  1. TrackIR profiles

. I still use Olham's TIR profile with one minor change: I added just a bit more dead zone to the X and Y axes. Very nice. .
  2. Back from leave

. Thanks Olham, the original artwork is from a French advertising card printed shortly before WWI. I love the stance of the three French Army officers and you can just imagine what they are thinking as they look upon the shape of things to come. .
  3. Back from leave

. I tramped around Europe quite a bit back in the mid-1970s. Never been to Asia or India though. And those two towns I mentioned in NZ are of particular interest as that is where The Vintage Aviator have their workshops and aerodrome, respectively. .
  4. Back from leave

. Ooooooo, a yearlong walkabout. I want to do one of those. Perhaps in New Zealand, around Wellington and Masterton would be quite nice I think. .
  5. . OK, that right there, THAT was funny. .
  6. Holy Brisfit!

. Ah yes, Nurse Cratchett. She's no fun at all but her looks do motivate you to recover quickly. The Brisfit is a phenominal bus and one I love to fly and fight in, and equally hate to go up against. For those who may not have seen it, here is a vid I did sometime back in my OFF/MAW set-up: a Brisfit and two Albs having a dance above the deserts of Egypt: Man, it was hot that day. .
  7. Back from leave

. Life is good Paul, very good. Now, if I could just retire early it would be grand. .
  8. . Shiloh, the correct term is 'flight extenders', not diapers. .
  9. Albert Ball is angry with me

. No matter how many times I've run across an ace in this sim I still find it a white knuckle experience and am simply glad when I survive the encounter, and I too am glad they hang around until it is historically correct for them to shuffle off this mortal coil, (virtually speaking). .
  10. . I am actually doing an upgrade of my current flying box this weekend, assuming the new mobo, CPU, RAM, and second video card are all here by then. Got a super deal on another GTX 460 SC and am going to go with an SLI set-up. After the changes my system will look like this: CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core CPU Fan: Arctic Super Cooler Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16gb (4 x 4gb) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Mobo: ASUS Sabertooth P67 Hard Drive: 2 Western Digital 640 GB Caviar Black SATA Opti Drive: LG 22X DVD+/RW Dual Layer SATA Rewrite Video Cards: 2 EVGA GTX 460 SC 1024mb cards in SLI configuration PS: Corsair HX 850 Watt Windows XP Pro 64-bit OS LG 22" flat screen LCD monitor, 1920 x 1080 native resolution Three large case fans, plus the PS, CPU, and card fans Saitek AV8R joystick Saitek Pro Flight rudder pedals Track IR4 with IR5 software Should be a monster, and capable of pushing WOFF to the limits. .
  11. Have I arrived too late?

. Yikes, forgot to put in my order when I said that the new lad buys. I'll have a nice hot coffee with cream, and a shot of Tullamore Dew on the side if you please. .
  12. Horses Don't Fly

. Shiloh, all the sets I currently have online are available here: http://combatace.com/files/category/352-scenery-and-ground-objects/ Enjoy! .
  13. Back from leave

. And another country heard from! Great to see you are still up and about tranquillo, I hope life has been treating you well Sir. .
  14. OFF2 DEVELOPMENT Screenshots

. Pol, I hope you know that each of us truly appreciates all the time and energy you and the rest of the devs put into this outstanding sim. We may get in the odd digs from time-to-time and do a fair amount of moaning about how long it's taking but that's only because we love OFF and want to experience it at the next level. All the best Sir, and a free round for all the devs! .
  15. Horses Don't Fly

. You Gents have mentioned some wonderful titles here and I've read them all with the exception of Kilduff's latest work on Berthold, (and it is on my list). I just recently added several new first editions to my WWI aviation library and am currently reading a beautiful 1920 1st of "An Explorer in the Air Service", which is Lt. Col. Hiram Bingham's memoirs of his time in the US Air Service during the Great War. I have read this work before and for those interested it is available online in my WWI book downloads here at CA as well as at the Internet Archive: http://archive.org/d...inair01binggoog Enjoy! .
  16. . What?! It's possible to become to immersed into this sim? That's just barmy I say! Now excuse me whilst I do a quick pre-flight of my kite and the weather conditions before suiting up and nipping over to the local store for some milk and bread and biscuits, as per my Mrs. shopping list. Too immerse - bah! .
  17. Have I arrived too late?

. Welcome to the OFF virtual skies Scram. While I have not frequented these halls much as of late I still dearly love this sim and I can assure you that you are not too late to the party. I envy you all the thrills and terrors and triumphs and heartbreaks you have ahead of you. You are going to love it - just love it. BTW, new lads buy the drinks. Cheers! Lou .
  18. . So I'm sitting here at an EMS conference in Rochester, Minnesota waiting for the crowds to arrive and thought I'd drop by camp and say "Hello". Looks like you chaps are holding down the fort and continuing to fight the good fight. So then, who's going to spot me to the first drink, eh? Lou .
  19. . Hey Olham, sounds to me like you had far more fun yesterday than I, but I'm home for a day now so that should change. Robert, thanks for the invite Sir, if I am ever up Lindsay way I will take you up on it. Slarti, use the company card to buy drinks? Never, ever, would I do such a thing, and those at the pub who say I have are drunkenly mistaken. .
  20. Anti-Camel-Trick

. Robert, the OFF Camel, (and in fact every sim Camel ever built), is far too forgiving when going left, IMHO. From all actual pilot accounts it was quicker to go 3/4 turn to the right than it was to go a 1/4 turn to the left, as has been mentioned here already. In RL it would not be wise to go left in the Camel unless you had time and alt to spare and were in no danger of being shot at. That being said, your outline of the left turn in the OFF Camel is spot on. .
  21. Anti-Camel-Trick

. Olham, the RL Camel could snap turn 180 degress to the right in little more than it's own length and want to dive in the process if you let it. In your scenario the Alb goes left and dives and that's not a bad idea as he can now get under the Camel and build speed, but that is not going to help him much. The Camel pilot will wait just a moment or two to keep the alt advantage and then is going to snap turn 180 degress right and dive, which puts him right back behind the Alb. Yes, the Alb now has speed and more room to maneuver but it will do him little good if he attempts to come back up to engage the Camel as the Camel is now above him with guns pointed in his general direction. Any move the Alb pilot tries in that situation, other than continuing to dive out of the fight and run away, is going to get him shot to pieces. You suggest that, if the Camel follows, the Alb pilot should continue on into a right turn climb, but at this point in the game the Camel is still above the Alb with plenty of room to follow every move the Alb now makes. Add to that the Alb is now climbing and burning off air speed and playing directly into the Camel's favorite strength, turning right. As I said before, unless the Camel jockey is very green, the Alb is toast. .
  22. Anti-Camel-Trick

. Interesting discussion, and since my name has been mentioned as regards this topic let me jump in. To Olham's originally posted scenario in which an Alb pilot has a Camel after him and the Alb pilot initiates a right-hand diving turn: Assuming the Camel is co-alt with the Alb, or higher, any Camel jockey worth his salt, (to quote RamblingSid), is going to wait a moment for the Alb to lose altitude in the turn and begin to pass beneath the Camel, at which point the Camel is going to go hard right and dive onto the Alb’s tail. One toasted Alb going right down. To the second posted scenario in which the Alb pilot, in the same situation, initiates a left-hand diving turn: Again, the Camel pilot is going to wait a moment for the Alb to give up alt and close the gap and, again, is going to go hard right and dive onto the Alb’s tail. One toasted Alb going left down. Any Camel pilot who would get sucked into a situation where a co-alt or lower Alb, which he is pursuing, suddenly turns the tables to the point where he can get a gun solution on the Camel ... well ... said Camel pilot deserves everything he gets. BTW Hauksbee, nice images! .
  23. . And still they taunt us! When, oh great and powerful Wizards of WOFF ... when? And don't you dare say two weeks or the 33rd of Octembruary! .
  24. . Well Gents, as many of you know last year was the year I finally got serious and brought my weight back down closer to where it should be. When I stepped on the scale January 2nd of 2012 and saw that I was nearly 248 pounds something had to be done. So, with an image of the trim French ace George Guynemer serving as inspiration I took on my 1,200-calories-a-day menu and an exercise program that included calisthenics, isometrics, and a lot of vigorous walking. And, in August last, I hit my goal weight of 186 pounds and maintained it for three months. I then went to see my doctor who was very pleased at my success and was more animated in his congratulations than any doctor I'd ever seen be animated about anything. However, as doctors seem particularly fond of giving with one hand whilst taking with the other, he went on to say that given my age, build, and BMI I should, ideally, be down around 175 or so. Feh ... what do doctors know. I said I would think about it but that I intended to take a respite from all the dieting for the last couple of months of the year, what with the holidays coming up as well as half-a-dozen different family birthdays. So I quit counting calories but did keep up with my exercises and vowed I would step on the scale again January 2nd of 2013. YIKES! 60+ days of parties, rich foods, and winter weather took their toll with a far greater and swifter vengeance than I would have imagined. I knew my pants were starting to feel a bit snug and after New Year's day the scale told me why. Up 21 pounds from where I had been when I visited the doctor! Sooooooooo, it was back to the program. I chose a new inspiration for 2013, British ace Albert Ball, and built a new desktop to honour the young hero and to get myself pumped each day about hitting my new goal of 174 pounds, (I am going to assume doctors do know something). I also made a medal that I add a palm to for each week I lose weight and I hope to see it silly with laurels by the time I am through. I've already shed 12 pounds of the holiday weight and am really stoked about this again. Here's to being the best we all can be! (plain iced tea in those mugs for now Gents) Lou .
