  1. I currently have several careers going in BHaH. I would like to add some of the features and upgrades of HiTR but don't want to start over on the careers. If I upgrade to HiTR do I loose my existing career pilots?

I may wait on HiTR - will HiTR be in P4? I would rather buy P4 actually.... is the plan that it upgrades over BHaH and you keep your pilots?

And about P4.... if I could add to the wish list a button that acts like the mallet you use to unjam guns I would like that! Reloads on Lewis guns would be nice to have as well!

    Cheers!

HITR is a worthwhile upgrade to P3 as it not only brings the additional Yank squads but improves on many areas of the sim - its more than just a squadron addon.

Yes you can keep your existing pilots.

P4 - or now OFF2 - there will be no carryover of pilots from P3/HITR its just not possible - OFF2 is changed in so many ways.

I recommend all P3 users to upgrade to HITR.

  2. .

I know our ever-vigilant devs are busy wrapping up P4 so that they can release it in two weeks, and I don't wish to distract them from this Herculean task, but I do have one tiny, little, miniscule, itsy-bitsy request. If it pleases the mighty devs, might I ask that we are allowed some time on the field where all the planes in our flight are started and warmed up before take-off. As it is now, everyone else, (i.e. the AI), is ready to go when we pop onto the field, and for those of us who use the multi-step start process and engage in a pre-flight check it is a bit disconcerting to have the rest of the flight zipping by or chewing at our rudder as we get ready.

Thank you for deigning to consider my puny request, oh great and powerful Wizards of OFF.

  3. Hi

    Some information regarding cloud scale:

    Insane Ring Tweak....Where is this??

"I pulled my cloud scale slider down from 10 to 6 in the configuration utility>texture info page (cloud slider still set to 5 for image quality) and it gained me about 15 to 20 FPS"

I think the scale only effects the dimensions and densities of said clouds....my best damn guess anyway....but the detail quality is still determined by the quality slider at 5, and the budget .xml's settings.

SO...my GPU is still drawing the same gorgeous clouds....just less of them, and less time filling in the detail."

    Cheers

    Hello

Cloud scale only affects the size not the density...

  4. Just to clarify here - VB Error 480 is an indication of insufficient memory - GPU, CPU or virtual.

In your case I would assume you have virtual memory on 'windows management' in which case it was probably scaled back as your HD became full...

Creating space on the HD helped - and restoring windows probably reset the virtual mem to what it was before.

In any event if this occurs again you can set VM to a fixed allocation...always better....say double your Ram capacity..... as a guidleline

  5. As it turns out, the C: drive is nearly full (3.47 Gb remaining out of 139 Gb) but I have two other 500 Gb drives that are virtually empty. (This machine was built by my computer-tech guy when I was doing a lot of 3D modeling/animation which created big files. I'm running 8 Gb of RAM. I'll talk to the computer-tech guy about moving a sizable amount of stuff to the other two drives.

Widowmaker: I'll keep the System Restore as a back-up plan.

I suspect then that therein lies your problem....

  6. It just got worse. Figuring that the 'Reset' buttons would be in Workshop, I found them, and did a Reset for OFF. It seemed to include CFS3 also. I backed out of there, went to Main Menu and selected Quick Combat. OFF objected that there were no pilots. I went to Pilot Dossiers and tried to enlist a British pilot. When it prompted me to select a squadron, I clicked and immediately got my old nemesis, "Run Time Error 408", etc. I tried this three times. Now, I can't get in to OFF at all. Is this re-install time?

The error is typically caused by:

Error is typically caused by a lack of resources (video memory, system memory, virtual memory, etc).

Check your Virtual memory allocation - is your HD full?

  7. Here are our two kids....um....cats I mean.

Spooky is the grey one. Rescued him from a shelter when he was about 2 months old. He seems to think he's a dog. He's always bringing slippers downstairs and presenting them to us as some sort of gift. The other one is Sasha. Bought her from a breeder. She's Balinese, which is basically a Siamese variant with longer fur, a bushier tail and a much softer voice than the traditional Siamese. Although her voice is softer, she uses it at every opportunity. She'll literally carry on a conversation with me that goes on as long as I respond to her, and just like a typical female, she always has to have the last meow.

Both fabulous, intelligent and good natured souls, and both spoiled rotten. Wouldn't trade either of 'em for all the tea in China.

    Absolutely lovely cats!

  8. @Olham

I was disappointed to discover that Herr Prop-Wasche's new FM mod does not address the 'crash landing squadmates' issue. I have been attempting to fly patrols lately a quiet sector (no dogfights) with TAC off and make a real effort to stay with my wingman from waypoint to waypoint. At the end of the sortie my flight-lead always carries us several klicks past our home aerodrome, reverses direction and then makes a standard approach, only to drill into the ground several hundred meters short. Moreover each of my mates follow him in like robots and crash almost at the exact same spot. I of course am able to finish by flying on to a normal landing. I wonder if Bletchley's Active/Quiet Mod files could be edited to adjust the home Aerodrome altitude to allow AI pilots to land without crashing?

I am curious to know if you have heard whether OFF 2 will have a RTB command? And will AI squadmates land without clashing?

OK now, to that last bit of info Winder, and at the risk of repeating myself in this thread ...

This is just SOOOOOOOO much more than I imagined P4 was going to be. You devs are miracle workers ... truly.

    .

    Thanks Lou....

Guys I am not going to reveal any more details at this moment in time - the vid does not reveal the half of it...

But I hope the vid and the info we have shared here thus far demonstrate our commitment to making OFF as realistic as we can.

We have read all the feedback since P3 release - we know of the limitations of P3 and CFS3 - we have it covered as best we can.

In fact Phase 4 was 'cancelled' last year - we are now working on OFF 2.

  10. Ok you guys are waaay too good. But tell me you have put some ballast in those AI crates to efectively simulate fuel/guns/rounds and maybe even be affected by the wind as the player crate is. If you can do that....well....I'll buy 2 copies!

AI are now affected by the same forces as player and now also have same FM and weight structures - there are no AI advantages in P4.

You can set loadouts for all AI craft in your flight individually.

  11. Video looks fantastic., positively oozing with atmosphere.

Have you been able to upgrade the rain effects at all, such as raindrops spattering on your visor instead of the horrible lines you had on the Phase 3 that passed off as rain. (not being funny, but that was basically my only disappointment with Phase 3 by the way!)

Looking forward to buying this nevertheless.

Rain is now hi res - and windscreen effects have been added...

  12. Hi Guys,

Great video, the shear amount of work represented is mind blowing. I will definately be parting with some cash for this one.

To all the guys, thank you for continuing to bring WWI air combat to life, which allows me to place myself (if only sparingly, and from the safety of my study) into the places and situations I have read about in so many books over the last 30 years.

    regards Rob.

Hello Rob - good to see you around.

  13. That sounds like a lot of coding to be done-- tracking all the persons and planes in the squadron and keeping a runny tally. It sounds as though more than ever the manager will be the real heart of the game as the "brains" as it were. I think that is a good thing, myself. More and more you'd have to leave the CFS3 confines to really push things farther and more advanced. I think the manager has the potential to do that.

Even in P3 CFS3 is only used to 'run the mission' as it were....

Now in P4 we have real outcomes from run time code - coutesy of Rex - so even more can be done.

With the integration between manager and run time bettter than ever before because we are now engineering it to what we want, I guess we need to stop seeing the two as separate manager/CFS3...

We just have a great WW1 sim in the making.....
