  1. Thanks Olham, I will name him Lt Wyman Filbrich after my brother I echo Lou's comments above Gut gemacht! Ich besorge die Getränke
  2. Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome

Rhineeck is an amazing place It's been a while, I must go back Yes, post some pics please!
  3. Flyboys vs Red Baron

How about Spielberg and Hanks? They did a bang-up job on "Band of Brothers" 1st rate in the historical accuracy dept
  4. Olham, my 1/2 brother's surname is an Americanized version of Philbrick or Philbricks He and I are very close so it would be nice to carry his pennant into vCombat Nice idea!
  5. A little more about me

Touching story Widow I hope you meet her and have a wonderful time ...and I'm sure your Mum is smiling up above She obviously did her job very well
  6. I know what you mean I don't fly turn fighters but energy fighters can have similar experiences After making a firing pass a 1/2 loop will bring you above and back at em Usually the AI will turn or dive away But occasionally you'll meet him inverted as he's 1/2 looping after you! Cinch your straps a notch tighter cuz you're in for a wild fight ...woohoo!
  7. Air Fight WWI

That clip is from Hell's Angels It's the big dogfight climax Who needs CGI ...just build an Ammo Dump & blow it up! The romance scenes were enough to make one gag though, very very campy If you're looking for an old WWI classic, I recoommend Dawn Patrol w/ Errol Flynn Better than The Blue Max ...IMHO of course
  8. Welcome to OFF Bruce! I concur TrackIR is the way to go It allows you to look around in the sim just by turning you head It's very natural and pretty soon you'll really think you're peering over the cockpit side with you head in the slipstream Check out the Video Sticky above to see how it works HTH,
  9. Flyboys vs Red Baron

One thing that always bugs me about Flyboys (and other aerial movies) is how the pilots react when they're fired upon They just keep on flying and take a long and dispassionate look behind ...then make a manuever Hollywood seems incapable of showing fluid combat, not thinking, reacting as you look ...or you're dead And show some terror and panic in their eyes
  10. Mosquito

    Pretty bird ...pretty bird!
  11. U tube Vid

No problems accessing here Nice vid Carrick Thanks for posting
  12. <S!> and Hello from Canada

Welcome aboard Jack! You're in for a treat AI was greatly improved in P3 so watch your 6 Hefeweizen please
  13. I haven't really flown an Se5 since early in P2 Took her up on a whim and it was like meeting an old friend It sure was nice to have her speed On the 1st mission 3 Pfalz's passed high to Port, intending to fly by We just put the spurs to her and ran them down, shooting all 3 down w/o loss Next scrap w/ Alb DIII's didn't go so well as I somehow lost my top wing (see screenshot thread) Great visibility, a nice sight, and good manueverability I think I'll keep flying her for a while
  14. Reunion with an Old Friend

I can't remeber where I heard it originally But it makes sense Stability is the opposite of manueverability Camel and Se5 exibit this comaprison pretty well Se seems to have been designed for beginners, speed and a stable gun platform Even with 4 ailerons her roll rate wasn't that great I think Bullet is right, her dihedral added stability at the expense of roll rate Camel on tbe other hand is so unstable she'll jump into turns seemingly on her own In the hands of an expert she was deadly and in the hands of a noice ...deadly to him
  15. I don't consider myself a great marksman and try to plan my shots as Bullet suggests But still I try to avoid those tracking attack paths that kill E and end up in collisions The intent is to try and fly straighter, cutting across the arc of his turn and attack from a more perpendicular position The straighter flight path keeps E up and the shorter fligh path means closure is more rapid (even on faster crates) It also results in a firing pass rather than riding right up on his tail feathers Collisions are rare as, if you open fire at 50 yards, by the time you get there, he's gone Whipping up into a 1/2 loop or some sort of wingover resets your E, opens the gap, and allows you to setup your next pass I find this also improves shooting accuracy too You end up firing at your target in plan view rather than his thin profile from astern
  16. Reunion with an Old Friend

I think a lot depends on the AI skill level in the Se5 If he's an Ace, you're in for a wild fight in the vertical Rookie and he'll use his speed to fly wide climbing circles forcing med to long range shots Camels are a challenge too They lack the speed to run so it's a close quarters rumble I had my 1st scrap w/ Razors tonight Man they can zoom and turn ...and stop on a dime! Overshoot was a constant threat But I managed to bag 4 That makes a lot of sense They say every great fighter must be unstable in at least 1 axis
  17. Reunion with an Old Friend

I wonder if the cfs3 Bomb View can be altered to an Aldis View
  18. Reunion with an Old Friend

Yes, flying inline DVII's it's quite easy to slip into the Se5 And I was flying the Viper version Zoomzoom (74 Sqdrn) The Hispo has that big headrest and Aldis sight that complicates her I'm sure many of those were removed in field One thing that puzzles me is her 4 ailerons (like Camel) She's reputed to have poor roll performance but with 4 flippers you'd think she'd snap round easily
  19. Thanks Guys, Hellshade, I have to say losing the top wing is definately preferable to losing 1 or both lower ones Se5 having ailerons on the bottom helped But looking at the pictures, I'm not sure they're evn functional Olham, Calling it a landing is certainly generous Unless you're applying the "Any landing you can walk away from..." rule
  20. Who took my Top Wing??? Not sure how this happened I was in a scrap with Alb DIII's when I was decapitated She flew OK til I tried to pull out for the landing and slid/rolled to Port But reunification with earth was horizontal ...and he lived!
  21. FIFA World Cup

I had the same experience I've played 2 (semi) organised games of soccer in 8th grade phys-ed It wasn't pretty, we had no idea of positional play etc. But nowadays my nephews are soccer crazy There're organised youth leagues all about
  22. Father's Day

    Indeed Happy Father's Day all!
  23. FIFA World Cup

LOL! John Cleese is great He's the best at outrageous comedy
  24. FIFA World Cup

Here, this should explain it all: btw. I'm sure most European's would like real ...erm ...American Football Tackling is not only allowed, it's highly encouraged
