economic value. A stealth engineer at Lockheed, Denys Overholser, had read the publication and realized that Ufimtsev had created the mathematical theory and tools to do finite analysis of radar reflection. This discovery inspired and had a role in the design of the first true stealth aircraft, the Lockheed F-117. Northrop also used Ufimtsev's work to program super computers to predict the radar reflection of the B-2 bomber. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petr_Ufimtsev
  5. @streakeagle Excuse me but it was just a general conclusion I have made after so many years of flying in SF2. Yes... there are few cases like AIM-9B or Shafrir-2 where in game performance comes close to real life. Concerning AIM-7E wikipedia states a Pk of less than 10% in Vietnam. In SF2 I usually get one kill out of 4-5 shots against easy targets with AIM-7E. Later Sparrow versions such as 7F or 7M seem to have far superior performance. Everytime these missiles are fired and the target can not jam or deploy chaff, then usually it's a kill. I get at least 3 kills out of 4 shots with 7F (Pk=0.75) compared with the 0.55-0.59 which wikipedia states for 7M which is actually better than 7F. I don't know what other users experience with Sparrow but in my experience in SF2 the missile seems to be much superior than the real one. I agree that TK made some things easier for the blue side player and not only speaking about air to air missiles. Stock SAMs are quite ineffective compared with what they can actually do. @Crusader So, if I have understood correctly, if a missile has Seeker Gimbal Limits +/- 40 then FOV is 40*2 = 80 ?
  6. I always considered air to air missiles of the game (both blue and red side) as hyper effective. Short range IR missiles can be launched from long distances, from very wide angles and sometimes their kinetic energy is quite superior. I think that this project is badly needed.

  8. Congratulations guys! Keep up the good work!
  9. I guess that happens only when these air defenses fire from fortified positions like this one: This is the only case when I have experienced what you described. There were many cases of AAAs or MANPADS which malfunctioned during launch but only when they were "protected" by infrastructure like that. Well... it seems that the game engine can not understand that the ground based rounds/missiles can hit the fortification if the shoot angle is below the fortification height. But I guess that's normal... stock game does not feature "protection" for air defenses.
  10. Good news... Interestingly it was South Africa (and not France) who requested a mobile SAM system back in the 60s. Finally South Africa paid 85% of the development cost with the system being operational first with South African Armed Forces in 1971. Rare footage of Cactus (system name in SADF service): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USh97KrOMjY

  13. I don't know if TODs from EAW can be imported to SF2. EAW used a file format with the extension .TER for each tile. I don't know if this .TER includes trees, buildings etc.
  14. Yes it's easy This is a tileset I use for an upcoming terrain.
  15. 21 years ago on March 27, 1999 A formation of 4 F-117As is about to take off for another strike mission near Belgrade... That night escort jammers EA-6B were grounded due to bad weather... So the Nighthawks had to rely exclusively on their stealth characteristics... F-117As were basically following the very same routes... The 3rd Battalion of the 250th Air Defense Missile Brigade managed to acquire and track the "Vega-31"... At about 8:15 pm local time, with a range of about 8 miles 2 V-601P missiles were launched... The first one passed very close but didn't detonate... and the second gets very close... The second missile detonates causing significant damage to the aircraft and causing it to tumble out of control... The aircraft crushed near the village of Budanovci... The shotdown of "Vega-31" was the first and only verified combat kill of a stelath aircraft and interestingly that kill was achieved with outdated 60s era surface to air missiles.
  16. Warthunder Ground Forces

I'm not sure if this is the only War Thunder topic but I was very curious to see if there other members here enjoy playing this game. I have tried WoT long time ago but I don't like the game (battle) interface. I feel its quite arcade. I agree with 76.IAP that WoT is more tactical compared with WT. For guys who enjoy playing ground forces games/sims I think WT is a must with countless vehicles dating from the 1930's up to modern ones. The player can select different vehicle types such as light/medium/heavy tanks, tank destroyers and anti-aircraft vehicles and even anti-tank missile vehicles on the higher ranks. It really impresses me that last post for WT was back in 2014... Any other WT fans here?

  19. The Corona Virus Thread

Athens, Greece here and as acesfakia said almost everything is closed. Super markets, pharamacies, gas stations and take away shops mostly work. Also many employees were encouraged to work from home if possible. Many people I know work from home these days. As of now, 387 have been verified as virus carriers and 5 people have died. In general majority of people have understood how critical the situation is. Personally, I am afraid a bit more cause I work on a medical center as radiographer and apart from some critical or emergency exams, there are some people who come for their annual check up ignoring guidelines for public health. Fortunatelly all these irresponsible people are minority. Take care.
