. Well, actually, you could troll for them from your DVa Conrad. They'll just have to be very, very fast fish to hit the bait. . -

. Hmmm, must be something that can be tweaked to get you past those triangles. What are your sliders set at Siggi? Also, what exactly are the specs on your CPU, mobo, RAM, and vid card? . -
. Oh, these pictures make me feel right at home here in Minnie-Snow-Ta. We were supposed to get a total of 10" of new snow starting yesterday afternoon, but as is often the case W-man was wrong. I just went out and checked and there is 13" of fresh fall already and it's still snowing and blowing to beat the band with another 6" to 8" still on the way, (revised forecast from the same accurate W-man). I am running out of places to pile it up and my extra vehicle which sits next to the garage, (also a Cadillac Bandy, '76 Coupe DeVille to be precise), is now nothing more than a very large white lump. But, as you have so rightly pointed out, this just means more stick time in OFF. And, I have a snowmobile if I run low on needed supplies and refreshments. .

. I am quite sure those were planes built by members of the Dawn Patrol group, who are very heavy into the N11 and N17 kits and have all the needed jigs and parts sources to put them together at very affordable prices. So, given that, it would make sense to do an SS D.I from an existing, affordable N17 build. . -

. Very cool! That would be an event to go to. Also, if I recall, this link was posted a few weeks back in this forum in another thread, though I can't remember where. But then again I could just be having another senior moment. . -

. Olham, not really sure Sir on specific airfields, but if you start a new pilot and look through the 1915 jastas you should find several that are based at the far southern region of the Alsace. Once you do, sign up and go on a cook's tour southeast from your home field and enjoy the views. Also, it is a real challenge to fight with those early war kites down in those deep valleys. . -
. Ras, if I may quote Ulysses Everett Mcgill, "Once again we find ourselves in agreement." Fly on, you brave virtual aviators, fly on. .

. Plenty of snow and ice here in the midwest as well, another six inches fell last night and we have four more on the way today, with wind of course. Olham, I did exactly that yesterday morning. Closed the shades in my computer room so as not to see the white stuff, started a campaign with 88 RFC flying Brisfits along the coast, moved the date ahead until I got out of the rain, and flew in sunny weather up and down the coast of Belgium for hours shooting down Alb DV's and Pfalz DIII's. At one point I landed on the beach and just sat and looked at the scenery. As to my favorite base to fly from; any of those way down at the far south end of the Alsace. It's absolutely B-E-A-U-tiful there. Cheers! Lou . -

. I'd have thought that too Siggi, but I know with my system what finally made them go away was cranking up the RAM. I have a 512mb vid card which, according to those in the know, is a bit small on the memory side. With my CPU OC'd to 3.95 and running a 64bit OS, I still found that the only way to elude the dreaded jaggies was to set my 8gigs of 800 memory to 890 and push the voltage up to 2.1. Once I had done that the triangles were gone, so I assume my system simply could not fill in the screen areas quickly enough until I ramped up the memory. But as I noted earlier, every system is different. BTW, what boxes do you have ticked in the config overrides and such? That can make a difference as well. . -

. Every system is different Siggi, so we won't all have the same results I imagine. As to saving the profile, you don't need to as it seems nHancer will remember your settings and override the stock nVidia CP, at least it does for me. About those blue jaggies; I solved that by cranking up the speed of my memory sticks a touch. What are you running for these Siggi, and do you have an OC utility in your system? With my Asus mobo I have their very sweet little OC control panel that allows me to tweak to my heart's content, and I was able to lose the triangles by turning up the speed and voltage on my memory sticks from 800/1.8 to 890/2.1, and they vanished, (the triangles, not my memory sticks). . -
. TKS Olham, but I must make one correction. When I noted "a flight of scouts swooped in and strafed the field", I meant to say "target" as I don't recall ever reading about an incident where a group of scouts attacked an enemy airfield. That's not to say it didn't happen, but it would have been a waste of resources. Also, I probably should not have used the term "scouts" either as this denotes a single-seater doing that task, i.e. scouting. Many single-seaters were used in ground attack roles, but they would not have been referred to as scouts in that context. Alright, I'm done correcting myself now...carry on. BTW, good advice here for you Ironhat from our veteran flyers, and as you can see a mix of opinions. I myself don't tend to engage in the scrambles if there is a flight of enemy single-seaters diving in on the field just as I begin. As has been noted, it is not very realistic so your response need not be either. Now, I will take off and fight if its incoming bombers, but with the single-seaters I usually jump out of my kite and dive into the nearest shelter for a smoke whilest they clear the area, then I head over to the pub for a pinta'. Cheers! Lou

. All part of the "Fog of War" Ironhat. As to the early warning our RL counterparts had, such was not the case on every ocassion, at least not in the books and personal accounts I've read. While there were plenty of times when folks on the ground did know they had incoming EA, there were also plenty of times when they did not. Their "early warning" during those times was when the first bombs came whistling down on them, or when a flight of scouts swooped in and strafed the field. Keep in mind it was common practice for bombers to glide in at very high altitude with the engines throttled down so they would not be heard as they made their approach. If there was cloud cover and/or it was dawn or dusk, (or dark of night for that matter), it was not uncommon at all for EA to surprise their target. BTW, if I haven't already said so Ironhat, "Welcome to BHaH!" Great to have you with us Sir. Cheers! Lou

And mainly what you will need to remember about flying your Nieuport 11 over Verdun is where you left your last will and testament and to be sure to set it out on your pillow before you go flying. That way it will be easier for your CO to find when you don't return. Cheers! Lou .

. Roger that WM. I had the same thing happen with the nVidia settings when I was using the stock control panel and reinstalled OFF several months ago. I also noticed that I had to redo all my CFS3/OFF config settings from the defaults after updating the nVidia drivers. . -
Setting Up and Using Magneto "Blip" Switches in OFF
RAF_Louvert replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Thanks for the reply and info Bletchley. It certainly is an interesting, confusing, and contested subject. I know many years ago I watched a restored/replica Sopwith Camel with the Clerget flying and it was quite evident from the sound that the pilot was blipping at least one of the ignition switches on and off to control speed. As I recall you could cut out about half the cylinders by blipping one switch, and all the cylinders by blipping both. But I may be in error about that. I assume he was also fiddling with fuel mixture at the same time so as not to load up the engine with raw petrol. . -
. Akmatov, I'll take a stab at trying to answer your question. As our resident diplomat has already noted, there are no downloadable aircraft for OFF that will work in the SP campaign side of the sim, per se. The planes you make note of are available to download and use in custom missions and in the MP venue, along with such items as the Zeppelin and Short seaplane, (both of which I believe are from Phase I: uncleal can, and will, correct me if I am in error on this point). Also, if memory serves, you can fly any of these planes as well, but the cockpits have not been modeled for them so I am not sure what you actually see there when flying. BTW, welcome to the BHaH skies Akmatov! Cheers! Lou

. Wow Tamper, that's sweet! British_eh, I picked up another 5 to 7 FPS which is very nice, but it is the fact that the shimmer is now gone that I am most pleased with, along with smoother tracking and such. Hope you have as much good luck with it as I have. Cheers! Lou . -
Setting Up and Using Magneto "Blip" Switches in OFF
RAF_Louvert replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Fortiesboy, I've been flying OFF with a throttle blip switch as you describe ever since I loaded the sim. But the mag blip is a bit different in that it gives you a far quicker response than throttle. That was one of the points I was making in my first post, that it is this quicker response which makes the difference is some of the maneuvers. You should give it a try, because if you like the throttle blip you are really going to like the mag blip. Cheers! Lou! . -

. BTW, here is the quote from Flt. Commander W.G. McMinnies 1918 book, "Practical Flying: Complete Course of Flying Instructions", which I posted in the thread I mentioned earlier concerning the practice of cutting the engine. This is a short excerpt from the Commander's recap at the end of the book that illustrates the point, (and the practice is mentioned repeatedly throughout the 200+ pages of this text): Cheers! Setting Up and Using Magneto "Blip" Switches in OFF
RAF_Louvert replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. I agree Bandy, this would be a good addition to the OFF settings. Also, as far as killing the engine due to mags being shut off, while it would not cause it to kill for that reason, it could cause the engine to flood out as raw fuel and oil loaded up the cylinders. This happened far too often in RL to pilots who neglected to lean out the fuel mixture when running with the mags off for too long a time, at which point all they could do was shut off fuel, go into a long glide to get the prop windmilling well, then fire up the mags to clear out the cylinders...and hope it restarted afterwards. . -

Flying for the other side.
RAF_Louvert replied to Flyby PC's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Over the years I have tended more often than not towards the Brits, and I attribute that to the fact that on Christmas about 1962 my parents gave my brother and I each a WWI model airplane kit. Scott got MvR's DR1 and I got Roy Brown's Camel. However, I have flown for all the air services in the sims, and my OFF preference as of late has been to wing with the French. I would fly with the Belgians if they were fully represented in the sim, because I too have an affinity for the underdog. Cheers! Lou . -

. Winder and Tamper, my pleasure Sirs. Winder, good to know someone else has been using this in OFF for a while with great results. Tamper, here are my current nHancer settings: On the Enhancements Tab: Anti-Aliasing check "Combined" and "8xS" 1x2 SS + 4x MS check "Enhance in-game AA setting", "Gamma correction" and "Multi-" Anisotropic Filtering check "8x" Vertical Sync check "Application" and "Force Open GL Triple-Buffer" Ambient Occlusion set at "00000000: Not compatible" and do not check the box. On the Optimizations Tab: Texture filtering check "High Performance" Trilinear optimization check "On" Aniso. sample optimization check "Off" Negative LOD Bias check "Clamp" Adjust LOD Bias set at "0.000" Force DXT3 (Open GL) check "Off" Prerender Limit set at "1" Power management mode check "Adaptive" On the Compatibility Tab: Set Anti-Aliasing compatibility, Anti-Aliasing compatibility DX10, and Direct3D 9 compatibility at "00000000: general compatibility" Force mip maps check "Bilinear" High Dynamic Range (HDR) check "Enable" Dynamic Tiling set at "1" CPU Multi Core support check "Multi core" I initially had AA and Anisotropic settings at 16x but saw absolutely no difference between that and the current 8x settings. Hope this info is useful. Cheers! Lou .
