Two-seater Transport on Railway and Truck
Rickitycrate replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Herr Olham, interesting pics you share. Fits in with the book I am currently reading GERMANY'S FIRST AIR FORCE 1914-1918 by Peter Kilduff. Naturally it covers all fronts and includes information regarding the mobility of some of the units. Some BAO units not only transported the crates, material and aircrews to new airfields but then the railcars served as sleeping cars, dinning cars served as Kasino's and train was a rolling home of sorts. So far I enjoy the book very much. Not the authors fault but I find it somewhat confusing how often the structure of the german airforce changed so often and the long names used. It is easy to see why abbreviations like KEK,Kagohl,Bogohl,Kasta and Jasta were used. The book does help me to understand the designations and roles of the aircraft and crews as reflected in the OFF campaign. You would enjoy the book although it is brief considering the subject matter. It also includes many photo's I've not seen elsewhere. You know we are very fortunate that there are so many photo's and films of this period of history that we find so fascinating. -

I'm very excited for you Simon. A job in these times is hard to get. I hope it is a real blessing for you and your family. Very good news, best wishes. Jim

Question regarding Leutnant uniforms
Rickitycrate replied to Creaghorn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
In my varied readings of Royal Navy Officers during the Age Of Sail and the Napoleanic wars the acquisition of uniforms and such was left up to the individual and his pursestrings. There being better shops from which to acquire your threads. The common sailors also paid for thier clothes out of the meager earnings. The reason many of them wore similar clothes was not due to a uniform as such but that the ships purser bought bolts of fabric and the clothes were made onboard. -
Sometimes I come across things like this and don't take proper note. So here I share this link and wonder amongst our broad bunch of Barmy OFFers if any have seen or perhaps possess a copy. http://filmsdefrance.com/FDF_L_Equipage_1935_rev.html One day I was fartin' 'round the internet and saw a reference to a WWII propaganda film featuring the story of WWI aviation and it's pilot heroes. Wish I had book marked that one...

O. T.) Anybody seen this old film?
Rickitycrate replied to Rickitycrate's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Lou, I wish you well in your search. I hope it will prove not to be a big tease, wild goose chase. The other film is perhaps the 1938 German film "Pour le Mérite" seems to have flight scenes featuring Fokker Dr.I's and DVII's and somewhat based on Udet's story. Prewar Nazi propaganda. I'ld love to see both films. I just finished Udet's book and while it was very interesting I found it was too brief. -
OT: Another Trio of WWI Aviation Books Find Their Way Home
Rickitycrate replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Congrats on the acquisitions Lou. You have a library of dream calibre. My humble shelves just added another copy of Rickenbacker's "Fighting the Flying Circus. Not so collectable as it's from Time Life's Wings Of War series. A nice binding of a reproduction of the original publication. Largish print so a good reading copy. -
Did anyone see UncleAl here recently?

OT: Brutal Oblivion Death Knight battle
Rickitycrate replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hey 33Lima your game reminds me of ZORK. It was fun in it's day. I too look forward to Skyrim and I have a preorder on it. It's the only other sim/game than P4 that I would bother preordering. I am still having a blast with Oblivion. THis time I am playing on a PS3 in 720p HD. It seems like a new experience to me. Good gaming ahead for sure -
P4 - most desirable improvements

That's a wonderful approach to OFF Hellshade. From my experience it is most rewarding to approach the sim in terms of defence/preservation rather than offense. It may well be in keeping with the true motivations of the actual pilots of the day as well. -
P4 - most desirable improvements
Rickitycrate replied to 33LIMA's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
We OFF fliers Have put forth many wish lists for P4 in the past. Many of 33LIMA's very good points have made those lists. This was some time back already. I think we can see many of our wishes present in the "work in progress pics" OBD have shared with us. It has also been stated that there is much more they cannot share at this time but that there is excitement in the team about various developements. I am not against any lists but I kind of have the personal hope that things are progressing toward a release. Our expectations need to be realistic and perhaps somethings will never come to pass. Maybe there will be a P4 add-on or perhaps a P5. We need to remember that OBD does not do things in small measures. A new crate means all new campaigns in historical context for example. We share a dream and apparently have much to look forward to. Expectations are high based on OBD's track record. My quess is, at this time, that what may be desired by OBD is patience and encouragement. If they're excited I'm excited. -

In regards to being Barmy, I wonder if I am alone in the fact that whenever I get my hands on a new WWI book (new to me) I turn to the index and search for all of my paternal/maternal family names? No cigar... so far. -

Rumplers, Aviatiks and Gotha bombers. I look forward to some detailed pics of these crates and more. I suspect we may have a few German variants of the Parasol one day too. -

Sounds good guys. I have a copy but have yet to read it. I look forward to it now. I am currently reading Ernst Udet's autobiography. I did not know he spent a week in jail for cracking-up one of his first crates.
