Albatros DII - Jasta 16b
Rooster89 replied to Beanie's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Skinning / Modeling Help
Ahh, the old "horseshoe" Albatros. I forget who actually flew that one, but I always liked it. Nice work Beanie! -Rooster -
Cool. What do I win? lol. Maybe we should have an ongoing "Mystery" thread (like the Breguet ones over at TheAerodrome), with difficult questions and quirky "name the plane" pictures? Whoever gets the correct, or closest answer wins and posts the next question/picture. Anyone second this idea? If so I can get one up later tonight. -Rooster

Can I take a stab? Is it because both founders of both manufacturers had relatives that served in the Italian 76a Squadriglie? The horse was 76a's insignia. -Rooster

Alright, cool Siggi. Thanks. Its not too hard to edit your pilots name in the Dossier files either so...I hope I get a good name -Rooster

Aww C'mon Unc, no Red Rider BB gun with a compass in the stock? Yep got the rig working great now. Its like a whole new game. "What theres trees???" LOL. All sliders at 5 except terrain, thats at 4 with OBD's reccomendation. Next PC related purchase is gonna be TrackIR, sometime this or next month. Gotta get some forks for my bike first though.... -Rooster

I voted "just right". I couldn't agree more with Pol and some of you others. There is just way too many variables to get it absolutely as it was in WW1. We are all virtual aces from playing combat flight sims for a decade or more. It would be hard to make the game so hard so that its like we were all greenhorns at the front. However if you let someone play the game that is new to a combat flight sim its exactly this way, I let my friend play whose never flown a flight sim before and he got shot down in flames in an SE5a by a Fok. E.III. Eh...Im rambling In short OFF is as real as it gets....unless you have a time machine. -Rooster -
Well, maybe I imagined it. lol. If you look at the allied archie and its above the horizon level it still does appear black. But if you look at it from above it does seem alot lighter in coloring that German archie. I dont know, it looks that way to me though. -Rooster

Next airplane for OFF?
Rooster89 replied to Herr Prop-Wasche's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I think that the very early planes (such as the Taube, maybe a Bleriot?) would be a blast to fly, very challenging too. More chance of cracking up on the landing than anything else. -Rooster -

Im glad to see that little R&R at the bottom of your post, Winder. Un-tape your eyeballs and get some good rest. Hopefully no one drives over to your house, banging on the door yelling "Theres a database error! Theres a database error!" (there cant be any now!) lol. Seriously though, hope you get alot of very well deserved rest. That goes for all you devs. -Rooster -

Yep, last night I went on a balloon busting mission in my Halberstadt D.II. I spotted the balloon and dove down on it. And I noticed that Allied Archie is now white. I dont remember it being that white before. Awesome. I love this sim! -Rooster

Do you fly Fighters or Bombers in Campaign?
Rooster89 replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hey Creaghorn, This is how I do it. Go to the OBD Software file (or wharever BHAH installed on your machine) and go to, Campaigns/Campaign Data/Pilots and then find the Pilot dossier that you wish to move from bombers to scouts or vice versa. Edit the third line down and put in the squadron you wish to transfer to...exactly the way it appears in the campaign manager. You may have to enter and exit the Campaign Manager once or twice to make it take effect. HTH. If something goes haywire please dont pin it on me. lol. Devs: If you want me to take this down and send it to Creaghorn via PM just let me know. How do I upload a pic so that you dont have to d/l and just click on it? Sorry first picture post. -
Will do Siggi. Have a safe trip. -Rooster

You must've been reading my mind Widowmaker. I was thinking of starting a thread with my favorite WW1 song lyrics. Here they are: When you're soaring through the air in a Sopwith Scout And you're scrappin' with a Hun and your gun cuts out Well, you stuff down your nose 'till your plugs fall out 'Cos you haven't got a hope in the morning Well, my batman woke me from my bed I had a thick night and a very sore head So I said to myself, to myself I said Oh we haven't got a hope in the morning We were escorting Twenty-Two And hadn't a notion what to do So we shot down a Hun and an FE too 'Cos they hadn't got a hope in the morning We went to Cambrai all in vain the FE says "We must explain" "Our cameras broke, we must do it again" Oh we haven't got a hope in the morning I believe this song was written by the members of 54 Sqn. RFC. -Rooster

Rooster89 replied to Herr Prop-Wasche's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I voted for the heavy bombers, but I absolutely agree with OvS! I'd love to fly some two-seaters(even unarmed ones) in 1914 and '15. Maybe you devs can rig up something, using the already in place gunner system, to fire a single shot field rifle at an enemy observation crate? That'd be cool. Just throwin' out ideas here, dont mind me. -Rooster -
Are you saying I've gone off the deep end?
-
Is that a serious statement? Just yankin' yer chain Griphos. Some of my favorite WW1 books are: Fighting The Flying Circus by Capt. E.V.Rickenbacker (as mentioned by Lou) Ace of the Iron Cross by Ernst Udet And one that I've just picked up, although I should've read it a loooong time ago, Biggles: The Camels Are Coming. Im in the middle of reading this one and its a great read, Im ripping right through it (The chapters are more like short stories). This one is a fictional tale of the British hero's time flying Camels in WW1, but it was written by Capt. W.E. Johns, who flew with the RFC. It's filled with stories of things that "could've happened", but the tales are "stretched" a little bit. -Rooster
