OFFbase: the Barmy Automated Squadron Experience for OFF
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Lothar of the Hill People's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Nice! But don't expect a lot of feedback from many posters. OFF3 is getting a little old in the tooth now and some have moved on to other games. But, I expect a lot more interest in your mod after P4 comes out. Personally, I love your mod. In fact, I wish it could be fully integrated into OFF to create the ultimate simulation of life in a sqaudron/Jasta during WWI. -

Pfalz D.III - Much Maligned?
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Pips's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Nice to have this kind of discussion on the forum. If I may, I would like to add a few words: Regarding the Pfalz versus the Albatross DV. Part of the bias, if there is any, I think, is due to prior reputation. The Albatross DII and DIII are most often associated with the latter part of the "Fokker scourge," and were the first German aircraft to effectively take on the DH2, Sopwith Pup, and Nieuport 11. On the other hand, I don't think the Pfalz had any such reputation. Because of this, I think most people were biased in favor of expecting the DV to be an improvement on its well-known predecessor, the DIII. In fact, it was largely a disappointment both in terms of speed, turn, and climb. But, we all know that reputation can go a long way.... Regarding the DR1, I think FlybyPC is absolutely right when he said that the German pilots were perhaps more impressed with the DR1 than the Allied pilots. Up until the DR1, most German scouts (including the Albatross series) emphasized climb over turning ability. For pilots used to the Albatross and used to going up against the much more maneuverable Sopwith Pup and Triplane, the DR1 must have felt like a real momentum turner in terms of the comparative advantage of one side's planes over the other. Also, in regard to the so-called slowness of the DR1, I have seen references to it having a top speed of 102 mph or 115 mph, with the latter placing it in the same category as the Camel. Of course, in terms or relative speed, the DR1 was much slower than many of its contemporaries, including the Spad VII, XIII, and the Se5a. -
Thanks, OlPaint01! I'll give it a go as soon as I can.

Yes, Shiloh, you have really found a way to dress up the ordinarily somewhat humdrum looking DVII. I can also see you have captured a fine example of a DVII "hanging from its prop," as well. Good show! -

Bundle of JSGME enabled Realism Mods
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to OlPaint01's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I don't have a 1915 version of the weather files, so adding Bletchely's 1915 weather files to mine should not cause any conflict. HPW skies just adds a few cloud types to the cloud classes that are randomly generated for each mission depending on the cloud class designated in the weather files, so it also should not cause any conflicts. -

I, too, would like to have that Dr1 skin. @ Olham. Now that I have my new computer, I turned up my Terrain slider to 4 and my Scenery to 3. However, turning up ground density to high really added a number of trees and greenery to the appearance of the ground. I was also able to reduce the number of trees from "popping" into view by reducing one of the texture sliders from 1.0 to .9. I'll have to check and report back the exact slider when I get home. -

I'm not home until tonight, so I can't say about the order of the files. I'll know by tomorrow, however. In answer to your observation about Bletchley's files, that's why I went ahead and did weather files for 1916-1918! -

Really nice work, OlPaint01 on the Great War Bundle! Regarding which weather mod to use, I'll have to get back to you on that. I think the weather files and the mission files are different, so loading Buddy's mission files should not affect my weather files. If I'm not mistaken you will only see my "skies" if you also use my OFFHistoricalWeather19xx.txt files. However, I only added a couple of new sky conditions, so most people can probably get by without that. On the other hand, I did a lot of extensive re-doing of the mission frequencies in the weather19xx.txt files and you will miss out on those if you don't use my weather19xx.txt files. You are also more likely to fly at least one mission on a lightly raining day in an active sector compared to the stock weather files, which are more likely to give you a "washout" day. I also worked to increase the snow cover in the winter months, so if you like to feel like you are flying in the depths of winter you might want to stick to my weather files. Finally, my weather files corrected a few errors that I found in the original weather files, including a couple of long stretches of the same weather conditions lasting up to two or three weeks. -

File Name: HPW Lighter AI Empty Weight Mod File Submitter: Herr Prop-Wasche File Submitted: 03 March 2012 File Category: Modding Tools and Add-on Software This mod is designed to replace 33Lima's original AI Empty Weight mod by reducing the empty weight of aircraft flown by the AI and cure the problem of aircraft (especially two-seaters) from clearing the trees and hills at the end of certain airfields in OFF. Although the current version of HPW's FM will work with this mod, it is NOT recommended that you use my FM changes with this mod because the weights for the AI are different in the two mods. A new version of my FM with revised empty weight settings will be released in the very near future. Installation: Install by extracting the mod to your CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\MODS folder that was created when you installed the JSGME file management program to work with OFF. To activate, simply highlight the mod and click on the top button in the main JSGME screen that opens when you start JSGME. Click here to download this file

OlPaint1, I'd like to try the soundmod, too, and I was wondering what your issues are with the Download section? Is it not accepting the file format or is it the size of the file? If it is the file format, just wrap it up in a zipfile folder. If it is the size, perhaps you can delete some of your content on Combatace to free up some space on the forum? If you have already tried this, I apologize. Good luck!

HPW Lighter AI Empty Weight Mod
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Herr Prop-Wasche's topic in WOFF UE/PE - File Announcements
Thank you for your interest OlPaint. The delay with the FM is because I keep finding new things to tweak and there are always more planes to work on. Also, Madmatt is working on an installer program for the planeset, but he got set back a bit by some minor surgery. I know i've said this before, but I should have it ready soon. How about if I release what I have now and then release the other planes I am working on (Fokker DVII's, Camel, Se5a's, DH5, Hannover, Nieuport 16, 17, 24) a few weeks after that? -

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Nice detective work, Olham! -
Hi, just a quick question to solicit opinions about the "pitching" ability of these aircraft: Actually, let me ask it in the form of a poll. Please add comments to go along with your vote. For example, the Se5a H-P and Viper seem to be almost as light as a feather when trying to climb (pitch up) or dive (pitch down). Does this effect seem overdone to you or not? For some other planes, pitch can be very sluggish (sorry, I don't have an example that immediately comes to mind). What do you think? Is the pitch overdone on the Se5a's or any other plane in OFF? If so, which ones? A few notes: 1) This is not meant as a criticism in any way of the OFF devs. I've looked high and low and have found little, if any, reference to how quickly any of these planes responded in the pitch axis, and I'm sure that the devs had similar luck. So, in that respect, both their and my interpretation of this effect is certainly subject to argument and debate. 2) This poll is not meant to be used as a final determinant on how this effect might be implemented in my revised FM. However, I think asking this group of forum members with all of their knowledge and experience about all things WWI air and computer sim related is as good a place to start as any. Thank you for your help and participation.

I'll give that a try when I get home, rp. Certainly shouldn't happen very easily.
-
To me, it means how easily or how quickly you can pull the nose of an aircraft from a horizontal to an almost vertical position. Some aircraft, like the Se5a feel too "light" when I pull back on the stick. In other words, I get very little sense of weight or inertia when I pull back on the stick of the Se5a. Other aircraft are more sluggish when you do this.

Advice for "Pilot Dossiers" management
Herr Prop-Wasche replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I currently have at least 15 pilots in my dossier. I only delete a pilot after he has been "rubbed out." -
Red, Do you mean turning inverted, and then pulling back on the stick? I didn't really consider G's, but there is a setting for negative G's in the .cfg file. While the G settings might make the plane more prone to break, I'm not sure it will have any effect on the "quickness" with which you can make the change in pitch. I'm primarily talking about the quickness you can make the nose of the plane go up or down. I might tackle negative G's later.

Doh! I forgot to include the link. Here it is, akulawein: http://combatace.com/topic/60942-sia-flying-and-air-fighting-pilot-primers/ Consider this the reading part of flight school!

We are a pretty good bunch on this forum, I think, so if you do begin to get frustrated, don't feel shy about asking people for help. We were all rookies at one time! You might also check out the threads on flying some of the various planes that are available in OFF. They contain some good tips about some of the odd quirks of some of these old birds.
