Intermediate DM 1.6 for BHaH campaign now available
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Herr Prop-Wasche's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
The IDM is intended to be used with normal bullet strength. I can't guarantee good results with bullets set to strong. OTOH, I also noticed in my campaign that wings were getting shot off more than I would like--including my own--so I will have to investigate this further. I may have to increase the strength of the wings in the campaign. It's weird, because the SE5a is one of the aircraft I extensively tested in QC, so there does seem to be some difference between QC and campaign. Thanks for the feedback. -

Also, make sure that IDM 2.1 is installed correctly. Do you see a readme file for 2.1 located in the OFF folder? If not, you may not have got it installed correctly. -

Winston, No, it should not happen every time. I was aiming for the wings to stay on most of the time, so you may have found a glitch. However, you are probably a better shot than I am, so you might be seeing effects that I may have missed. As I said, most of my testing has been in QC. It does seem that the aircraft behave slightly differently in campaign. Either the aircraft are more fragile or the AI are better shots! Incidentally, getting the wings to act like I wanted them to behave was the hardest part about creating this mod. After going back and forth several times on this issue, the last thing I did before uploading the file was to weaken the wings slightly. As an aid to identifying the problem, can you be more specific about the type of damage? Are the wings getting shot off from the root, or from the wing tip? Which planes are you seeing this from? Etc. -

What nationality are you?
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Herr Prop-Wasche's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Fascinating stuff, chaps. My roots, as best can be determined, are Swiss, English and Welsh. Father's side originally from Switzerland, then immigrated to Wales. Married a Welsh lass and eventually immigrated to America in the 1850's. Sadly, either my great-great-great grandfather or his son was killed by Yankees in the Civil War. Mother's side is English. Her family came over sometime before the Revolution. Reputed to be related by marriage to Daniel Boone. My grandfather was the Chief building engineer for NCR corporation and helped oversee the building of a big cash register factory in E. Berlin just before WWII. Mom had a picture of her and a young boy she met while with her father was in Germany. The boy is dressed in his Hitler Youth uniform! -

Not that impressive, I'm afraid. Mainly a lot of slogging around with the files. Still, let me know how you like it! -

IDM_2_1 For Campaign.zip
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Herr Prop-Wasche's topic in WOFF UE/PE - File Announcements
SD, Sadly, the visible damage is tied in with the mod. There are no additional graphics in my mod, as I can't even draw a straight line on the computer! However, I think there is a way to insert new graphics into the damage model. How to do that, however, is beyond my level of incompetence. Actually, I think it would involve creating and naming the new graphic effect, inserting it into the OFF database of visual effects, and then referencing it in the xdp file. Easy, huh? Makes you appreciate the work the OBD guys have put into BHaH. -

Version 2.1 of the IDM for both QC and campaign, is now available for download from the 3rd party mods and download forum! This mod includes a revised damage model, with enhanced damage effects, for ALL of the aircraft currently included in OFF 1.31L. Simply download the IDM_2_1_For Campaign.zip file and unzip to your \OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folder. I would like to thank Pol and OBD software for their help and assistance in the development of this mod. Note: although this mod is intended for use in the full campaign, it has been tested mainly in QC mode. Therefore, please report any problems or strange AI behavior in this thread. Finally, do not fear that my modding of the DM is at an end! I am also contemplating an additional update to the mod which will include a number of slightly different DM's for each aircraft type currently available in OFF. These DM variations would be intended to simulate slight differences in aircraft behavior due to variations in manufacturing, age, maintenance, wear, etc. I don't yet have an ETA for this mod but will keep everyone informed as events warrant. Thank you for using my mod. I hope it adds to your enjoyment of OFF--if indeed, such a thing is possible! -
Damage model question
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to DukeIronHand's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
FB, If Pol and company are unable to make your mod available for download, I would be willing to help you out with the necessary instructions or help so you can make your mod available as a zip file like my IDM. -
That "arcade" opinion HAS to be based on preconceived notions about MS products in general, and CFS3 in particular. No way does this person have first hand experience with OFF. But, what would the internet be without uninformed posting about topics one knows little or nothing about?

Damage model question
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to DukeIronHand's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Well, let's see... First, there are two "official" DMs by OBD. The hardcore DM and the normal DM. Personally, I prefer the hardcore DM over the normal DM. You can pick up either of these DMs at the OBD website. Secondly, there are the alternative DMs that I have created. Intermediate DM 1.6 is currently the most up to date for the campaign. However, I should have a new campaign DM with enhanced damage effects ready soon. Version 2.0 of the IDM with enhanced damage effects is available now, but it is for QC ONLY. Finally, I believe that Fortiesboy is also working on an alternative DM. However, I don't think his is quite ready yet. -
Don't patch the OFF DVD with 1.31L. You need to download and install 1.30 first and then 1.30c before applying 1.31L.

Yep, 1.6 works with the new patch. Here again is the procedure: 1) apply the patch. 2) reapply 1.6 for campaign. 3) Play OFF as usual. If you wish to fly MP, whether using the normal DM or the IDM, simply reset the FOV by pressing the FOV button in workshop. -

I don't know the answer to your question, but maybe it's OFF's way of telling you that you have your realism settings set too low! -

Damage model question
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to DukeIronHand's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes, the DM for each aircraft type (Camel, Be2, D VII, etc.) currently is the same. However, each aircraft type has its own DM. Additionally, I am contemplating a modification to my IDM to allow for slightly different DMs among aircraft of one aircraft type in order to represent differences in terms of age, workmanship, battle-damage, and repair quality. In essence, an Alb III assigned the AC1 file as described by Sitting Duck might have a slightly different DM than the same Alb model assigned AC2 or SQ4, and so on. -

Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Herr Prop-Wasche's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
The only changes that the new patch makes to the xdp files is the FOV settings, I believe, so it should be compatible with 1.6. The only thing I would suggest is to apply 1.6 after you have installed the patch. Then, before flying, go into workshop and press the FOV button to get the new default OFF FOV settings. I'll test this out myself and report back. -

Ah, Dej! I have some English and Welsh blood flowing through my veins, as well, although my family immigrated to the rebellious colonies over 150 years ago. Sadly, I know little about my ancestor's countrymen except for their fondness for unpronounceable words! -

Good to hear from you, OlPaint1! V2.0 of the IDM for QC can be used with the 1.31L minipatch. Simply apply the patch, then reapply v2.0 of the IDM. All of the damage points and threshold values you need are contained in the 2.0 zip file. As far as a version for the campaign, I am waiting to hear from Fortiesboy regarding a proposal I made to him about combining our two patches. I think our two patches are similar enough that we might be able to make a mod in which some of the planes have "his" DM while others have "my" DM, thus simulating slight differences in quality of workmanship, age, mechanical condition, etc. of the aircraft. Winder also dropped a hint about a dynamic DM that I don't know anything about. In other words, our DM work is not yet done and I think it may only get better!! :drinks_drunk:
