  1. OT Made my day

Congratulations, Mate! History always has a special flavor when it is delivered first hand by one who lived it. All those little nuances you get that are never recorded in books. You are very lucky - WWII vets are becoming a rarity.
  2. I'm on an ABIT IP35-P. Originally, my machine had an IP35-E, but the capacitors ruptured and the mfgr replaced the board for free with an upgrade to the -P model. Of course, that was more than 3 years ago. The PS is the original one. Have no idea what the capacity is. I'd guess it's no more than 500W Video card originally was a 9800GTS, but it burned out about 18 months ago and I replaced it with a cheap "temporary" GT430 with the expectation that I'd upgrade the enire system soon. Still waiting
  3. The only one that has me interested enough to pay full price for was the last one on the list - Starcraft 2: The Heart of the Swarm. The rest will have to wait on the bargain bin.
  4. OT: iPhone Goodness

Hope you're feeling better. As long as these guys aren't your doctors... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lq6dcV9EHJ0
  5. This Sim Never Gets Old

Perhaps "Contact! ...Clear!" would be more appropriate?
  6. Skinning

Rule #3 of "Skin Club" is you don't talk about "Skin Club"
  7. Great drawings. Believe it or not, we still send artists to combat zones to draw pictures. I've worked with several of them. The two most recent that I know are Chief Warrant Officer Mike Fay and Staff Sergeant Kristopher Battles. Here's one of SSgt Battles' portraits of Marines waiting for a mission... And one by CWO Fay, also of Marines waiting, but in a diferent context
  8. Aldis sights

I'm thinking that it was Fred Aldis' generous "donation" to the Ministry of Defense.
  9. What's in Your Local Museum?

I live within 40 miles of both the Smithonian's aircraft museums - Air and Space in downtown DC and the Udvar-Hazy Center at Dulles Airport. But the closest is my Marine Corps Museum in Quantico (about 10-15 minutes from my house). It has four biplanes (Curtiss A-2 Pusher Seaplane, Thomas Morse S4B Scout, Curtiss JN-4 Jenny, and deHavilland DH4) Four fixed wing WW II aircraft (FG-1 and F4U-4 Corsairs, Wildcat, Avenger, Japanese Okha rocket powered Kamikaze) Three Korean War aircraft, one fixed wing, two rotary wing (F9F Panther, and HRS-1 and HO3S helicopters) Three Vientam War aircraft (A4 Skyhawk, UH1 Huey, and half of a CH-46 that you can walk through) One post-Vietnam jet (AV8 Harrier)
  10. OT Skyrim fans

Has anyone downloaded the High-Def pack or the Modmaker's Kit? I don't have the game (yet), but I was just wondering. Once I upgrade my computer in the coming months, I plan on getting the game. But right now, I don't feel like buying a game that I can't play.
  11. Did Werner Voss have a brother?

There's a guy I see driving around my area of northern Virginia in his BMW Z4 sportscar with the license plate number "MAX SNEL". Now that's a name for a racer! Amazing what you can do with only seven characters when you have some creativity.
  12. OT-Imagine one of these....

How about one of these - may not be as fast, but it seems to be very maneuverable. It's supposed to replace the F/A-18 and AV-8 sometime in the future.
  13. OT Question

In the Navy, he'd be an "Old Salt"
  14. Well as long as we're going Star Wars on this thread.... (again, WARNING - Naughty Language)
  15. One of my personal favorites. Make sure to watch it in Hi Def so you don't miss the ending. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImdOewVhoS4&hd=1
  16. Maybe the German soldiers were so awestruck by the Fee that they followed it across No Man's Land and surrendered to it?
  17. Found on the Internet

That 14 bis in the 3rd video is wrong is so many ways. It looks like it's flying backwards, the combo elevator/rudder box moving around and the pilot is flying it standing up.
  18. Now you did it, Olham. I'm going to have to reinstall CFS2 and fly those two airplanes again!
  19. Can we get any more Arcade-y? I guess that's why they dropped the word "Simulator" from the title. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=_sD-7_woL9I
  20. Promotion Idea

As the time approaches for P4 to make it to the market, perhaps a copy could find its way to Andy Mahood at PC Gamer magazine. He recently reveiwed Wings of Power Spitfire add on for FSX, so there should be no reason not to do OFF-P4 for CFS3.
  21. In the Face of Horror

Flyby is absolutely correct. They were an integral part of the combat forces in the Pacific. Here's a great picture of a Marine on Iwo Jima, asleep with his doberman sitting alert by his side. Also, here's a picture of the War Dog Memorial on Guam.
  22. This one cannot be stressed enough. Although not computer related I can provide an example: In the California desert, we were setting up a 5 ton "portable" tower trailer, a 2 ton control station as well as a 1 ton generator to power them both. There was much assembly and prep work to be done to everything, so we broke the job down into three teams. The first set the tower, leveled it, attached all the electronic components, wires etc. The second set up the control station at the base of the tower. In the meantime a third team set the generator on the spill containment barrier, fueled it, oiled it and did a test run to make sure all was ready. Then we got the 2 inch diameter 100 foot long power cable out of a storage box on the trailer and when we tried connect the generator and trailer we found out that the two pieces were about 6 inches too far away from each other!:mega_shok:
  23. OT-Micro$oft "Flight"

JFM, I'm gusssing/hoping that Flight will be much better than the promotional videos let on. Unfortunately, the marketing department is playing to the masses raised on Nintendo & X-Box, not to the tiny fraction of folks who search for realism and immersion. But that is where the money is. I've truly enjoyed many of MS's combat flying games (especially the previously mentioned Crimson Skies), but I've never really caught the bug for the ones without guns. Occupational hazard, I suppose.
  24. OT-Micro$oft "Flight"

It might be a good game. It might be playable on mouse/keyboard, game controller, or HOTAS. It might be scalable to all skill levels. But based on the video alone (which is the first time I even heard of the product), it appears to be designed as arcade flyer. If it's going the arcade route, I'd have been happier with a reboot of the Crimson Skies franchise. However, if it's going to be able to be a serious flight sim, WHERE ARE MY MACHINE GUNS!
  25. OT-Micro$oft "Flight"

I see the confusion. You forgot to put the <sarc> tag in your response.
