French Air Service Documents
RAF_Louvert replied to lederhosen's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Led, I've not found much in the way of good images of French items apart from the pilot ID certificates. The logbooks and AAR's that I have seen though are more or less just like those of the other flying services, except they're in French. . -
The Illustrated BOC News, July 16, 2011
RAF_Louvert replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Slarti, you should pop over to the BOC thread and post your qualifications: The Barmy OFFers Club You'll be a shoe in. . -
. Welcome back, Schlissefahrt! I don't really have much to add to all the helpful comments already posted here, other than to say that returning OFF flyers buy the drinks! Cheers! Lou .

Attacking airfields mission question
RAF_Louvert replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Actually, all you have to do to get full credit for an airfield attack is to 'kill' just one of the soldiers on the field who's popping away at you with his rifle. That being said, I normally go for a plane or two on the ground myself. . -
New James Dietz Masterpiece
RAF_Louvert replied to elephant's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Beautiful paintings, as is the norm from Mr. Dietz. Thanks for sharing, Elephant. Jarhead, a great painting there too that you were an integral part of. Thank you for that information Sir and for your loyal military service over the years. . -
RNAS/RFC - transfers between ?
RAF_Louvert replied to TaillyHo's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Quite right Dej. The only transfers I am aware of between the two services were aircraft. When the RNAS received the latest and best machines, their old ones would be transferred to RFC squadrons, and despite them being hand-me-downs they were gladly accepted. . -
. I'm not so sure Flyby, maybe he just the fortunate type. Though tempting fate is seldom a good idea, so maybe he should fly a few cook's tours of his AO for a while. .

OT Strange happenings at the Lake!
RAF_Louvert replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. WM, that's the sort of thing that makes one wonder just how the universe really works. I have had similar experiences over the years, and in fact live a 125-year-old farm house that has provided more than just a few such experiences. There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in our philosophy. . -

RAF_Louvert replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Don't forget the wheel spat toss, Bowden cable fencing, and the ever-popular 'Cleverest Use of a Magneto in the Club Bar' competition. Also, Dej, your animated sig is OUTSTANDING! Contact (tink... tink... tink...) Clear! . -

RAF_Louvert replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. It warms me ol' heart to know you folks are enjoying the BOC News. I don't believe it is worthy of a sticky though, but thank you for the high praise. WM, I will send you a PM about those snaps. Wayfarer, you do realize that becoming excited about a mention in our lunatic rag puts you well on the way to becoming a member of the BOC. Perhaps you should jump over to that thread and give us your other qualifications. . -
. My pleasure Olham, and I'll take you up on the offer of a virtual brew. Zum Wohl! .
-
. Thank you for the additional information Plug-nickel, very helpful Sir. Widowmaker, I cannot say for certain that your system will respond the way mine did, but for the price of another memory stick or two it might well be worth a shot. Here are my system specifications, just to keep everything in context: CPU: Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0ghz Wolfdale 6mb 1333fsb 45nm with Arctic Cooler Memory: 8gb DDR2 PC2-6400 800mhz Mobo: ASUS P5QL Pro Hard Drive: a pair of Western Digital 640 GB Caviar Black SATA with paging file moved to second drive Opti Drive: LG 22X DVD+/RW Dual Layer SATA Rewrite Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512mb PS: Diablo 900 Watt Windows XP Pro 64-bit OS LG W2240T 21.5" flat screen LCD monitor, set at 1920 x 1082 32 bit HQ CPU is OC'd to 3.80 and memory is OC'd to 890, with a mild OC of the vid card as well. I can run OFF with the sliders at 5-4-4-5-5 and keep a solid 45 to 60 FPS with no white jaggies of any kind. .

. hee, hee, hee ... Jarhead, that looks like a shirt I wore when I was about eight. I must have it! .
-
. Wingnut Wings is a fantastic source of information, I have visited their site many times. Thanks for sharing, Olham. .
-
. Shiloh, thank you for the report on Libby's work. I've read a few excerpts from it but have not snagged a copy to enjoy cover-to-cover yet. But it is on my list. And speaking of books by German flyers translated into English, don't forget about Haupt Heydemarck. 'Double Decker C.666' is a very good personal account of a portion of his time in service, as is 'War Flying in Macedonia'. He also wrote 'Flying Section 17' which I have yet to read myself. .
-
. Glad you are back in the virtual skies Wayfarer. Sounds like a few more tweaks and you'll be good as new Sir. .

A Campaign Scramble video using HPWS Ultimate Damage Model
RAF_Louvert replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Another excellent video HS and as Shiloh noted, quite the fight. Also Shiloh, I agree, it would be great if a flyer could land and reload and go back into the fight. Perhaps in P4, unless it really is all smoke and mirrors. . -
. Well, I can tell you from my own experience that doing nothing more than switching from XP Pro 32 to XP Pro 64 and going to 8GB of RAM gave OFF a very large performance boost on my system. FPS nearly doubled, and I was able to push the sliders to 5-4-4-5-5 with everything staying nice and smooth. So there is something about the 64-bit OS and more RAM that is affecting OFF. .
-
. Not quite true Xclusiv8 and Widowmaker. What a 64-bit OS does is allow your system to use and quickly read up to 8GB of RAM. So by installing all 8GB of said RAM, and tweaking your Windows page file, (or disabling it entirely), you will indeed see a very noticable performance increase when running 32-bit sims such as OFF. .

A Beauty sleeping in the Dust
RAF_Louvert replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. It is easier to fly an Eindecker from Mulhouse to Nancy and back in a blizzard, with no in-sim map, than it is to navigate your way around an IKEA. The layout of those stores is clearly someone's idea of a cruel, cruel joke. But back to the main topic: I say we stop at Krakow on our way to New Zealand. . . -
. Welcome to the OFF forums OneoftheLost. As a stated fan of WWI combat flight sims you are really going to enjoy Over Flanders Fields. I agree with my cohorts here, Track IR honestly is a must-have for this sim, and you can pick up used IR4 systems on eBay for around $40, sometimes less. I run IR4 and use the IR5 software with it and it works great. To your query about changing your stick responses in game: if by this you are asking can you set up your JS to better suit the OFF flying and fighting requirements, the answer is yes; if however you mean can you change your JS settings while actually flying, the answer is no. BTW, new lads buy the drinks, and as it is still early here I will simply have another nice hot cuppa' with a lump of sugar, thank you very much. Cheers! Lou .

OT- replica Imperial Russian medals
RAF_Louvert replied to gordohk's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Gordohk, I've had no luck sorting out that last image for you Sir. Just can't seem to find a good match for it. Too bad you don't have a more detailed picture, but ah well, c'est la vie. Again, a fine project you've undertaken there Sir, and all the best bringing it to completion. . -
. Glad to see folks are getting their BOC badges figured out in their sig blocks. As has been noted above, the forum software is not the most user friendly when it comes to this sort of thing. .
-
. Lewie, if you really want to crank up your OFF performance, get a copy of XP Pro 64-bit. That OS is beyond fast, has no hinkyness what-so-ever, and is cheap to snag on eBay and other places. I have been running it for the past couple of years and it rocks. .
