battle damage to aircraft
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to badgerboy's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Instead of a system restore, do you have your old drivers? If so, uninstall the new ones and then reinstall the old ones. I have several older Nvidea drivers, so I can send them to you if you wish. You might also be able to grab older drivers at the Nvidea web site. -

Two hours for an update? That is some freakin' update! But does your system have beautiful knockers? -
I second the vote for BoBII, although I haven't been able to fly it much since BHaH arrived.

Wow, 2 hours to install the sim that shall not be named? I can think of a few names for a game that takes that long to install! -
battle damage to aircraft
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to badgerboy's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Seeing bullet hits is a function of the xdp file for each aircraft.* More specifically, whether you see a bullet strike on yours or the AI aircraft depends on an interaction between the hit points for the particular component that is hit and the "threshold value" which determines whether a given damage effect will have a chance to be displayed. For example, take the Sopwith Pup since it was mentioned by Bullethead. If you open the xdp file for the Pup (any text editor will do), you will notice a section labeled <DamageBoxes>. Inside this section, you see that each wing in the hardcore DM has a hit point value of 100. Below the damageboxes section is a section called <Systems>. This section contains the threshold values for each damage effect that can occur to every component of each aircraft in the game. You will see sections for the engine, fuselage, fuel tank, wings, tail, etc. Notice that not every component has a bullet strike effect. You will never see a bullet hit in that component. Next, look for the sub-section inside the Systems section named <System ID="left_wing" Name="Left Wing Structure">. Looking in this section, you will see that there are two entries for bullet strikes, named " fx_blt_hit_s." One occurs at threshold level 25 and the other at level 70. These values are percentages. Since the value of the left wing damage box is 100, this means that a bullet hit will potentially be shown if you inflict 25 points of damage to this component of the aircraft and then once again if you inflict a total of 70 points of damage to the wing. Fortiesboy originally pointed out, and I agree with him, that the threshold values for some of the damage effects, including bullet strikes, are set a little too high, and that is why you don't see them a lot in the game. Also, since these are only "thresholds" for displaying damage, you may not see them right away--the display of damage varies a bit. If set too high, you may not see an effect until the component or the entire plane has already been destroyed. Both my and FB's DMs are attempts to try and remedy this situation (as well as a few other minor DM anomalies) a bit. The good news is that OBD will be releasing an updated DM in the next patch. I'm not sure how much the updated DM will address the above issue, but if not, FB and I will probably have our own slant on the problem. *Along with the size and shape of the damage box itself in the .m3d file. -

What a roller coaster ride, CJ! First, I was excited to see I had helped solve your problem, only to be disappointed again! Felt like a kid who has been told he's getting a really cool Christmas present only to find out it's a new Sunday shirt! Oh well. At least we solved part of the problem. If the problem is FFB, I wonder if you need to re-download DX 9.0? -

Sound card issue? Run dxdiagnose.exe and try lowering your hardware sound acceleration. Also, since you put in a new HD, make sure all of your drivers are up to date. -
I haven't tested it out, but I think the waypoint color is the same as "HumanFriendly" color.

Quick question for newbie thread
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to McCarty13's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
I'm not sure myself about the difference between scenery and terrain. Try setting one to one and the other to four and then switching settings to see if you notice any difference. -
Intermediate Damage Model 2.2 Update
Herr Prop-Wasche posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - File Announcements
File Name: Intermediate Damage Model 2.2 Update File Submitter: Herr Prop-Wasche File Submitted: 22 Jul 2009 File Category: Modding Tools and Add-on Software IMPORTANT: This is a recommended update for all users of IDM 2.1. INSTALLATION: Simply right-click the IDM_2_2.zip file and extract to the OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folder. DO NOT unzip the file into the aircraft folder itself! If prompted, simply click "Yes to all" when asked if you wish to replace files. If you later decide to go back to either the normal or hardcore damage models, simply run the appropriate DM program from OBD. Changes in 2.2 Added appropriate bdp files for each aircraft. In certain circumstances in previous versions, the bdp files from other DMs were not being deleted, resulting in the failure of the IDM to work correctly. This update takes care of that problem. Also included a file to automatically remove bdp files from other DMs. Click on "deletebdps.bat" to run this program, if needed. BHaH will automatically recreate the bdp files based upon the currently installed DM the next time you fly. Click here to download this file -

Hitler Parody: Over Flanders Fields
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Launchbury's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I have no problem with the scene being shot in the national cemetary, it's the execution of the scene that I didn't much care for. For all of Spielberg's talents, he has a tendency to the overly saccharine or maudlin at times. I dunno, something about the scene just struck me as a bit emotionally false. OTOH, I didn't feel that way the first time I saw the film. I also had the same reaction as you at the end of the film. Had the same reaction at the end of Glory. Silence and awe at the sacrifices of soldiers past and present. SPR and Glory are two of my favorite war films. -

Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Launchbury's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
The sound effects were what impressed me the most about SPR, especially the beach landing scene at the beginning of the film. Could have done without the opening and closing scenes in the cemetary, however. -
OT--Cheated Death Again
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Bullethead's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I have a friend with a disability who uses hand controls in place of brakes and accelerator. She is only 4' 10" so she sits only about 18 inches from the steering column. I keep telling her to either disable the air bag or sit back farther from the wheel but she never listens to me. But then, she also has a bit of a death wish... -
For me, capping the FPS reduced a significant stuttering problem on my CRT. Don't know what effect it has on LCD's.
-
Roger. If there is anything amiss, I'm sure you will sort it out.
-
Oh, and I was using a Camel when flying against the German balloons, so I had the use of two guns, not one.

Just Arrived, Failing to run
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Havoc04's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
When your 'puter starts up, just after the beep, if you press the delete button* on my machine you can access the motherboard BIOS settings. Once there, there are several tabs or sections which give you access to various MB functions, including PCI Bus or frequency. Mine is normally set at 100, but I had upped it to 105 until OFF started crashing. Setting it back to 100 seemed to help. *You may have to press a different button, likely Alt or Ctrl. On some machines, you have to press one of the function keys. -

What year are you starting? If 1916, try starting your career a few months later or try another squadron. -

Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Havoc04's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
Are you overclocking your CPU or GPU? What is your PCI frequency? I was getting constant crashes until I backed off a bit on my CPU overclock and reset my PCI settings in the BIOS to normal. Still crashes occasionally, but only after long gaming sessions. -
Cure for Stuttering in game
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Stapme's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
Go here: OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\default\ and click on the cfs3.xml file. Look for this line: <Graphics OldAircraftRender="No" MaxFPS="0" /> and change the number from "0" to "40." You may have to experiment with the setting a little, but doing that and setting Vsync from "off" to "on" seemed to make a difference in my setup. -
more german surnames
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Creaghorn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I already added my Germanic surname to the GermanyLastNames file! Added a few French names to the FranceLastNames file, too! Works fine! Now downloading Creaghorn's file. Thanks! -
Pol, please check the vehicle folder. There appears to be 2 folders for German observation balloons (g_obs_balloon and h_obs_balloon) but only one Allied balloon (a_obs_balloon). I am particularly suspicious about the h_obs_balloon, as it is the only h_ entry--no h_balloon_base, h_boxcar etc.
