Le Prieur rockets very unrealistic
RAF_Louvert replied to jamieandnici's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. jamieandnici wrote: You are more than welcome Sir. Pol wrote: Apologies Sir if I indicated my file was anything more than a dialing down of the damage abilities of the LePrieur rocket. I haven't an inkling of the inner mechanics of CFS3 and am sure you devs have done all you can working within it's many limitations. Sgt Stubby, Highly Decorated War Hero
RAF_Louvert replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. There are endless amazing stories about the bravery of our four-legged friends throughout history's wars, and they've done it all out of their affection and loyalty to an inferior species. Lucky for us, animals aren't as judgemental as we humans. Here is a very serendipitous photo of one of our betters in action at the Western Front, circa 1916, (courtesy of the current "The Animals' War" exhibit at the Imperial War Museum North): Amazing. . -

If WW1 was a Bar Fight
RAF_Louvert replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Everyone's happy, except for North Korea who feels it's been completely ignored all along and decides to do something about it by pulling the chair out from under South Korea. At this point things suddenly turn cold between America and Russia and they each think something is up with the other so they start skulking around in the dark corners of the bar to try and see what the other might be up to. They've also decided that it's time to get the baseball bats out again, just to have handy in case the other tries to start something, which leads America and Russia to both go looking for the biggest bats they can find. And no Creaghorn, you are not having deja vu. We have had this same basic thread before: WWI Explained as a Bar Fight ... Part 1 Still funny too. Cheers! Lou . -

This was big fun - flying after RAF_Louvert's map
RAF_Louvert replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. WOOO HOOO! Another convert. Glad you enjoyed the experience Olham, flying by "paper" map gives another very deep immersion level to this sim. Also, you will find after a time of doing this in the same AO that you will start flying by landmarks more and more, and referring to the map very little, (just like our RL counterparts did back in the day). BTW, for those who might be looking for it, here is the link to the post of the map I put together: Western Front Map Post Enjoy. Cheers! Lou . -
Le Prieur rockets very unrealistic
RAF_Louvert replied to jamieandnici's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Greetings All, Been out on the road for the last week and have a little time this AM to get caught up. I didn't realize the rest of you OFF'ers were still using the OEM rockets. I dialed them down many moons ago and thought this info had been shared with the rest of you; my apologies. If you go into your LePrieur weapons folder, (the path looking something like this: C:\OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\weapons\OFF_LePrieur_rocket ) and replace the XDP file named: OFF_Leprieur_rocket with the following one, (be sure to make a copy of your original before you do this so you can go back to it if you choose to): OFF_Leprieur_rocket.rar You will have a much more realistic WWI rocket, and even eight direct hits on a large hanger won't do much more than punch holes in the canvas and leave some burn marks. Cheers! Lou . -
Outstanding Genth Family Website, Lots of WWI Info and Photos
RAF_Louvert posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Greetings All, I ran across the following website early this morning while I was doing research, and as I don't recall ever seeing the link for it posted here I thought I should share it. Thomas Genth Website Check out the Adolf Genth section and in particular the Beim KG III portion. Thomas Genth has clearly devoted hundreds of hours to this project and it shows. Enjoy. Cheers! Lou -
. Foreigndevil, the only reason you haven't heard complaints from your squadron mates is because they haven't completely emptied your liquor cabinet yet. Once they've drained that and finished dividing up your French postcards and the other personal items you left in your quarters for safekeeping they'll be wanting you to return. You should never trust a locked door to airmen with access to tools, especially durning the rainy months.

Here's One For Dej, (and all other Lanoe Hawker fans)
RAF_Louvert posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. This weekend I ran across a page from "Popular Flying" magazine, February 1935 issue. The scan of the portrait was beautiful but it was distorted, and the original page was heavily stained on the hinge edge and the text was very fuzzy. So I spent an hour or so fixing those issues and relettered the bulk of the text. Enjoy. Cheers! Lou . -
Paul Blum's Story: A BHaH Pilot's Saga
RAF_Louvert replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Many thanks Ras, I am glad to know you are still finding Paul's story enjoyable. Will we be seeing one of yours soon in "Reports From the Front", yes? . -
. Welcome back NS13Jarhead. I can appreciate being busy with family and work and such. Taking time to read a good WWI related book is definitely time well spent and keeps you in the mood. Best of luck in Jasta 11, give my regards to Manfred. .

OT I should be happy
RAF_Louvert replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Quite true OTS. I drive often through the nether regions of the Dakotas and have pulled over on many occasions to take in the quiet and solitude along a deserted stretch of road. It is always a bit unnerving at first to hear nary a human made sound whilst looking out over an endless vista. . -

RAF_Louvert replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Oh that is just OUTSTANDING! Very well done, Dej. You could have had a job a century ago hand tinting B&W photographs. Who knows, maybe you did. . -
. Yuppers, excellent idea Olham, and I've done just that myself a good many times. Makes for great wallpaper to be sure. .

OT I should be happy
RAF_Louvert replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Been there WM. After 20+ years without the house to myself the first time it happened after all the kids moved away and Jane went to care for her mother for a few days I thought I would be thrilled for the silence. But in no time at all I was wanting them to come back. It takes some getting used to, and I've since learned how to take advantage of the situation when it arises without being blue about it. Solitude now and then can be an enjoyable thing too. . -
. Oh yes, family is one of the biggest blessing we have, at least for many of us. And while I do have some alone time now that all the kids have grown and moved on to their own lives, I still much prefer when my wife and I have family visiting. Our middle daughter and her six-year-old daughter live just 10 minutes away, so we get to see them often. Life is grand! .

. I just got caught up on this thread. Olham, sorry to read about your computer OC issues. Sounds like you have it tuned back to stock settings and it is running good for now, yes? In my case I use the Asus OC utility for my mobo and it works very well for cranking up the CPU clock and the mem stick speeds while keeping everyone friendly with each other. .

Paul Blum's Story: A BHaH Pilot's Saga
RAF_Louvert replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Assuming Paul survives until April of 1917 a transfer to the Württembergische Staffel would seem to be inevitable given his status, his local citizenship, and King Wilhelm II's and Queen Charlotte's personal interest in the brave flieger. We shall see what fate has in store. . -

RAF_Louvert replied to MK2's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Beautiful screenies Olham...just beautiful. And what fine weather you're having. Since arriving at Jasta 16 in Dezember of 1916 I've been flying in rain, snow and sleet, when I can fly at all. . -
Back to being British...
RAF_Louvert replied to Slartibartfast's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Oh ye of little Germanic faith! But I do know how you feel about flying for King George V, it took me a while to get comfortable on the eastern side of the mud. Best of luck in the Strutter Slarti, that is still my second favorite plane in the OFF hanger, (Camel of course being the first). . -
Paul Blum's Story: A BHaH Pilot's Saga
RAF_Louvert replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Oh yes, he is with Jasta 16 Olham. The letter to his mother is the first one he has written from his new assignment with that unit. If you noticed the date of the letter is the day following the incident with the two new men. At this point Paul has only been back at the front for about five days, prior to that he had been teaching at the Roland school and touring Germany as a "publicity child" of the Kaiser, (this was all filled in in the 7 December 1916 entry on page 5). . . -

Here's One For Dej, (and all other Lanoe Hawker fans)
RAF_Louvert replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. My pleasure Dej, you are more than welcome Sir. I imagine you are correct about the timing of the photo, and I was puzzled as well about the failure to mention Hawker's DSO. This photo also reminded me of another item that has puzzled me in the past regarding the RFC maternity jacket, and that is the collar brass, (or in this case, the lack of same). I'd have thought official regulations would have required the wearing of collar brass to designate branch of service, yet you only see them about half the time on this article of RFC clothing, while on the general service tunic it is there always. Perhaps they were not required and instead it was left to the wearer's personal preference. . -
OT/Cooling an 8800 GTX
RAF_Louvert replied to Cameljockey's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Uncleal, it's getting to that time of year here in Minnesota where I am actually thankful for the heat the computer pumps into my little flying room, (two windows facing west directly into the brunt of the winter winds, two more facing south that catch that low angle sun that is simply there for ambiance as it has no warmth in it). Cameljockey, thanks for the link to that cooler. Much appreciated. .
