  1. Fateful Morn IV

. Personally Dej, I think it WAS deliberate, perhaps just not consciously so. Britisheh, visually the latern is the focal point of the entire piece. Notice how the rest of the scene is cast in an early dawn glow; a cool, almost dreamlike illumination, with shadows and dark silhouettes hiding much of the details. But then, juxtaposed to that, is the light of the latern; not a warm, inviting light, but an intense, almost harsh blaze, demanding you look to where it has stripped away the darkness. Notice too where the sun is rising on the horizion, directly behind the nose of Mick's plane; almost, (but not quite), mimicking the blaze of the latern. The plane is quite literally bracketed by flames. Consciously intentional or not on Dej's part, that is a pretty potent image of the soon-to-be fate of Major Mannock, and the latern is the key to that image. Just my opinion of course, art being subjective and all. .
  2. Fokker E.III wing section...

. Very cool Hauksbee. The cross bracing you mention is actually webbing that is stretched tight between the wing ribs. I believe this may have been something that was done because the E.III was a wing warper. .
  3. Fateful Morn IV

. Another evocative work Dej. Very, very well done Sir. I like many things about it, but in particular the armourer's latern, serving as a ghostly foreboding of Mick's horrendous end. A poignant and sadly fitting focal point of the work, I think. .
  4. . hee hee hee ... I laugh just thinking about Inspector Clouseau. .
  5. . OK, now you're just being mean Olham. By the way, do you 'ave a leesense for thawt minkee? .

  11. . I want to go to New Zealand! .
  12. . CW3SF, you probably won't want my opinion because I would buy another Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. I have tried numeorus sticks over the years and still find this one the best for WWI flying. Like Gaw, I did not notice a lot of difference between FF and non-FF sticks, but Uncleal has always recommended going with FF. Von Baur, you're a man after my own heart, although your throttle quadrant is a bit more hi-tech than mine. Cheers! Lou .
  13. Thoroughly OT! But please help

. Oh that's an easy one to deal with WM. Si just needs to enter every conceivable relevant word in his home page's metatag, then ask us lot to do a Google search three times a day for the services he offers and click on his website when we find it in the listings. We could drive him up into the top rankings within a month. .
  14. Thoroughly OT! But please help

. It's all about advertising and having an online presence these days Si, so I recommend setting up your own new venture website and pitching your services there. .
  15. Thoroughly OT! But please help

. All the best of luck with your endeavour Si. I wish I had some nice current computer bits I could send along to you but everything I have here is quite out of date. I do offer you my full moral support and all the positive chi I can channel your way, for what that may be worth in the greater cosmic scheme. .
  16. . Well, most of that stuff I think I do have around here somewhere. However, you must have found your way back to your own closet on that last one Carrick, I know you and Nurse Diesel had a little thing a while back during one of your hospital stays. .
  17. Happy thanksgiving Yanks!

. We all love you to WM; ta for remembering our holiday here across the pond. And "Obrigado" to you Von Paulus for your kind wishes as well. A safe and happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Count your blessings folks, and remember everything you have to be thankful for. .
  18. . Dej, immediately after I posted that I regretted it as I knew someone would call me on it. Although ... I do like my leather uncommon fresh. .
  19. . hee hee ... you guys are funny. And I just wish my closet were that neat, (and I mean that in every sense of the word 'neat'). .

  24. Research Question

. Sorry Soppy, I am not aware of any electronic versions of either of these classic works, unless you feel like paying seven quid apiece from Kindle. I have McCudden's 'Five Years in the Royal Flying Corps' (i.e. 'Flying Fury'), on my own shelves and would be happy to reference it for you, but I don't imagine that would aid you much. I don't have Mannock's personal diary, (yet), but I do have Oughton's wonderful book, 'Ace With One Eye', which again I could reference for you. Wish I could be of more help Sir. .
