Great Britain guts military services.
shotdown replied to SayethWhaaaa's topic in Military and General Aviation
You're right. National defence has become the last and least important issue in the list of military priorities (Of course, this list is made by politicians and the soldiers are not asked) Think of us. Our army has helicopters that our military men never wanted (they wanted Apaches and Black Hawks but got Cougars and Tigers instead). A few years ago, our government decided to build the 5th of the F-100 class Frigate... even though there were not enough people availble to man the existing ships (but...our shipyards needed some help, and the loss of money that could be invested in something else more neccessary doesn't really matter, right?. Doesn't matter if our soldiers must fly in 30-40 years old helicopters. We all know the soldiers will adapt to whatever stupid situation in wich they are left by our politicians ). And btw, defence is far from the main government expense here (And in most western countries, I think.) -
That's not what I've heard about belgian chocolate.

Mig Alley for IL2:1946?
shotdown replied to Dave's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
I only know there are some Korea war era planes in the U.P 2.0 mod. -
We don't really have two carriers I wish we had, but.... That ship is not a real airplane carrier and I don't think it will carry ariplanes (except, perhaps when the "Píncipe de Asturias" is on dry dock for repairs or refit)

Fuel mixture and others
shotdown replied to Jaman's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
If I'm not mistaken, the mixture can be lowered to 10%. About effect on the supercharger I don't really know, sorry. -
RAF under fire as battle for shrinking defence budget turns vicious
shotdown replied to Erik's topic in CombatACE News
If the Navy thinks that, why are they building new aircraft carriers?. aren't the "highly expensive fast jets" the main (perhaps even the only) reason for those ships to be built? -
UK May Borrow F-18s For Carriers; F-35Bs May Be Scrapped
shotdown replied to Erik's topic in CombatACE News
British government wants to cut military budget, and I'm sure keepping Gibraltar is too expensive, so... -
U.S. Air Force to Work on First New Bomber Since B-2

Do you mean internal weapon storage? -
My favorite Manga was Macross, though I've only watched it in its american incarnation: Robotech part 1. Actually, Robotech was created from 3 independent animes: Macross, Southern Cross and Genessis Climber Mospeada, because the guys from Harmony gold needed at least a 65 episodes show and their first choice (Macross) only had 36, so they put the tree of them together and changed the plot (keeping Macross as the core) to merge the 3 tales into 1.

I thought MANPADS worked against Helicopters, and those are quite slower than the Super Tucano so...

The eurofighter's size and weight are somewhere between F-16 and F-18 (and less than those of the MiG 35). I don't think those are heavy fighter numbers.

I might be wrong, but I think it was a nuclear bomb. The explossion wasn´t big because they managed to damage the bomb enough to make it impossible to work as it was intended.

An I'm sure you're not the only one.

Also, there were no strategic bombers, so the army air force only needed to think of defending USA from neighbour countries (Canada, Mexico) that lacked air power. More powerful enemies were far away and in case war started they had to deal with a very powerful US Navy

Modernized military Hardware
shotdown replied to 76.IAP-Blackbird's topic in Military and General Aviation
I think it's a matter of weight. With weapons and internal cargo, it becomes too heavy and difficult to manouver. I've heard the cargo space is used to carry extra ammo. -
I think the real reason for US to stay away was that Roosevelt was a simpathizer of the spanish government, but supporting them was a very risky move for FDR, since 1936 was a presidential ellection year and by helping an openly anti-catholic government (thousand were killed just for being catholic) would make him lose a lot of support (american catholics were mostly democrat-supporters, so there were a lot of votes to lose). I also think american planes were not as far behind those of other countries as has been said here; remember the german mainn fighter at the beginning of the Spanish civil war was the Heinkel 51, and most countries still used biplane fighters while the USAAC already had the Boeing P-26 monoplane fighter.

I thought Bolo was the Douglas B-18 (the bomber DC-3).

Anti Aircraft Laser unveiled at Farnborough
shotdown replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in Military and General Aviation
I think destroying a missile shouldn't take as much energy as it takes to destroy a plane, and missiles don't manouver to avoid incoming fire. Also, if you shoot the laser into an incoming missile you will probably hit the missile nose, where the tracking system (radar, IR) is ussually located (I think), so I think the heat from the laser might be enough to destroy the guiding system even before actually damaging the missile body. To make a long story short, I think it might take a much shorter time to destroy or disable a missile than it takes to do it with a plane, so I think it this laser could work as a short range anti missile defence system -

Well, for those of you who read Bram Stoker's Dracula this is not the first time you read about an already dead murderer being beheaded with a Kukri

I'd really like to know what you call "good shot" . The pictures you posted are lightyears ahead of anything I can do.
