  1. tractor vs pusher heat

. Rugbyfan1972 wrote: Quite right Rugbyfan. It is mentioned in several sources, one being Christopher Cole's "McCudden VC". In this book he notes that James had a hole cut in the engine bulkhead and then fitted it with a shutter. This allowed him to open it so that heat from the engine could enter the cockpit. Not sure how effective it was, but it had to be better than nothing at all. .
  2. Orden im deutschen Kaiserreich

    . Very neat, Olham. .
  3. Made Ace today

. Elephant wrote: Apologies Elephant, you actually want to copy and paste the medals whose names you want to change so that the original is still there for the sim to recognize. Then you rename the new ones. Also you will need to change the medal names in your pilot dossier file in the "pilots" folder to match the new medal names in the "medals" folder you are wanting to have shown. And, you can add new medal images to the "medals" folder and then switch those for ones already awarded to you as well, (just make sure your new medal image is the same size as the stock ones in the sim). I did this for my current pilot Paul Blum when he was awarded the Goldenes Militär-Verdienstkreuz. .
  4. Made Ace today

. Yuppers, I've done the same thing myself Elephant, though I used images from another source. You need only go into the "medals" folder and change the name of the image to have it read correctly in the sim display. .
  5. . Thanks for sharing the link Lewie. I haven't seen this series in many years, and it is one of the best from the BBC. BTW, if I haven't already said so, welcome to the OFF skies Sir. New lads buy the drinks! Cheers! Lou . And Olham, get ready for the knock on your door. "Open up Herr Olham! This is Inspector Iben Watchennewe from YouTube! We know you're in there! Come out peacefully and no one needs to get hurt." .
  6. tractor vs pusher heat

, To a freezing man even a warm thought is welcomed. .
  7. Pursuing Goals

. Wayfarer, I will add my agreement to these comments. My own OFF experiences also support the idea that completing missions and making it home in one piece brings promotions in a more timely fashion. And very good on you Sir for doing so well in the Quirks. A round will be waiting for you at the pub upon your next visit. Now as to ladies in forthcoming versions of OFF? I believe P5 may be wishful thinking on Herr Olham's part. More likely not until P6 or P7. You know how long it takes women to get ready for anything. .
  8. . I stop by the Doodie Room before every flight, especially if it's going to be a long recon. Oh...wait...you said Duty Room...yes, I stop by there before every flight as well. .
  9. Made Ace today

. What did the German gas bag say to the top American balloon buster in 1918? "Luke...Luke...I am your fodder." ...hee hee hee... But seriously Wodin, well done on your newfound status Sir. Fresh aces buy the drinks! .
  10. Need a favour if possible.

. Well that is odd Wodin and Elephant. I do seem to recall someone else noting this problem some time ago, but I do not remember what the ultimate solution was. Creaghorn may be on to something about a third-party mod causing the issue. I can say from my own experience that there is a fair amount of venting that will show up from bullets zipping through your kite when you suddenly find yourself somewhere you shouldn't. .
  11. OFF's Haunting theme

. That is great news Matt. I will also be looking forward to hearing your new scores. What you did for P3 is stellar! .
  12. . Very nice! And IL2 still has the best water animation in the business. .
  13. Knowledge Base Forum

. I agree Pips, the KB forum truly is a wealth of information. And funny you should mention the Bristol's altitude compensator and Bletchley's comments on it. A new discussion about this just began again over at The Aerodrome and I mentioned one of Bletchley's outstanding outline on the subject: Altitude Compensator Cheers! Lou .
  14. OT -- 1913 Harley Davidson

. Very neat! I love old bikes, but unfortunately they don't feel the same way about me. We've come to an understanding over the years: I don't try to ride them and they in turn don't try to kill me. That old HD reminds me of one a friend of mine bought in the mid-1960's at an auction. They were selling off a lot of a dozen or so WD's from the Korean War, still crated up for overseas shipping. He got one cheap and we dragged it home and literally spent the summer cleaning all the cosmoline off of and out of the damned beast. If you are not familiar with what cosmoline is, imagine your motorcycle being sealed in a block of putrid brown wax for 15 years. I will say though that the bike was perfect and ran like new once we finally got it cleaned and tuned up. .
  15. Another Format :(

. ...hee, hee, hee...you guys are a chuckle. Instead of TeaTimer I now run CoffeeCalculator. A perfect cup every time, and it blocks all that unwanted spam and malware too: Yet another fine product from Ronco, the same folks who brought you KrumpetKeeper, DonutDunker, and the Popiel Pocket Fisherman. .
  16. . I will give these new drivers a go next week when I get back from the EMS conference and trade fair, (which I will be heading north for in a few hours). I'll be curious to see what improvements they might give my flying kit. Thanks for the heads-up HS. .
  17. Defrag before flying

. Many thanks Tamper for that information and advice. I was not aware that the defrag operation was so physically taxing on the HD's. I will revise my maitenance schedule accordingly. The start to another good day...I've already learned something new. .
  18. . Wish I could help you on this one Olham. Neat emblem though, and it should be done up and added to our OFF skins....hint, hint .
  19. Another Format :(

. I had a BSOD scare myself this morning! Turned out that Spybot TeaTimer had updated itself and was causing a software conflict with the OS. Unistalled the whole affair and reinstalled without TeaTimer and all is well again. I wish they could all be that easy. .
  20. Never seen that before!

. Well that's another OFF first for me! This sim just keeps amazing us all. .
  21. Defrag before flying

. I defrag the HD's once a week, and I actually run it through twice back-to-back. Does wonders for keeping that "new computer" smell. .
  22. . Greetings All, I purchased this old WWI item to use as paperweight on the desk in my flying room, (for the princely sum of 99 cents), and was wondering who among you can figure out what it is. I already know, but I'm curious how obvious the item's original purpose is to others. It's a little under 2" in diameter and is solid brass. So who knows or has a guess? Cheers! Lou .
  23. . DonL, I was waiting for someone to ask that question, seeing as how this item would have been found at the Eastern Front. I purchased it from a fellow in Riga, Latvia, and while it was only 99 cents for the relic itself, mailing it to the US was another $10.00. Still a bargain, IMHO. Olham, I am sure many. many similar fuses are available from the Western Front, but they won't be near as stylish as the Russian version. And I'm all about style. .
  24. . Very good Herr Olham, you've got it right out of the gate! To be precise, it is the time delay fuse for a Russian 3" shrapnel round from the WWI Eastern Front: And I am considering starting up the next Great War quiz once my first-of-the-year conferences are out of the way, which should be in about six weeks. .
  25. Escadrille Lafayette Website

. Yuppers, that's a good one. Been there to do research numerous times in the past. Thanks Olham. .
