You are welcome, Sah!

When you start the game I think it automatically loads the last configuration that was used, so you may have to manually select "Mine" if it was not being used when you last played. You may have to manually delete the configuration files you don't want. They can be found in the C:\Documents and Settings\...\Application Data\Microsoft\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields folder. Delete all files with a .xca extension (except Mine.xca and CFS3.xca).

Anyone interested in these sound mods?
Herr Prop-Wasche posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I have increased the volume on the inline and rotary engine damaged wave files and the overstress wave by 10-15% to give pilots a better audio signal of the condition of your airplane. Of course, you can do this yourself with any decent sound editor, but I thought I would ask if anyone would like me to put this up on the mods page. The file is less than 1 MB in size. Of course, remember to back up your original sound files before replacing them with any of these 3 files. -
Ahhh, a real killer there! You can see it in his eyes...

Thanks, Winder. Your solution sounds perfectly reasonable. If I choose to offer the file for download I will certainly contact OBD first. -

No problem OvS, no files have been uploaded. All I did was up the volume slightly using Creative Wavestudio, but any sound editor should work. -
Two possibilities I can think of: 1. Shut down all unnecessary programs before you run BHaH. I use EnditAll2. Seems to work pretty well. 2. What are your swap file settings? Is it user defined or Windows managed? If managed by Windows, change it to a user defined static size--between 1X-1.5X the amount of RAM you have.

Also, does he have the latest BIOS for his motherboard? MB manufacturer's sometimes release updated BIOS for their motherboards that fix odd problems. He should check eVGA's website. I agree about the memory timings. My memory (DDR 1) is rated to run at 8-4-4-1, and it works fine for most programs, except OFF. For OFF, I have to leave my memory at 8-4-4-2. I suggested to Joker that he set his BIOS to default, but he never indicated if he did or not. Probably a little wary of screwing something up. He should be okay if he just follows a few precautions, like writing down his current settings and only doing things one step at a time. Don't worry, Joker. We've got your back!

Welcome to OFF, Ronbo! Glad to see another RB3d'er from the Delphi forums flying around here! IMO, you will not be disappointed with BHaH. In most respects it substantially improves upon RB. Graphics: Much superior than RB. Clouds, terrain, airplane skins, effects are all improved. Wind is modeled! Do NOT fly into thick clouds, unless it is an emergency! Damage model: Very good. You can see parts flying off of planes, holes in wings, and whole sections blown off! Fires are modeled (perhaps not as pretty as some of the RB mods, but still very nice). You can also blow up stuff on the ground! Trucks and trains actually move. And troops! Flight model: I think you will be pleased. More variety in BHaH. Try surviving flying an Eindecker! Torque and gyro is modeled. Not sure about propwash! So, Camels and Dr I's are quirky and tricky to fly. Spads are bricks and Nieuports are nimble but fragile. AI:No comparison! AI is much better in BHaH, both enemy planes and wingmen. Wingmen will generally follow your commands (rejoin, attack, split, help me) and the enemy gives you a better fight and is more unpredictable. Of course, the AI is still not perfect, particularly at low level attacks, but OBD is still working on it. Campaign: Comparable or somewhat better than RB. Dynamic campaigns, with moving fronts! Wide variety of historically accurate missions. Flyable two-seaters! Drawbacks: not easy to transfer squadrons (user must manually change files), not all aircraft modeled (especially early war French scouts and two-seaters. No heavy bombers. These may be addressed in a subsequent update). Best of all, BHaH flys right out of the box, with no additional modpacks or hardware kludges or work-arounds. You may have to fiddle a bit with your graphics settings, however. In general, I think OFF works a little better with Nvidea cards, but your mileage may vary. <S!> Propwash

Yep, what he said. At the very least, you might invest in one more stick of RAM. It is very cheap right now, and I don't think you will be very happy with OFF on just one GB of RAM.

He he, the Nieuport 28 has exactly 28 votes! Coincidence--or not? -
Normal with "hard" guns vs. Hardcore with "normal guns?
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to redwolf's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
More info regarding my above post. All of my testing has been in QC. With DM at hardcore and bullets at normal, I have seen debris flying from wings, planes going into spins from severe damage, mid-air explosions, "falling like a leaf syndrome" (very rare), but no wings coming off. Think I will try with bullets set to strong, normal spread. If you are not seeing debris coming off the plane or puffs of smoke, you are probably too far away. You have to get in close in order to see your "punches" having much of an effect. So, "grab them by the ear and kick them in the ass," is as good advice in the air as it is for the infantry. -
Normal with "hard" guns vs. Hardcore with "normal guns?
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to redwolf's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I have been following the DM changes from 1.26 to 1.28a with interest, with an eye on the changes made to the "hitpoints" for the aileron cables, aileron, wings, and wingtips. Using the original 1.0 DM values as a base, here is what I have observed regarding these values (note: all testing with player guns set to normal): 1.0 DM cable 100% aileron 100% wing 100% wingtip 100% Observations: Aileron cables especially susceptible to AI fire. All others very sturdy. Few spins, virtually no wings "blowing" off. AI aircraft frequently make "slow glide to death." Easy DM cable 200% aileron 200% wing 25% wingtip 50% Observations: Cables more resistant to AI fire. Wings blown off easily. Control seriously affected by only a few bursts from AI guns. Lots of spins and wings getting blown off. Hard DM cable 200% aileron 200% wing 50% wingtip 75% Observations: Cables resistant to AI fire. Takes longer to lose turn control, probably from stronger ailerons. Wings only blown off occasionally. Less likely to lose control from only a few bursts from AI guns. Some spins, some planes exploding into flames. Overall, a nice balance between the release version and the easy version. If I were to change anything, I might set the values for both aileron cables and aileron to 150%. This would set them to halfway between the original release values and the hardcore values. -
LATEST UPDATE PATCH V1.28a and OPTIONAL HARD CORE DAMAGE PACK IS NOW AVAILABLE!
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Polovski's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Preliminary report on the "hard" damage model option: OUTSTANDING! Flew a few QC battles with Fokker D VIIF vs. Sopwith Pups (unfair fight) to test the new damage model. Battles now last longer, but not insanely long. Did not observe any wings come right off, but I am a very twitchy gunner. I DID see spins, flamers, and planes becoming more sluggish in maneuverability after several hits. Overall, almost as much variety as the "easier" DM in patch 1.26 but not as many wings getting blown off. Seems more realistic in my opinion. Although I did not get hit, I imagine it will be tougher to get shot down with just one or two bursts from the AI with this DM. Next test is to fly in some more evenly matched fights to see if I can take it as well as I dish it out! Did I say this looks like an outstanding job! -
Can you take a picture/print-screen of your BIOS settings to make sure that everything is set up right? Most relevant at this point would be PCI Express settings and (for my board at least) PEG buffer settings. I assume your MB did not have integrated video and that your current cards are the original video you installed with the board?

Since Phase 3 is wrapping up, and it is unlikely that there will be any further substantial changes to BHaH, I thought I would ask a question to get some feedback from players about the damage model for Phase 4 or whatever version of OFF the good people at OBD choose to come up with. Here is the question: What do you think about the damage model after patch 1.28? Is it just right, too easy, or too hard? I lean towards thinking the DM is just about right, or maybe slightly too easy (but not much). What do you think? If you could improve the DM, what would you do? Note to Winder, Pol, OvS, and others at OBD: It is not my intention to criticize BHaH or any of the massive number of improvements you have made to OFF, including changes to the DM. Just thought it would be interesting to do a quasi-scientific poll on player attitudes towards the DM. If you feel this poll is inappropriate in any way, it will not hurt my feelings one bit if you ask me to delete it.

Next airplane for OFF?
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Herr Prop-Wasche's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Great input, guys! Keep the votes (and the opinions) going! I agree about the early war 2 seaters. Would be nice to see some Aviatiks, as well as the Morane Parasol. I don't know about the VERY early planes, like the Taube however. Seems they would be too difficult and slow to be fun to fly, except for QC's. OTOH, they would be nice additions as AI only planes. -
Seems we were posting at about the same time and I did not see your post. Did you enjoy the black Russians? So: 1.) Should I change my allocations to the C:Drive? Change your swap file from dynamic to user defined. Try a value of 4096. 2.) Should I make the D:Drive have virtual memory and if I do, do I need to then adjust the C:Drive Leave D: drive alone for now.

Your RAM is 4 sticks. Are these sticks identical in terms of brand, MB's and speed? Mixing different brands, speeds, and size can all cause problems. What are the MB's for each of the sticks? I'm curious that you have four sticks of RAM which add up to 2.5 Gigs. I bet you have sticks of different sizes in your MB. Virtual memory should be set to approximately 1.5 times the amount of RAM on your system. So, if your RAM totals 3 Gigs, your virtual memory should be set to around 4.5 Gigs. It also helps to put your virtual memory on a separate drive from your game programs. If you don't have a separate drive, try putting it on a separate partition. For example, if your hard drive is divided into C: and D: drives, and your programs and games are on the C: drive, put your VM on the D: drive.
