  1. Yes its stupid cat video time

I have an unmarried, mid-40's, sister-in-law who might have said it ... once. This is still one of my favorite 'cat' videos: http://www.hulu.com/watch/278875 .
  2. Two

. Last night my wife sweetly cooed a request into my ear, so I thought for a moment then softly recited to her how to field strip the M1 Garand. When I'd finished she just stared at me with a look of utter confusion. Silly me, I thought she had said "Tell me something pedantic". .
  3. . WOOO HOOO, WOOO HOOO, WOOO HOOO! .
  4. OT: German Pilot Autobiographies?

. Very glad you are enjoying that book Olham. I think it is one of the best reads from the German perspective. .
  5. New Badges

. Excellent! Many thanks Sir. .
  6. I can't believe it!

. You have one of the good ones Tony, and you are going to love that flight. PT-17 was the very first plane I ever flew in. .
  7. New Badges

. Hey Erik, any chance you could do this one for me: I'm an old Cold War warrior and it'd be nice to wear this now-long-retired badge again. Lou .
  8. We NEED You!

. Erik, while my current work schedule excludes the possibility of EIC, I could do the odd piece now and then if you needed. I have done a fair bit of writing over the years, and when it comes to the hard-hitting journalistic style I can offer the following as some examples of my work: http://combatace.com/topic/66282-the-illustrated-boc-news-july-9-2011/?p=509360 http://combatace.com/topic/66435-the-illustrated-boc-news-july-16-2011/?p=511039 http://combatace.com/topic/66157-the-illustrated-boc-news-july-4-2011/?p=508127 But seriously, I'd be happy to lend what talent I have when time allows. Cheers! Lou .
  9. Summer Update?

. It's like Old Home Week around here, and it's great to see you lot still hanging about. I've been far too busy with work and my flying time has been nearly nil for quite a stretch now. Like Hellshade I am waiting to jump back into OFF until WOFF is out. What little stick time I do get has been over in ROF trying out Pat's Campaign Generator and painting a few planes. While Mr. Wilson's CG is a huge improvement over ROF's beta campaign it still does not compare to OFF's. So who's up for a game of darts and a round of pints over at the Officers' Mess? .
  10. For Olham: A Glimpse at RB3D

. Only three Rickitycrate? I discovered back in my RB3D days that it was a far better value to purchase the Logitech Wingman in the 10-packs. .
  11. For Olham: A Glimpse at RB3D

. I agree with you completely Olham. As nostalgic as the old RB score is, Matt's work in OFF is beyond superior in every way. .
  12. For Olham: A Glimpse at RB3D

. It is indeed one and the same Pat Wilson. He is one of the true veterans of the WWI combat flight sim community! .
  13. For Olham: A Glimpse at RB3D

. Oh the nostalgia of it all: the thousands of hours spent training, flying, and tweaking the sim and my computer; the Voodoo 5500 with 3dfx and a whopping 64mb of RAM; the Hell's Angels Super Patch, the Western Front Patch, and Pat's Campaign Generator; SWWISA and WoV; the countless online MMP tournaments and victories and defeats ... and arguments. Seems like a lifetime ago now, but oh the good times. .
  14. Dear oh Dear... We Need WOFF

. I agree about the move to the other forums being detrimental to OFF/WOFF and said so right from the get-go, (I was hoping to be proved wrong, but...). While we all continue to wait, (and wait and wait and wait), for the much anticipated release we should just start sharing whatever we wish to about life, the universe, and everything. I've always enjoyed the company of you lot whether discussing our favorite sim or anything else so lets keep things going around camp by opening the bar, running a tab, (on Pol and Winder and the rest of the devs of course), and let the jaw jacking continue in earnest. Perhaps a lively discussion about the current financial/political state of the world. Or better yet, religion: Who's right? It is, of course, the Methodists. Barkeep! Another stout and two fingers of Tullamore Dew parked neatly next to it if you please. Lou .
  15. . Do you recall the BOC News headline story from 9 July 2011? Could it be?! http://combatace.com/topic/66282-the-illustrated-boc-news-july-9-2011/?p=509360 .
  16. . MupWasp48, there were two other issues published way back when. http://combatace.com/topic/66157-the-illustrated-boc-news-july-4-2011/?p=508127 http://combatace.com/topic/66435-the-illustrated-boc-news-july-16-2011/?p=511039 Enjoy! Lou .
  17. Aircraft Nicknames

. Apparently my contributions are within reproach and hardly appreciated. .
  18. Aircraft Nicknames

. Let's not forget the Airco DH2, lovingly referred to by novice pilots as "The Spinning Incinerator". Also "The Flying Razor", better known as the Fokker DVIII. .
  19. . Greetings All, On eBay there is currently a listing for the massive work by Durkota, Darcey, and Kulikov, "The Imperial Russian Air Service: Famous Pilots and AIrcraft of World War I". This is an absolute must have for anyone interested in this theatre of the Great Air War. Three days left on the listing and no bids as of yet, and a starting price of only $15.50 US dollars, (and $4.00 shipping in the US which I can't imagine will cover the actual shipping cost of this tome). This outstanding volume originally sold for over a C-note when it was first published in 1995. Here is the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Imperial-Russian-Air-Service-Famous-Pilots-And-Aircraft-Of-World-War-I-/310683093269?pt=US_Nonfiction_Book&hash=item485627c915#ht_188wt_1141 Happy bidding and good luck to any of you wanting to claim this definitive work for their personal library. Cheers! Lou .
  20. . HEE HAW! And on my favorite OFF kite to boot. Well done Robert. . HHGTTG is still some of the best humor out there. I particularly like all the fiddly bits round the edges. .
  21. . I have this book as well PR and can't recommend it enough. An outstanding reference source, and if you keep it by your bed you can use it to cold-cock any would-be intruders. Swung properly it would likely break their neck. .
  22. Need help with graphics

. Lothar, I'd be glad to help if I can. Send me a list of the buttons you need and the sizes they need to be I may be able to knock them together for you on Sunday. Let me know the particulars and I'll see what I can come up with for you. Cheers! Lou .
  23. OT: German Pilot Autobiographies?

. Hi ya Olham, good to see you around as well Sir. Actually J356 is semi-autobiographical with a fair amount of literary license thrown in for good measure. Still not a bad little read though. . . Another one to look for is Otto Fuchs' book "War Flyer" which was recently translated again and published as "Flying Fox". This new work now includes commentary and historic investigation by Adam Wait who did the most recent translation. .
  24. OT: German Pilot Autobiographies?

. Hi ya Soppy old man. Just breezing through and saw your post. The two Olham mentioned are both excellent reads, and here are a few more titles for you to hunt for: "An Aviator's Field-Book", Oswald Boelcke, English Translation "Double-Decker C.666", Haupt Heydemarck, English Translation "Flying Section 17", Haupt Heydemarck, English Translation "War Flying in Macedonia", Haupt Heydemarck, English Translation "Jagdstaffel 356", M.E. Kahnert, English Translation "Stepchild Pilot", Joseph Doerflinger There are others, but this should get you started at least. Cheers! Lou .
