The Barmy OFFers Club: Have you what it takes to be one of the daft, the touched, the Barmy?
RAF_Louvert replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Outstanding! Another victim, err ummm, member. Welcome to the BOC DukeIronHand, you are clearly qualified to be counted among the barmy Sir. And since I've come late to the party ... BARKEEP! Three pints right here for yours truly, and make them one pale ale, one brown ale, and one stout. . -
. Greetings Fellow WOFF'ers, Now that our long awaited sim has arrived I decided it was high time for me to start a project I've had on the back burner for a good long while. I have always wanted to give mapping a go despite the inherent issues with the old CFS3 engine, (or maybe because of them, being the glutton for punishment that I am). So early yesterday morning I devised a course of action, brewed a very large pot of strong coffee, climbed into my flight gear, and took to the WOFF skies over Verdun. I began by setting up my FRAPS to snap a photo every ten seconds when I hit the hot key. Then I set up a quick scenario in WOFF flying a BIFF, (as it is very steady and loves the altitude). I picked winter with no snow cover, turned the clock to high noon, choose 'Clear Sky' in the weather options, set wind to 'off', made sure the petrol was full and the guns were empty, said a prayer, and took off. I went to 8x time acceleration and climbed to 20,000 feet, turned to the north and switched on the camera. From this point on it was simply a matter of maintaining steady flight as I worked my way to the west, flying first north, then south, then north, then south ... you get the idea. After 20 minutes of this I decided to see how it all was working out so I landed my bus and headed to the darkroom. Some times pure dumb luck is in one's favour and this was one of those occasions. Photo spacing was ideal and despite the 'fish eye' distortion that CFS3 is famous for, assembling the photos to create a full map of the area went far easier than I imagined it would, (still tedious mind you, but relatively easy). After I finished up putting together the first batch of photos, I went back up and did it all again, this time working my way to the east, and again the results were outstanding. Assembled the second batch of photos and now have a section of the WOFF front around Verdun that is about 30 miles from east to west and 50 miles from north to south. I now have the task of creating a map from my handiwork. Here is a small image showing the assembled photos: The full-sized image is gigantic and even in a JPEG is around 50 megabytes. The final map will not be nearly so large, but I kept the photos full-size to work from so that I will be able to place the needed details on the final map. I'll keep you all posted as things progress further. Going to find the eye drops now and add something more than cream to my coffee. Cheers! Lou .

. Thanks for the words of encouragement Gents. Yes, it is a rather massive undertaking but it is going well. And just as a teaser and to give you an idea of where I am heading with this: The whole point of this project for me is to create a "paper" map that anyone can use to navigate with, (if they so wish), thus taking the immersion level just that much further in this wonderful sim. .

Ok, so I fancy the Nurse

. She must be a comely and agreeable thing, Widowmaker. I have yet to be injured which seems odd given a number of my landings. Dead, yes, but not injured. . -

. Great action shots there Robert, thanks for sharing. I have to post this one I just captured whilest flying Robert La Salle's most recent sortie. Sunset over No Man's Land near Vignenlles les Hattonchatel, 3 February 1916: It's going to be very hard to beat WOFF when it comes to pure atmosphere and 'feel'. . -
Surprise at landing - what a debut flight
RAF_Louvert replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Glad to see you are now in the WOFF skies Olham, it is an amazing new sim. elephant, I agree, very realistic. My first virtual pilot bought the farm just this morning after little more than a week at the virtual front. Javito, you must be chomping at the bit by now. . -
. I must say that so far my older system is running WOFF very well. With sliders on 5-3-4-5-5 I am seeing wonderfully smooth performance with the both the sim and TrackIR. And I haven't even gotten deep into tweaking any settings yet. .

. Luckily the drool guard was on my laptop when I began viewing that link. Thanks for sharing Widowmaker, and I most certainly would like to get my hands on any or all of those items. . -
OT- adding a picture to signature
RAF_Louvert replied to tranquillo's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. tranquillo, is the image you are wanting to use parked in the CA files somewhere? The issue seems to be related to that. If you park the image somewhere else and link to it then it appears to work as it should. HTH. . -
. I think they look nice ... very nice. .

. Someone has been busy. Thanks for sharing socrate. .

. Glad you were able to get it all sorted out Tamper. While it was unfortunate that you had to take a rather tortured route to get here the upside of your ordeal is that there is now a lot of good info on the subject in this thread that others can look to. .

. Widowmaker, glad you enjoyed it, even though this may be the first issue you were not mentioned in. Pol, it would be an honour to the editor and staff of the Illustrated BOC News if it were added to the WOFF website. Perhaps in the 'Reviews" section. . -
Tamper, I use the Mad Catz Saitek Profiler and it works very, very well. You can create specific profiles for your pedals and JS for each sim, and you can quickly turn them on and off as needed. Here is the link to the Mad Catz / Saitek website: http://pcperipherals.saitek.com/down/downloads.php Enjoy! Lou .

. Beanie, you are more than welcome. Human Drone, glad you enjoyed the read. Matt, The Onion you say? Hmmmm, perhaps I'll have to send them my résumé. Now then, on your acceptance speech, remember to thank your mother, your friends, God, and your sponsor, though not necessarily in that order. CaptSopwith, you are too kind Sir, and now I'll need to ask Santa for a new cap. A very Merry Christmas to you and yours as well. Robert, thank you, but most certainly you should be dealing with WOFF right now before all else. Priorities man, priorities! Shiloh, thank you as well Sir. Barmy as hell is just what I do. . -
. Widowmaker, I thought you'd treat your lady better than that after waiting so long for her. tsk tsk Truth be told, I was flying the Snipe earlier this AM and ended up making her look quite similar to yours Sir. . .
-
. Gents, you need only to go into your Saitek profiler and set the dead zone on the toe brakes as wide as possible. That's what I did when I got the same pedals several years ago and it has worked just fine that way for me. Another trick to using these is to wear socks when flying and rest your heels on the plates under the pedals. Gives you much firmer control as you slide your feet fore and aft that way than with them fully planted on the pedals themselves. .

Emergency landing....but...
RAF_Louvert replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. I like the randon engine failures, it adds just that much more immersion to the whole affair. And I've already met one of the new fence lines myself, and while it didn't kill me it certainly dented my pride as well as my kite. . -

. Soppy, old man, it is never too late for a Guinness. Mmmmmm ... extra stout. However, as I must remain clear for morning patrol it will have to be a hot cup of extra stout coffee at the mo. . -
. I agree WM. In fact, I think it's a bargain. Can't wait to get home tonight, load it up, and see just how amazing it is. . .

. Thanks gents, glad you're all enjoying it. Herr Prop-Wasche, inactivity is not cause for loss of your membership in the BOC so no worries there. In fact, your concern that your inactivity may have cost you your standing in our less-than-illustrious group only proves just how qualified you are still to be here. Barmy then, now, and always. . -
. Well I can take a hint. I am very pleased with my current system which I upgraded to an SLI set-up at the beginning of this year, (due to finding a super deal on a brand new old stock EVGA GTX 460 SC that was an identical match to the one I already had). Here are the specs: CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (4.2GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core CPU Fan: Arctic Super Cooler Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16gb (4 x 4gb) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Mobo: ASUS Sabertooth P67 Hard Drives: 2 Western Digital 640 GB Caviar Black SATA Opti Drive: LG 22X DVD+/RW Dual Layer SATA Rewrite Video Cards: 2 EVGA GTX 460 SC 1024mb cards in SLI configuration PS: Corsair HX 850 Watt Windows XP Pro 64-bit OS LG 27" flat screen LCD monitor, 1920 x 1080 native resolution Four large case fans, plus the PS, CPU, mobo, and card fans Saitek AV8R joystick Saitek Pro Flight rudder pedals Track IR4 with IR5 software Sliders are set at 5-4-4-5-5 and OFF runs silky, silky smooth regardless of how much is going on in the air and on the ground. Track IR pans beautifully and there are no white jaggies no matter how fast I look around. I am very anxious to see how WOFF does on this system and I will keep you all posted on that as soon as I get back home and can download the sim and get it set up. Oh the excitement of it all! .
