The Barmy OFFers Club: Have you what it takes to be one of the daft, the touched, the Barmy?
RAF_Louvert replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Beanie lad, we don't provide you with any kit apart from our spiffing BOC badge. You'll need to speak to the Quartermaster about the Sam Browne, and the swagger stick is something you must acquire on your own. I carved mine from the prop of an Eindecker I forced down during one of my very early sorties and it has served me well over the years. But on to the far more important matter of your offer and open tab. While it's a bit too early for an ale or stout it is however the perfect time for a hot cuppa' with a touch of sweet cream and two fingers of Tullamore Dew whilest I read this month old copy of the London Times. Barkeep! . -

GASP! You've lost your BOC badge Shiloh? And then 'borrowed' one from a fellow BOC member!? You know the penalty for such a transgression. No, really, I'm asking, do you know the penalty for such a transgression? I can't remember. Ah well, a good dunking, several rounds of drinks on your tab, and a dozen whacks with the cricket bat should cover it. . -

. Hear, hear, well spoken shredward! OFFers always, officers seldom. Now then, drinks all around on our newest barmy member's tab. Welcome Beanie! Bwoc, bwoc, bwoc! . -
. Yes, I must agr ... wait ... what forum have you been hanging out in Hauksbee? .

. Hold on a mo, my fourth pint'a has brought me to an apostrophe! No need to consider a change of our official club name and for one very good, grammatical sound reason. The devs have seen fit to officially title their latest mega effort, "WINGS: Over Flanders Fields", which means our beloved sim is still OFF, with it's latest incarnation entitled "WINGS". Thank the God of Punctuation for His most glorious colon! . -

. Clever von Baur, very clever. You could also achieve the same results by wearing your cap backwards and mounting the TIR camera on the wall directly behind you. . Olham, sorry to learn your new flying screen is not what you expected. Hopefully you can swap it out for one of higher quality. . -
. Yes, our old camp here is no longer on any official maps so most of the news has to make its way over via the grapevine. .

. Hauksbee, well said Sir, well said! Another cold pint over here for this man, and I add my vote to remain the BOC. That being said ... "Bwoc bwoc bwoc!" Yuppers Robert, sounds like how I'd imagine a dodo might sound. I propose that if we do stay the BOC we none-the-less adopt "Bwoc bwoc bwoc!" as our new call to order. A cold pint for this gentleman as well! As to letting women into the club, we've never had anything against the fairer sex signing up, it's just that none ever have which only adds further proof to the idea they are the smarter of the sexes. . -

. Bakelite goblets? Hmmm, so we'll be hearing (tack ... tack ... tack) during our toasts then, rather than the more robust (clink ... clink ... clink). Not so sure I'm a fan of that. On an unrelated note, any ideas on how best to handle the transition of the club from being a bunch of barmy OFFers to becoming a bunch of barmy WOFFers? T'would be nice to maintain the BOC moniker along with it's long and notorious ... err um ... illustrious heritage. Thoughts? . -

. Robert, very clever with that heavy woolen sweater. I imagine it adds a certain extra body to the beer as well, not to mention what it does to the moths in your closet. . hee hee ... just caught sight of this, Javito. I do remember that one and I have been here too long. . -
. I agree completely WM. I enjoy ROF as a "Quick Combat" sim, but cannot connect to my virtual pilots in campaigns, (despite Pat Wilson's best efforts). OFF seems the total experience when it comes to the campaign and I find myself invested in my pilots almost immediately. I've no doubt that WOFF will be over the top in this regard. .

. Yes Olham, that is one of our traditions that is most popular. And if truth be told, it doesn't much matter whether or not the inductee actually guesses correctly to the identity of the brew he is being immersed into as it seems to take everyone three tries to get it 'right'. . -

. Thank you Vice President Dej for that illuminating elucidation on this aspect of our BOC procedures, for those new members who may not yet be familiar with said procedures. I often found myself in a similar attitude whilest updating our roster at the regular meetings which explains my rather glaring oversight. Robert, you are a BOC member in questionable standing to be sure so no fears there, other than those generated by being a BOC member in questionable standing which is a fear we all share and one that only severs to bind us closer together. The official roster has been updated and a round of "Contact (tink ... tink ... tink) Clear!" is now expected of all club members present. Contact (tink ... tink ... tink) Clear! . Slarti, as I recall we only ever intentionally did that to one club member; you. The resulting brouhaha made it painfully obvious, (as did my split lip), that such action was not a good idea no matter how funny we thought it would be. . -

. Ah, a new victim ... err umm ... member. As we have a nomination and a second, (and a third), and since it only takes agreement from two of the three founding members to bring in said new victim, sorry, member, I heartily agree and welcome our latest Barmy OFFer to the fold. FenrisWlf, you are now a member in questionable standing, (as are we all), of the BOC. Your bar tab has been started and drinks all around are indeed on you Sir! . -

. Javito, your described system should have no trouble pushing WOFF to the max. Wayfarer, you are going to have a bit of a struggle I fear with that 9600GT, but fingers crossed. Original WWI US Tunic and Cap Belonging to 185th Aero Squadron Sergeant
RAF_Louvert posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Greetings All, As I mentioned in rjw's thread referencing Harold Hartney and his autobiography, I have just acquired a wonderful Great War tunic and cap belonging to an unknown sergeant of the 185th Aero Squadron. For those who don't know, the 185th was the very first night pursuit squadron in the US Air Service and flew Camels out of Rembercourt during the last month of the war. Harold Hartney wanted to experience night flying and joined the squadron to learn all he could about it and in the process accounted for the only victory, (though unconfirmed), for the 185th during it's short stay at the front; a Gotha on the night of October 22. Here are a few photos: There are telltale signs of a pair of overseas chevrons having been sewn onto the lower left sleeve which makes sense as this squadron was overseas for about 15 months before it was demobilized in June of 1919. There are also indications something was attached above the left breast pocket, likely a victory ribbon. If I can locate nice original examples of these two items I will refit them to the tunic. A thing of beauty is a joy forever. . -

. Olham, thanks Sir. Whether these items find me or I find them I'm just glad we met. Thanks as well Crossbones, and the red chevron was worn to indicate the individual had been 'mustered out' of active military service. . -
. Beautiful work Dej. My personal preference is the 'grainy' one you've done though the second could easily pass as professionally rendered poster art. Hauksbee, an OFF, (and soon WOFF), calendar is a great idea. .
