  1. . Yes, you definitely want VSync on, (at least with the nVidia cards), because without it you get that nasty graphics tearing, where it looks like the images are being ripped apart at the edges. Not to be confused with the dreaded white, (or sometimes blue), triangles that can appear if your system can't keep up with the frame filling demands, (back to the speed issue again). .
  2. . I am encouraged to hear the positive reports from others running the GTX 460 with OFF. Thank you TSmoke and Andy73. Andy and Olham, you are correct that CFS3, (and therefore OFF), makes use of Direct3D rather than OpenGL, so that upgrade won't have an affect. Although, I do seem to recall comments in the past from some folks who claim that enabling Triple Buffering does make a difference, so go figure. Herr Prop-Wasche, you might want to consider an upgrade sometime in the future ... maybe. Nbryant, I was also looking hard at a 560Ti 448, but decided I would give the 460 a go at half the price. I should mention that with my current system tweaked up I can usually run sliders at 5-4-4-5-5, (or 5-3-3-5-5 depending on the mood of the computer gods), and have beautiful, smooth performance throughout a mission. Here are my system specs at the moment: CPU: Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0ghz Wolfdale 6mb 1333fsb 45nm with Arctic Cooler, (OC'd to 3.90) Memory: 8gb DDR2 PC2-6400 800mhz, (OC'd to 890 with volts set at 2.1) Mobo: ASUS P5QL Pro Hard Drive: 2 Western Digital 640 GB Caviar Black SATA, (with the OS and OFF installed on 'C' drive, and nearly every other program parked on 'D' drive) Opti Drive: LG 22X DVD+/RW Dual Layer SATA Rewrite Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512mb PS: Corsair HX 850 Watt Windows XP Pro 64-bit OS LG 22" flat screen LCD monitor Three large case fans I have the card speeds on the 9800 bumped up to: core clock 820, shader clock 2040, memory clock 1275, with the fan at 70%. Speed and memory, OFF loves them in that order. .

. Actually, if the issues are being caused by old bits and pieces left in the registry and cache, I strongly recommend installing and running CCleaner. It is an excellent, and free, cache and registry cleaner that will do the job very well. I have been using it for the last few years myself, and running it once a week does wonders, (or after uninstalling old programs and after installing updates). Here is a link to the download at FIle Hippo: CCleaner Latest Download .
  4. . Olham, a good starting point is at the manufacturer's website. They list the specs for most of their cards, current and past. You can also go to the various benchmarking sites and look at their reviews. Just Google the card model you are interested in along with the word 'specs' and you should find all the info you desire. .
  5. . Thanks RugbyFan, Olham, and Carrick. I'll be sure and let you know when I have it installed and tweaked. Olham, here are some of the pertinent differences between the GTX 460 SC and my current card: ................................................. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 SC ................. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 9800+ CUDA Cores ............................................. 336 .......................................................... 128 Memory Config ....................................... 1024 mb ................................................... 512 mb Memory Bandwidth ............................... 97.2 gb/sec ............................................ 70.4 gb/sec Memory Clock ....................................... 4050 mhz ............................................... 1100 mhz Graphics Clock ....................................... 867 mhz ................................................. 738 mhz Shader Clock ........................................ 1734 mhz ............................................... 1836 mhz APIs ..................................................... DirectX 11 ................................................ DirectX 10 ........................................................... OpenGL 4.2 ............................................. OpenGL 2.1 Anti-aliasing ............................................ 32x ........................................................... 16x Quite a jump in performance and memory, both of which OFF will appreciate, as will I. .
  6. Did Werner Voss have a brother?

. Oh, I can believe it Sir. Also, I wanted to add, that the photo Olham posted is actually of Werner and his two brothers, which is why they look like they might be related. .
  7. Did Werner Voss have a brother?

. He had two brothers, Olham: Max and Otto. Not sure what the story is on either one of them. .
  8. TrackIR goes strange...still

. Well that is odd Hauksbee. Not sure where to steer you on this one. Your new shortcut is pointing to the copied TrackIR folder on your 'J' drive, correct? And you renamed the original TrackIR folder on your 'C' drive so that Windows can no longer find it, and deleted any shortcuts on your desktop pointing to it, correct? .
  9. TrackIR goes strange...still

. Oh yes, Hauksbee, I am using the hat clip, (sorry about that). However, even with the Clip Pro the pattern you are showing is incorrect. It should form a triangle that looks like this: I think you need to adjust your clip as the pattern you have appears inverted and more linear than triangular, and I'll bet this is confusing TrackIR when the mood is right, (or wrong, depending on how you look at it). .
  10. TrackIR goes strange...still

. Hauksbee, a while back I posted about installing TrackIR onto another drive. Just pop over to this link: A Tip For Track IR, If You Have Multiple Hard Drives As to your image showing the light point display, they should form a triangle that is centered on the crosshair, like this: .
  11. . Ah, reading "Flying Section 17" I see. Excellent book Olham. .
  12. . Oh my Lord! I have visited the Smithsonian website countless times in the course of doing research and I have never found this. Thank you Dej for pointing us towards this treasure. I have downloaded the PDF version into my own library and looked through the first several pages. While my French is beyond poor, the reading still gave me chills. This is it! Thenault's own daily log of events in the Escadrille Américaine, written as it was happening. To see all those names we know so well and to know they were penned at the time of their exploits. It brought a tear to my eye...seriously. .
  13. OT..At last I'm (semi) content with my Rig

. Yes, but be careful Hauksbee. I overshot when I tried it and ended up at the release of P5 which, as fate would have it, turns out to be the selfsame time machine. I wound up in a godforsaken random cycle time loop that I have yet to sort through. The cycle can repeat every few seconds, minutes, or years, with no rhyme nor reason to it whatsoever. Just when I think I might have it figured out it flips back and starts all ... Yes, but be careful Hauksbee. I wound up in a godforsaken random cycle time loop that I have yet to sort through. The cycle can repeat every few seconds, minutes, or years, with no rhyme nor reason to it whatsoever. Just when I think I might have it figured out it flips back and starts all over again. Talk about your déjà vu ! .
  14. . Thanks for the update on this excellent website and it's recent additions, Olham. .
  15. Calling Widowmaker...

. Also, here's a little secret for those who really appreciate the photos over at the Vintage Aviator and might like to have one or more to use as a screensaver and/or wallpaper. Open a photo gallery on their website then right click on a particular thumbnail and copy it's address from the 'Properties' window. For example, the Snipe photo in Dej's link is: "http://thevintageaviator.co.nz/files/images/sopwith-snipe/thumbnail/sopwith-snipe.thumbnail.jpg" (without the quotes). Paste this into the address bar of your browser and before you click it get rid of the 'thumbnail' tags. The above example would become this: "http://thevintageaviator.co.nz/files/images/sopwith-snipe/sopwith-snipe.jpg" (again, without the quotes). Click on that link and watch what happens. You're welcome. .
  16. Grandad's RFC tech manual.

. YES! New Zealand here we come! .
  17. Grandad's RFC tech manual.

. Dej, you'll want to call +64 49093100, ask for Gene or Mika. One of them will know exactly who to point you to. Or just stop by Kilbirne, Wellington, New Zealand and ask them in person. .
  18. Grandad's RFC tech manual.

. Tap gently though as those 0's can distort quiet easily. You might need a HEX wrench too, but don't get ANCI if it takes a while to get everything just so. .
  19. OT..At last I'm (semi) content with my Rig

. She is a beauty isn't she? And yes to all of the above. Also, you can be back before any lunch you like, (it is a time machine after all). As to the Cretaceous Period: been there, done that. It goes out with a bang BTW, really spectacular and a 'must see' in my book. You'll also want to slip ahead to star date 41636.9 and observe the escalation of hostilities between the Federation and the Romulans along the Neutral Zone, it's really something to watch. Trust me Hauksbee, it never ends. .
  20. . This AM, as I was making my weekly perusal of the latest book listings on eBay, I once again hit gold. A 1929 English edition, (possibly a 1st), of Erich Remarque's classic, 'All Quiet on the Western Front', in the original, (albeit somewhat tatty), dust jacket. Now, while 1929 editions of this novel are relatively easy to come by due to the vast number printed, to find one in an original dust jacket in any condition is quite rare. And, when you do find one, they can command some serious money. But there I was, sipping my coffee and enjoying my search, when said book pops up with a 'Buy It Now' price of $9.99! I had to look twice to be sure I was reading it right, and once I was certain of what I was seeing I hit the buy button just as fast as I could click the mouse. Here is a photo of the item I am now anxiously awaiting to arrive: Sweet! Another fine book for my WWI library. Lou .
  21. OT..At last I'm (semi) content with my Rig

. Yes, that's true Hauksbee. But who among us will actually be able to afford his own time machine? .
  22. Grandad's RFC tech manual.

. But you will know how to square up and trim the little beastie. .
  23. OT..At last I'm (semi) content with my Rig

. Great new, WM! Enjoy your rig and your new LARGE monitor Sir. .
  24. OT: 2012 Is The Year I Do It

. Yes, but it is 100% pure, premium sawdust. Mickey D's only uses the best. They say so in their ads so it must be true. .
  25. OT: War or gaming fun?

. Oh, I don't agree with that at all Siggi. I want to hunt down and execute every crooked, low-life, smarmy-faced politician, banker, and lawyer I can find, in the public squares at high noon, but I believe that is a normal, healthy attitude. Our environment creating a psychological culture that dictates our reactions and responses to stimuli? BAH! Poppycock! Kill 'em all I say ... first against the wall when the revolution comes, each and every one of 'em ... bring back the guillotine ... perfectly normal, sound, and rational ideas. Reaction to stimuli ... pfffff. .
