Your best bet would be to get the Trackir (situational awareness is everything) and then find a used "twisty stick" until rudder pedals are affordable. Even new ones are pretty inexpensive. I think WF2 has one for sale for $22 but she lives here in the States. I've got a Saitek Cyborg Evo twisty stick but it would probably cost more to ship it than it's worth. CJ

I use the hardcore DM and 120% realism and really see no problem with it. It forces you to hone your piloting and gunnery skills to a much greater degree and in turn produces more favorable results. With the hardcore DM the aircraft don't come apart so readily unless the rounds fired hit in the right places, such is the case with the unfortunate Albatros in the screenshot. I like it. I don't usually fly the SE5 but am growing quite fond of it. Great gun platform! I just wish there were two Vickers instead of one! CJ

The only thing for me would be a video replay capability, sort of like the Gran Turismo series for PS. That way you can watch the race (or mission) after you've driven (flown) it. If not, no biggie.

competiton delayed again

I'm not concerned about the release date in the least. I would really like to get Rof but that pesky OL requirement still has me saying "NO". If that is the "future" of simming as some say, I'll just have to find another hobby. CJ -

I read over at SimHQ. I stay up to date just in case they decide to do away with the OL requirement. http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topi...tml#Post2744501 CJ -
You can most definitely enlist as a member of the Lafayette Escadrille! I've done it.

Best choice for F/F joystick?

If you can find a Sidewinder like the one I've got with the gameport connector, it's really no problem. Hoops are out. Just get one of these... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16829130001 Only problem is, if you have an Nvidia chipset mobo, it's a no go. Otherwise it works like a champ. CJ -

OT: Der Rote Baron - is there an english version out there?
Cameljockey replied to Balalaika's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Ya talked me into it Unc. I've seen it before but it's been awhile. It'll be here next week. $11.49 US delivered. Not bad. CJ -
Yeah, I monitored that thread too Rabu. Can't remember if I posted or not on that one but I have experienced the pack(gang) mentality at SimHQ, and some of the so-called SimHQ "Lifers" the worst of the bunch. I joined over a year ago and have around 60 or so posts. Judging by the number of posts I have here since March you can tell where I spend most of my time. I like my friends. CJ

It's got a love story ( ) for the wife and some, not a whole lot, of flying sequences. The aerodrome shots are good with all the planes sitting around. Actually it was filmed in English, German subtitles were used after the fact. I just wish the Albatros' in OFF could dive like that without shedding the wings. CJ -
Because breathing the fumes makes you stupid. Like a real dope. CJ

Ya know, I never even thought to look. I just watch the vids and leave. I'll pay more attention next time. CJ

I liked the dog with the inflatable leg! CJ

Yeah, the lack of aircraft sucks too. I predominantly fly German myself regardless of the nik, and I abhor SPADS. IMO they're junk. My favorite bird is the DrI. Unfortunately it was slow and couldn't compete from mid to late 1918. That's where the DVII excelled. It's a SPAD eater. There just weren't enough of them available at the right time to be a factor in the air war. CJ

I see nothing wrong with discussing RoF on this forum. It is a WWI flight sim and that's what we're all into right? I personally would love to fly the sim, but with the almost nonexistent SP side (I'm not an online flier and never have been) it really doesn't appeal to me in that respect. I'll pass for now but am not counting out a purchase in the future, if they expand the sim in ways that are more suitable to me and get rid of the online requirement, which is the biggest bitch that I have with it at this time. How do you like the Razor WF2? CJ
-
Looks good, looks really good. Some may call me silly or paranoid, but as long as the online requirement to play is still in play, they can keep it. I don't like the umbilical cord. Some say I'll be missing out but hey, I never got the chance to see the Beatles live either, but it didn't hurt me. CJ

OT-For all you RL pilots out there
Cameljockey replied to Cameljockey's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I reckon the money that the government's spending has got to come from somewhere. They start by taxing the fun stuff that they reckon we don't need. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Not to mention, kinda pissed off too. I still remember the first time I ever left terra firma, it was in a Cessna 172. I was just a kid of eleven who loved to hang around the grass strip in Texas City, Texas, watching the planes come and go. One of the pilots noticed me watching and asked me if I wanted to go up and I leaped at the chance. I remember it to this day. After we landed I was so excited that I rode my bike home as fast as I could and told my Mom. She was livid! She tore my behind up! She said, "We've always taught you never to talk to strangers and you go and get in an airplane with one!" My butt hurt for a while after that, but I had no regrets. I flew! CJ -

It's the old "you want it, I've got it (even though I'm just going to waste it), and you can't have it syndrome. Like I said, stoopid. -

Right now I'm using Trackir 3 with Vector expansion but if the anointed one sees fit to give my poor old ass some economic stimulus $$$, I might spring for a Trackir 5. Then the Trackir 3 (with Vector expansion) will be available absolutely free to the first person who asks. What the hell, I believe in recycling. CJ -
Just to demonstrate my previous post here are the normal cockpit view and the cockpit view after zooming.

If you want to zoom in on a target, while in the VC just hit [ or ] to zoom in and out. Works just like binoculars. CJ
