  1. flameing onion tester section

If this quote is accurate, the danger from flaming onions would appear to be only from a direct hit that would put a 37mm hole in your wing (no blast or fragmentation damage) which would cause the fabric of the aircraft to catch fire and burn away. Eventually, the loss of control surface would cause the aircraft to crash. While I have faith that Stumpjumper will be able to reproduce the visual effect, I bet the limitations of the CFS3 engine will make it very difficult to accurately simulate the damage effect caused by this weapon. OTOH, if Frank Luke is the only recorded victim of this weapon, than maybe just having the visual effect will be enough. It's dangerous enough up there as it is!
  2. Any Suggestions?

Glad we could be of help, ZZ. What setting did you find worked best for you?
  3. Adding New ac?

You want the simple answer? You can't. Only the OFF devs can add flyable planes to BHaH. I suppose you could add non-flyables, but then you would have to figure out how to assign them to squadrons, give them missions, loadouts, etc. However, do not fear. The OFF boys will be adding a plane pack in the (somewhat) near future. It probably won't contain the particular model you are looking for, but it will have several and it won't cost as much as it does to add new planes to the sim whose name cannot be named.
  4. New aircraft and when?

    I buried Pol. :wink
  5. Lawrence of Arabia...

I read somewhere earlier today that they were Tigermoth's, dressed up to look like a 1917 Rumpler CV.
  6. Hows the install of OFF?

I think that most of the newer CFS3 disks are already updated to 3.1 Roger55 should check what version he has first.
  7. 10 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Stump, I sent you a PM about beta testing your flaming onions. Any word yet?
  8. 10 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

I was also waiting to see who might help out. If you still need a volunteer, sign me up, SJ. I'll give it a go.
  9. Musings on the Spad

Welcome to the forum, Roger55. I think you will really like it here. Everyone is very friendly--well, except for that uncleAl fellow before his morning coffee!
  10. Musings on the Spad

I think he may be reacting to Olham's greeting. Roger55--Olham meant no harm or insult to you. He is one of the nicest people on the forum and has never said a cross word to anyone that I can remember. He is not a native English speaker, however. This is usually not a problem for him but he may have unintentionally come across as being confrontational in his post. I am positive he did not mean to be. Olham--In the USA, "So what" usually is meant as a challenge, often followed by a sarcastic comment, as in "So what if you have 25 confirmed claims in only 10 sorties. What realism level are you using--10%?" I think Roger55 thought you were calling him a little wet behind the ears instead of merely welcoming him to the forum and inviting him to tell us where he is from. I understood what you really meant, but maybe Roger55 didn't.
  11. Any Suggestions?

ZZ, If stutters are a problem, you might try experimenting with turning VSync off and on, and setting your frame rates to a maximum setting somewhere in the 30's. You can access the FPS setting here: OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\default and opening the CFS3.xml file with a text editor. Look for the line <Graphics OldAircraftRender="No" MaxFPS="0"/> and change MaxFPS=0 to a different value. Start with 25 or 30 and gradually increase until you notice a slow down in performance.
  12. Forum Theme Complete

We are all at the mercy of (the) Fates! Fortunately, (the) Fates has been very kind to us. Thank you, Fates. Good job!
  13. Hellshades Air Combat Video

Payback! Nicely done avenging your two squad mates. I wonder how you did against the two Camels on your tail at the end, however?
  14. Is this it?

Yes, Fates, I was also too quick on the draw! Thank you for taking a huge chunk out of your weekend to update the forums! I'm sure they will look great once all your tweaking is finished! Cheers!
  15. promotions

Sgt. BuB, as dangerous to his mates as he is to the Germans! His 47 kills (so far), is almost matched by his 12 bar fights, 4 reprimands for verbal abuse of a superior officer (The CO is a bit of a wanker!), 6 reprimands for being late to roll call, and 8 or 9 arrests for being drunk and disorderly! Of course, this tally does not include any of his infamous pranks, for which he is also well-known for. The fact that he has not been busted to private must be on account of the number of his kills (and also perhaps the rumored photos he has of the CO in bed with the regimental commander's mistress)!
  16. Heads up my friends!

Have to admit, not a big fan so far.
  17. dumped back to OFF menu

This is a known issue with scramble missions. For some reason, hitting the map key in a scramble dumps many users back to the OFF manager. No known work around other than don't hit the map key!
  18. Nice, Red-dog. Makes me want to stand up and salute!
  19. MiniPATCH V1.32e is now available!

    Thanks, you bunch of nuts!
  20. P3 Settings Ratings...

I voted no but it doesn't really matter too much to me. I usually fly at about 20-40% realism, but a lot of that is because I choose the medium setting for claims. I agree that removing the ratings will not have much of an effect, because we humans are an ornery lot and are always comparing d*** lengths. So, even if the ratings were removed, people would find something else to use to compare themselves to one another. My only suggestion is to eliminate or substantially lower the rating for the claims procedure. My reasons why are this: in contrast to the other boxes, such as gun jams, wind effects, AI accuracy, stress damage, etc. the claims form has nothing to do with how difficult it is to fly and fight while in the air. Some may argue that the claims form increases realism because it helps simulate the totality of the actual WWI airmen's experience in the air and on the ground, of which filling out paperwork is certainly one aspect. OTOH, there is a LOT of the actual WWI airman's experience on the ground that is NOT represented in the sim. Seems a bit strange to have the only aspect of the airmen's experience on the ground that is represented in the sim make up so much of the realism percentage. My belief is that most people choose the full claims procedure because it helps give them a feeling for the period, not because it makes the game any harder. If it could be proved that filling out paperwork made one a better pilot, then I might be for weighting the claims procedure so heavily. Myself, I have to deal with enough paperwork at work. I don't care to be bothered with it during my free time! In conclusion, I am in favor either of eliminating the claims rating entirely, or turning it down to maybe 10% or so. However, since many people like it, I think the feature itself should be retained. Everything else about ratings should stay the same, IMHO.
  21. Wine thread

In honor of the beer thread and Olham's mention of Germany's wines, I thought I'd start a wine thread and learn a little more about good wines. I'm not much of an expert myself, but I really enjoyed some of the locally produced German white wines when I was over there many, many years ago. About all I remember now is that there are three levels of sweetness allowed in German whites: Kabinett, Spätlese, and Auslese. So, what are some of your favorites? And do you drink a particular countries wines when flying for that side--British and American "wines" excepted?
  22. Fellows, In an effort to make my DM and other 3rd party DMs as easy to use as possible, I have come up with a few files to help manage your xdp and bdp files. These files are particularly helpful if you would like to test an alternative DM but then want to switch back to the stock OBD DM. Even if you use JSGME to manage damage files and other mods, you can use the deletebdps.bat included with DM Utilities to erase bdp files after installing a new DM. CFS3 automatically replaces the bdp files with new ones that match your new xdp files when you next start the game. You can download DM Utilities here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=45877 Have fun!
  23. AX PC is dead.. needs help... NOT GONE!

Newegg is a nice on-line store where I have made several purchases. Fast shipping and no complaints here. They even replaced a MB I thought was bad, no questions asked--turns out it was the memory, not the MB!
  24. Wine thread

Lots of good advice here, guys! Anyone care to break it down a little more by price range? For example: cheap, moderately priced, expensive, premium?
  25. flaming onion version2 clip

As someone named Neo once said, "Whoa!" I do worry about the effect on frame rates, though.
