  1. What do you fly?

Thanks, Olham, I will give Jasta 1 a try--perhaps as a journal of a very young pilot who is so green that he is adopted as the squadron mascot by the more experienced pilots--probably due to the laughs his flying skills give to the other pilots!
  2. Say hello to my little friend!

Congratulations on the birth of your son, Creaghorn. Any news on when you and your wife might start work on your next little "mod?"
  3. Thank you

If I may speak for everyone who has made an additional contribution to OFF, thank you very much, Spitfire.
  4. What do you fly?

I also tend to like the early years. It's just that I'm not very good at actually flying the early-war planes!
  5. What do you fly?

I am currently involved in a campaign in July 1917 with Esc. 152 in Alsace, flying N24's. So far, all I have seen are Albatros varients. It's still exciting, but it would be more interesting if there were some two-seaters around besides the Strutter. I also generally like to fly the mid 1917-1918 planes. I'm too impatient with the under-powered types.
  6. Hmm, $15 isn't too bad--especially when it is loaded with all those articles. Stolen by a WWI fanatic?? Is there no honor anymore?
  7. Configuration override file missing

Hi, just saw your query. I am unaware of any conflicts between JSGME and OFF. Still, OFF occasionaly "hiccups" and seems to lose track of a file or two, including the config overrides file. First, do as BB suggests and see if you can find a copy of the config overrides file. OFF stores two or three copies of several important files in different locations on your computer. The second thing to do is to restart OFF and go to Workshops and reconfigure your graphics settings. Don't worry, you don't have to actually change anything, just click on the graphics config button and then save your current settings and exit. Then see if the game works. The third and last thing to do is to reinstall the game, which should take care of your problem. Finally, I also wrote a batch file program that automatically stores a seperate copy of several important OFF files, including the config overrides file, on the main drive of your computer. When you get OFF running again the way you like it, run my batch file to copy the files so you can easily find them later without having to reinstall OFF. You can get the backup program here: http://combatace.com/files/file/10890-offuserbackupfiles-program/
  8. Cool find, Rabu! How much for ordering from the states? I look forward to hearing your review of the article.
  9. Another Book For My WWI Aviation Library

Wow, these are the reasons that make this community so great! Lou with his WWI prospecting resulting in a real treasure, Olham producing a book with pictures of several other aces, and Shredward offering to include Lou's ace in the next version of OFF! Thanks, guys!
  10. And Aussie machine gunners hiding on the reverse side of a ridge?
  11. REVIEW: Armchairgeneral.com

Thank you, SirMike. Yes, just now I was involved in a dogfight against Jasta 14, with Voss and a few other aces. I was flying an N24 in Alscace. Voss played a good flight leader--if I got him in my sights and was able to squeeze off a few rounds he would dive to the deck, trying to tempt me to go after him and give up my height advantage over his wingmates. For the most part, I was able to resist the temptation, but in the swirling mix, either he or one of his friends got a pretty good shot at me. I thought I was a goner, but they apparently just hit me in the wings. Although I lost some control, I was still able to fly well enough to enable me to escape, even against an elite Jasta. Previously, this usually meant you were easy meat. When I reviewed the mission, it said that when I was hit, there was "a slight effect on controllability." Before 2.2, that often meant your plane was toast. I like it better this way, as it makes both you and the AI less dependent on lucky hits and more on overall skill and quantity of hits.
  12. What would you like to get in P4?

Miscellaneous wishes for P4: 1) Ability to transfer 2) Two week leave 3) Injuries that take longer than just a few days to heal 4) Ambulances and... Little green men!
  13. 1 September

How do you f*** a comma?
  14. Out of Action

Godspeed and a quick recovery, Capt!
  15. OT: Something like S.T.A.L.K.E.R

I played SH3 religously until OFF pahse 3 came out. Haven't touched it since (although I have thought about it). The negative reviews and poor response on the subsim forum have steered me away from SH5.
  16. Watch this space!

Good question, Creaghorn. No, 2.2 is a complete standalone version and should NOT be used at the same time as either 2.0 or 2.1. You can either keep 2.0 or 2.1 and disable them using JSGME, or you can delete them completely and just use 2.2.
  17. REVIEW: Armchairgeneral.com

Dear SirMike and CaptSopwith, I had just composed a fuller answer to your questions, but the stupid computer ate my post! Anyway, the short answer is that there are too many changes to the DM to mention. Basically, it is a complete remake of all of the values in the xdp files for all of the aircraft in OFF. However, because I am a total idiot when it comes to graphics, there are no changes to the size or shape of any of the hitboxes in the sim. Fortunately, that is not too much of a problem in most cases. I think the only place where the hit boxes should be changed is the size of the boxes for the pilot and observer, which I think are currently a little too small. The overall effect of the DM is to make most (but not all) of the aircraft a little harder to destroy, making for longer and more intense dogfights. As others have mentioned, two-seaters are particularly more difficult with the mod than in the stock DM. For a more complete list of the changes in the DM, including updates, please click on the following link: http://combatace.com...pwdm-22-update/ Of course, I will be more than happy to answer any other questions you may have. 18. HPWDM 2.2 update

You both are very welcome! Although it was a LOT of work, I enjoyed putting it all together. I may have one or two more updates ready at some point. In the meantime, let me know if any of you have any questions.
  19. Huricane Earl coming

I am over 1,000 miles inland, but thanks for thinking of anyone who IS in the path of one of these monsters.
  20. What would you like to get in P4?

If OFF succesfully develops a lie detector, then I doubt they would be able to work on flight sims anymore. They would be too busy filling requests by police departments and suspicious wives!
  21. Thank you, Hellshade, for helping the general public "see" more of what BHaH is all about!
  22. REVIEW: Armchairgeneral.com

Those are the same three that I use.
  23. What would you like to get in P4?

I agree, great poll, Olham. I basically agree with Bullethead's post, particularly about the need for more two-seaters. Although I didn't click on combat reports with witnesses names already shown, I would put that as my sixth choice for the last question. ideally, a drop-down list. I admit I am often too lazy to remember the names of all of my squadmates. Maybe if CFS3 did not randomize losses as it currently does in the duty room.
  24. Another Book For My WWI Aviation Library

I just looked it up, and it turns out Hitler was gassed in mid October 1918, so the writing was on the wall, so to speak. Apparently, Hitler was a very good soldier, although considered even then to be somewhat strange by his fellow soldiers. Although decorated several times, he refused leave and never applied for promotion. If still in the front lines at the end of the war, I'm sure he would have been one of the last to have wanted the war to end.
