Thinking of Buying Over Flanders Field
Cameljockey replied to outfctrl's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Welcome outfctrl, to the OFF Community! The best way I know of to describe the differences between the two is this......... If you're looking for a WWI aircraft simulation, RoF is second to none IMO. But if you're looking for a WWI airwar simulation, OFF BH&H is head and shoulders above all of the rest. As with all my posts, it's just my opinion. YMMV. CJ PS: I do have both sims. -

Newegg is my main source also. Great prices and service. Newegg rocks! -
I've heard them called a lot of things, package shop, package store, liquor store, but most seem to refer to them as the "Red Dot" as most of the liquor stores have red dots on the facade. If you want the "good stuff", well, you'll have to visit the local bootlegger! His wares give new meaning to the term "firewater"! CJ

Open Letter to Forum from OBD software
Cameljockey replied to Winder's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
At the risk of sounding like a cheesy testimonial on an infomercial, I'd like to tell everyone here what OBD and OFF have done for me. Prior to April of '07, I knew nothing, and I mean nothing about what actually makes a computer work, much less how to build one. My brother in law, who is a computer tech support supervisor for Embarq put one together out of spare parts and sent it to us. It was certainly nothing to brag about but it was better than what I had. ECS K7VZA mainboard AMD Athlon 1.2Ghz CPU 256Mb PC133 SDRAM Nvidia GeForce 4 MX440 64Mb 60Gb IDE 133 HD Saitek Cyborg Evo Like I said, nothing to brag about. Anyway, I was online looking for some add ons for RB3D and found an awesome one called "Hells Angels", BTW thanks for that OvS, it's still on the HD. In my search for more info I ran across OFF. I asked myself, "What in the hell is OFF?" As I investigated further I was thinking, "Man, I've got to get this, but how much is it?" Then I found out that it was free for downloading (Phase 2), so I looked at the size of the files and damn near fell out of my chair. Having only a dialup connection at the time it seemed like an insurmountable task, but a task I was more than willing to perform. Well, a little over a month later (and boocoo pissing and moaning from the Missus about the telephone being tied up constantly) I finally finished the download. I was crestfallen when I discovered that my machine wouldn’t run it, even on the lowest settings, so I embarked on a “journey” which has led me to where I am now. It hasn’t been a lone wolf mission by any stretch of the imagination and special thanks to Uncleal and Typhoon, without whose assistance I would not be enjoying this sim at the level that I presently am. The biggest thanks go to Roxanne, the Missus, who has supported me in this and put up with all of the hassles that have come with it. Now, just a smidgeon over two years later, I have OFF BH&H, many, many, new friends, and a computer that I thought I’d never have. Also, I have learned not only how to diagnose and fix most common problems in my PC, but I have also learned how to build my own. I have actually made some $$$ repairing PCs for people. All of this on top of the hundreds and hundreds of hours of enjoyment that I’ve gotten from OFF and it’s incarnations. All in all, my experience with OFF and the OFF community has been a constant win/win situation which I hope continues well into the future. BTW, my specs now…. Abit IN9 32X MAX 680i WiFi Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core 4x 4Gb (4x1Gb) OCZ2P800R22GK DDR2800 EVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB 384-bit GDDR3 Western Digital Caviar Green WD5000AADS 500GB SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive Creative Soundblaster Audigy SE sound card TrackIR 3 Pro with Vector Expansion Microsoft Sidewinder Pro FFB joystick CH Pro Pedals A very heartfelt Thank You to the OFF team and Community Mike Carender aka Cameljockey and the journey continues................................................................. -
Going on Vacation to Washington DC
Cameljockey replied to Barkhorn1x's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
When you go to DC, keep an eye on your wallet, especially around the Capitol. -
You should be smokin' BH&H with that rig. I'm running Core2Duo E8500 3.16Ghz, 4Gb DDR2800, one 8800GTX, and one 7200RPM SATA drive and get between 40 and 60FPS and usually no less than 30fps in a large furball. Sounds like a config problem. If you would like I could pm you my settings and see if it helps. CJ

I believe there are flares in OFF or at least there used to be. The devs said they tried the streamers but they just wouldn't act right so they were left out. Someone correct me if I'm wrong as sometimes my memory escapes me. Too much wine, women, and song in my younger days. CJ -
I like it myself. A lot of them crashed and burned, but a lot of them didn't. They just crashed. It's a sight better than the constant explosion (fireworks and all) every time one hits the terra firma, however, I can remember shooting down a DH2 that tried in vain to land and did a nose-over and slid for a good distance before stopping. Never exploded or even caught fire. Just crashed.

Welcome Hurricane3! To the world Between Heaven and Hell! Just click on the Over Flanders Fields Between Heaven and Hell banner just north of your post and you'll find minimum and recommended system requirements and also the Help/FAQ. Also check out the sticky "OFF General Help Topics" also known as "Uncleal's trail of crumbs", here on the forum. The answers to most questions can be found at either of these locations but if you can't find what you're after, just ask. I'm sure someone will have some kind of answer for you. Enjoy CJ

Flying by the seat of your pants

Those Rx's are okay, but if you really have it bad, nothing beats "Dr. Austin Nichols" and his "Wild Turkey Elixir"! Gobble, Gobble! -
Considering the headgear that the pilots wore it seems to me that wind noise would actually be minimal, like wearing a full coverage motorcycle helmet with a face shield. CJ

I like the CP sound effects in RoF. I've never flown in an open cockpit airplane but I used to ride a 80 CI Harley with straight pipes. About the same effect I reckon. I could hear the engine, but mostly the wind. CJ

(E8500 oc to 4.4GHz, 4GB RAM plus Radeon 4890) I'm running E8500 (stock) 4Gb DDR2800 8800GTX and this is an example of framerates with one plane in the air. It usually runs in the 40-60fps area, even in a large furball. Your rig should run like a cat with it's tail on fire.

When I was in the UK I was partial to Tennent's Lager, you know the one with the pin up girls on the can? Call me uncivilized or even maybe one of the "great unwashed", but you'd have to fight me to get my Budweiser! CJ
