  1. Seems like I messed up at the end of my last mission. I must have hit refly rather than accept, because when I relaunched SF2 my pilot showed as having flown only one mission, and having one kill. To even things up I quickly launched another mission and then aborted it, so at least my missions flown is as it should be.. Hope that's alright. Mission 3. Another short CAP up north. Again, two 21s tried to bounce us on take-off. We made short work of them. I got one with a winder. Nothing more to say really.
  2. 2nd misson, a CAP on the Egyptian Border. Notice a Red flight on an intercept. Order my flight to engage, and fire myself. There's lots of Sparrows in the air. Not sure who got the kills but I don't care, that's two Mig-19s dealt with. Mig-19s give me nightmares. Made short work of the two 17s at the target area. All I had to do was maneuver around while my flight took care of them Heading back, looks like they've vectored another Red flight towards us. Some more Sparrows make easy work of them. Man, I never get tired of the fly by cam of a burning target. So - second mission over and done with. Good work, I got 2 kills. I'm happy with that. Looks like Sparrows are the way to go in '69. Man - you gotta love BVR missiles. The only thing that worries me is - when are the other side gonna start using them?
  3. After playing in the desert and Vietnam for a few years I've finally gotten found to having a go in Israel. Hopefully I'll keep this guy alive through the Attrition War, Yom Kipur, Golan Stalemate and Lebanon War. Pilot: David Silverman Game: SF2I Campaign: Attrition War Date: October '69. Squadron: No. 69 Hammers Aircraft: F-4E Kurnass Briefing: Just a quick hop up North it looks like. Still climbing to my first waypoint and I get something on the radar. Looks like the target's coming my way already. Order my flight to engage. Whilst we're still closing someone takes out the first 21 with a Sparrow. Good work fellas! The second one banks hard around trying to get on the tail on one of my flight. He's on full burner, making him easy meat for my Winder. He hits the drink pretty close to the first one. Nice little Milk run for my first mission. The whole thing couldn't have lasted than ten minutes from start to finish.
  4. Hi BeachAV8R. To answer a few of the questions brought up in your AAR 3. Is it possible to change the information box size or text size in the bottom left corner? 4. Is it possible to have a very small padlock icon on targets that have been visually selected using the "E" key? Oh yes - see screenies. In order to get a minimal HUD like above, first I used the CAT extractor to extract the relevant files. Get it here http://combatace.com...hiving-utility/ Copy the Flight Data cat from your SF2 directory into a temporary folder somewhere, and use the CAT app to unpack it. (I copy it out so I don't FUBAR something in the main directory. Been there. Done that. ) Look inside the unpacked folder and find the HUDDATA.ini. Then edit the entries for [Display001],[Display002] and [Display003] to change the cone size and box size for friendly, enemy and radar targets. In this case I changed ConeSize=25 <<<<<changed to 12 BoxSize=10 <<<<<changed to 3 For a much less in your face HUD. I also edited the font size for the info boxes. TextFontName=Arial TextSize=20 <<<<<changed to 12 You can try smaller numbers that this, but I found these figures just about right for my monitor. Finally I edited out [Display004] and [Display005] to remove the HUD radar and floating waypoint triangles. I did it by just deleting the entire entries for [Display004] and [Display005], but I believe you can achieve the same thing by adding a double forward slash in front of the entries. Lastly - you need to now move your changed HUDDATA.ini into your MOD folder. Your MOD folder is in Username/SavedGames/ThirdWire/StrikeFighters2. Drop your new ini into the 'Flight' folder. If there is not one in you MOD folder then simply create one called 'Flight'. Whilst you're at it you may as well edit the MESSAGESYSTEM.ini, and change the font size in that to 12 also. Also move this changed MESSAGESYSTEM.ini into your 'Flight' folder. This will change the size of the message box in the bottom centre of the screen you get from Red Crown, other aircraft etc... 5. It appears there is no trim (or not much of a need to trim anyway)? You can't trim the aircraft yourself. You'll find that they trim themselves according to your airspeed. For example in the F4 (my favorite bird) below about 350 knots it feels as if it is trimmed down, once you get much above that it feels trimmed up. It also varies according to what you are flying. I've just started flying a Shahak, and man, as you approach Mach 1 in that thing it needs a whole load of forward pressure on the stick just to keep it level. Looking forward to your next AAR Beach. Sorry if I am teaching anyone to suck eggs here, that's not my intention. But it took me quite a lot of reading the Knowldege Base and experimenting to figure the above out, so if it helps someone else out then why not? Please don't clown me.
  5. En route to Cairo Got there finally - thanks Wrench.
  6. Sorry - can't figure out how to link to pix in my gallery. Back soon.

  11. I've been playing around with the campaign files for several different mods recently, basically to try and learn how to create a new campaign for myself. I have noticed this as well - it's not specifically related to the War for Independence Mod. Even if I set Recon to zero the game will still occasionally generate a recon mission. The way I figure it, sometimes the game will not be able to generate a mission appropriate to your aircraft type or squadron assignment, so will default to giving you a recon mission in lieu of having you do nothing. So definitely not a bug with this mod. More a limitation of the game engine. Anyway - I just thought I'd pitch in with my 2 cents.
  12. That's a nice little read mate. Looking forward to the next part :wink2:
  13. Well, I know that a Korean War mod is being worked on. See screenshots here http://combatace.com...-update-thread/ It'll be ready when it's ready. I'm really looking forward to this one. It looks very, very good.
  14. Limping back from a mission, low on fuel and ammo, being chased by some very persistent MIGs, this has saved my bacon more than a few times. Red Crown doesn't always have the assets available to help you though, so don't get to rely on it. And yep - it's frikkin' awesome
  15. I've just tried this in SF2. Great work Retrograde - a vast improvement. Thanks mate
  16. Youn may also consider this http://combatace.com...ael-v21-part-1/ http://combatace.com...ael-v21-part-2/ from the readme 'The Campaign includes IDF, USAF, USMC, USN with Carrier support. Also Egypt, Libya, Syria and 2 Mercenary Aircraft for Campaign play.' I haven't actually had a chance to play this, but it sounds damn good.
  17. Same here. Download is now working fine. Thanks Erik
  18. I'm having similar problems. I can access the forums just fine. I can navigate through the download categories OK, but when I click on a specific download to view the details I get a very similar string of text. Warning: in_array() [function.in-array]: Wrong datatype for second argument in /var/www/vhosts/combatace.com/httpdocs/cache/skin_cache/cacheid_26/skin_downloads.php on line 1075 Warning: in_array() [function.in-array]: Wrong datatype for second argument in /var/www/vhosts/combatace.com/httpdocs/cache/skin_cache/cacheid_26/skin_downloads.php on line 1297 Fatal error: Call to undefined method skin_downloads_26::quickReplyBox() in /var/www/vhosts/combatace.com/httpdocs/cache/skin_cache/cacheid_26/skin_downloads.php on line 1309 This is using either Firefox 3.6 or Internet Explorer 8 on Vista 32.
  19. Newbie Help.

There are 33 pages of downloads in the aircraft section! It will take you a while to trawl through them all looking for modern ones. (I'm the opposite of you. I've just spent ages going through all the downloadable aircraft picking out the '50s and '60s ones!) To get you started F14 A and B http://combatace.com...d-f-14b-tomcat/ F16 Block 10 http://combatace.com...k-10-usaf-nato/ F15 Super Pack http://combatace.com...ck-version-231/ (Requires SFEurope to use the early versions) F18 Super Hornet http://combatace.com...ge-for-sf2-v19/ Eurofighter http://combatace.com...urofighter-sf2/ Mig 31 http://combatace.com...m-foxhound-sf2/ And stick with it. I remember coming from Il2, at first I found it difficult to get into this game. Now, I absolutely love it. Once you get into a decent campaign, it's frikkin' awesome.
  20. It's in ObjectData001. I only just found it myself!
