  1. Top 5 aircraft for next OFF installment

. "And two hard-boiled eggs." (HONK!) "Make that three hard-boiled eggs." (honk) "And one duck egg." .
  2. Top 5 aircraft for next OFF installment

. And heavy bombers for each side. I would really like to see those in the campaign skies. (and yes WM...you are Sir...but in a good way) .
  3. . uncleal wrote: Actually, in RL, provided they had some alt to work with a WWI pilot could restart his engine by going into a shallow dive allowing the prop to windmill and serving the same purpose as a mechanic pulling it 'round. I have read numeorus times in various flyer's personal accounts of them having to learn to do this in the flight schools before even getting to the front. That being said, I agree with you uncleal...don't kill your engine due to improper fuel/air mixture in the first place. And it does always seem to happen at the worst possible time. .
  4. Top 5 aircraft for next OFF installment

. WM, I was sure your top five were going to be: 1) Sopwith Snipe 2) Sopwith Snipe 3) Sopwith Snipe 4) Sopwith Snipe 5) Sopwith Snipe .
  5. . Final Sunset I took this one during my latest DID mission. It was a rather moving fight as we danced across the darkening skies, above the frozen earth, in the glow of day's end. My brave opponent ultimately shared the same fate as that dying sun, and I gave him a somber salute as I watched him fall. .
  6. OFF screenshots

. Good idea Iti and a very nice skin you have created there, as well as photos. Dej, yours has an almost comic book art quality to it; very cool. .
  7. OFF or RoF? Help the n00b!

. From what I have heard and the brief emails I've traded with them over the last year, von Deutschmark and his team are aiming Canvas Knights almost exclusively at the MP side of things. They want to be able to host the massive multi-player affairs that RB3D used to bring. I wish them all the best of luck with their very large project. .
  8. . A big welcome from me as well Javito. After your cloud adventure you can now say you've had your first initiation into the wonderful world of OFF. As mentioned, it does sound like you need the update, however I still don't recommend flying into large storm clouds even after you have that installed. Now then barkeep, as it is still a bit early for a pint'a I will instead have a large mug of fresh, hot coffee with a bit of cream, and a shot of your best Irish single malt on the side; on Javie's tab of course. Cheers! Lou .
  9. French Air Service Tunic On A Budget

. Greetings All, Thought I would update you folks on my ongoing project. After much searching I have finally secured the following vintage French kepi, for $30.00 US, that I can rework into a proper WWI aviator's chapeau, (I was unpleasantly surprised to learn just how much old WWI kepis sell for when I began the search for this item, and I had no intention of spending well in excess of 70 euros to buy one): This pre-WW2 example, has the correct red lid and knot for the Legion Etrangere, (my pilot's former unit), as well as the gold band and wide soutache. It should be arriving in the next week or so at which point I will revamp it by cutting down the overall height to that seen in many of the Great War kepis. I will also remove the two extra bands of gold soutache so that it will show the rank of a sous-lieutenant, after which I will add the numbers for Escadrille N67 along with the emblem of the Armee de l'Air. And speaking of that, I also found and purchased this lot for another $9.00 US: I will likely be using one of the two badges shown to the lower left as they appear to be the correct vintage. I will post pics of the cap once I have made the alterations. Cheers! Lou .
  10. . Olham, a lot of the Italian groups flew the Hanriot HD.1 which was a better aircraft than the N17, IMHO. And yes, it would be the polite thing to start a new thread and let this one return to it's regularly scheduled screenshots. Now then, as to you shooting me and my Capronis down, well we shall see about that, good Sir. .
  11. . BTW, Jasta 78b gets you way down there, and if you like you can fly as far south as the straits between Corsica and Sardinia. .
  12. . Me too Olham. I would love the chance to lead a squadrillia of Caproni Ca.3 bombers north to wreak havoc on some Hun real estate, (in a kinder, gentler, more politically correct way of course). And WM, you should give it a go Sir. The Italian vino is as fine as the scenery. .
  13. Alternative Shellmusic

. Very nice Creaghorn. Thank you Sir, I have the files loaded up. .
  14. . Olham, from what I've seen flying over that section of the map it all looks good. Only thing is that you have to add the various airfields and installations as it is an "empty" landscape in terms of those items. But it looks great flying over the mountains. You should try it sometime. Assign yourself to one of the southernmost jastas and fly SSE into Italy from there. .
  15. . Olham, I built the "Alpine Mission" and posted it months ago in our downloads section. You get to fly all over the Alps and northern Italy in that one. .
  16. . Here is a beauty of a shot of that Alb Olham is drooling over, (again from the Vintage Aviator gallery): .
  17. . Olham asked in another post about locating WWI artwork and this morning I ran across the following listing at eBay: Lafayette Escadrille Indian Chief When you think about it, given the cost of art these days and the history of this iconic figure, (not to mention this particular example of it), one of these copies is well worth the price being asked, IMHO. The fellow has four available. .
  18. . I figured the same thing about the folks at Vintage Aviator, OvS. And I would love to meet each and every one of them! BTW, here is the link to the full-sized photo of that Tripe, minus the watermark: Vintage Aviator's Black Maria .
  19. . Never ceases to amaze me the amount of superb screenshots created by our OFF flyers. First-rate, CJ. .
  20. OFF or RoF? Help the n00b!

. Outstanding comparative analysis Tamper. Well done. .
  21. OFF or RoF? Help the n00b!

. YES! What they said, only with more of a Clark Gable quality in my voice. Welcome to the virtual skies of WWI Vyrago, hope you will have a long and glorious run with OFF. Also, new pilots buy the drinks. Cheers! Lou .
  22. Fine WW1 aviation art

. Ivan Berryman's work is also very, very good. In fact, WM's picture is one of his. Ivan Berryman Prints .
  23. Pilot's Facemask Pictures

Actually BH, that's not entirely true. All the air services in WWI played around with "talking tubes" in their B/R planes. It was nothing more than a length of rubber tubing with an ear plug fitted to one end. The pilot would pop the ear piece in and his observer could talk via the other end of tubing held in his mouth, (and vice-versa with a second set running the other way). It actually worked fairly well, but was just one more thing in the way when the observer had to act as gunner. Now as to not having enough flares to burn down the squadron office, the trick there is to make several low passes over the building first with your fuel mixture set rich to the point of choking out the engine. After you have doused the roof well with all that unburnt fuel and oil, one flare should light it quite nicely...not that I'd know anything about that mind you. .
  24. Thinking of starting a collection

. I also must echo that sentiment WM. It is time consuming to construct them yourself but you will ultimately enjoy the collection far more. .
  25. . I love that website Olham, and to work in that shop would be my dream job! .
