Coordinationg Missions w/ Ace and Bomber Flights
Duce Lewis replied to Duce Lewis's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I've had this same problem I think it may be due to seting AutoTrim with nose above the horizon I set AutoTrim with nose slightly down now and haven't had the problem recently And yes it does break wings I found it's best not to fight the manuever by pushing stick forward Best to pull back into a loop HTH, -

Coordinationg Missions w/ Ace and Bomber Flights
Duce Lewis replied to Duce Lewis's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I flew 3 more Test Flights tonight #1 was a Bomber Escort for an Airfield Strike Hit Shift+W several times to eliminate initial airfield circling Warped immediately after this Ended up 1/2 mile ahead and slightly above the Bombers We flew on climbing towards the target Watched the Bombers closely and mirrored their movements Curiously, the Bombers turned off 6 miles before the target Followed them around for about 30 min as they turned back & forth They never got within 5 miles of the target and bombed vehicles (very successfully) instead They turned for home so I eventually had to Shift+W to follow #2 was a CAP behind enemy front lines I placed the targeting arrow on the Ace Flight leader before take-off Hit Shift+W to eliminate circling and then Warped Warp exited when HA appeared ahead Ace Flight was nowhere in sight but the targeting arrow indicated they were below and far behind Turned round and flew back and spotted them circling home base Warped again and they dissppeared behind Turned round and found them finally flying out from base Warped a 3rd time and this time they vanished, never seen again Targeting arrow turned off Either the Ace I was tracking was destroyed or maybe Ace Flight despawned #3 was nother CAP behind enemy front lines This time only hit Shift+W 2 times and then Warped Ace flight was 3 miles behind and far above us when warp exited White Bogie Labels didn't appear so I assume linear distance was greater than 4 miles They followed us along ignoring a Dogfight we passed over They ignored us too when we dove on some Camels homeward bound Never saw them again Conclusions: If you Warp Shift+W really helps to stay with the Bombers Although it can place you ahead of the Ace Flight, Shift+W doesn't solve the height difference Thanks to 77 Scout for suggesting to eliminate circling -
Iti, high deflection shots are are good tactics, especially against 2 seaters WWI crates aren't very fast so deflection shooting isn't too difficult Rolands aren't as manueverable as Biffs but the TGer's do a good job of keeping your tail clear IMO they're under powered and therefore don't perform vertically like the Biffs either

Good news almoccoyjr! Glad you're safe and dry I pray you get some dry weather too -
Mission #1 was a Balloon Defense Our flight of 5 DVII's followed A Flight's 3 Short flight to the front, a 90o turn to port towards the balloon, A Flight descending below us Almost immediately bogies popped up 11 & 1 O'Clock high A Flight flew on so we maintained high cover The 11 O'Clock bogies (5 Se5's) moved in and dove on A Flight It didn't look good so I sent the Wingies to help Intuition said 'delay' and sure enough the 1 O'Clock bunch turned up 5 more Se5's Intercepted but they blew right by me, got a good burst into 1 but he just dove down into the scrap Dove down after him but it was already goig bad Managed to shoot 1 down then ended up running for my life 2 Se's gave chase & when 1 finally turned back I turned on his M8 Shot him down with a flaming engine then made for home ...Massacre is the only word that comes to mind Mission #2 Balloon Defense, approach front, 90o turn to port, A Flight descends, bogies 11 & 1 O'Clock high De ja vous, hair stood up on my neck, but his time both A & B Flights are packin 6 DVII ea. Sure enough, the 1 O'Clocker's are Se5's and dive on A Flight, passing right through them, below us Watched the 1 O'Clock boys a bit but they're not moving, ATTACK! and down we go We hit em hard with A Flight joining back in Made a pass on 1 and 1/2 looped back at him Hit him hard fron astern, then 2 wingies popped up right in front on me, hitting him too Banked off and found a new target, shooting him down after a couple passes Pulled up and looked around, watching the Se5's getting mopped up 1, 2, 3, ...12, we're all here but there's more bogies out there Started climbing their direction, trying to provide picket duty, early warning 4 Camels flew off but a 2nd flight of 4 Se5's dove below me at our reforming DVII's Called the attack and dove on the 2 Tail End Charlie's My beloved B Flight responded to the call but A Flight had turned for home Mangaged to shoot 2 down with the wingies cleaning up the other 2 Tommies ...NO LOSSES! Skies clear we merrily reformed and headed for home Hadn't gotten a couple miles when still more bogies popped up at 8 O'Clock They were passing behind us heading right for the Balloon Sure would be bad sport to valiently defend the balloon then fly off while it's destroyed Round we turned, angling to cut them off These Se5's flew strangely, splitting into 2 groups and milling about Not sure if we engaged the whole lot, but at least 2 went down, 1 of em mine Again we reformed all 6 and set off for home, struttin along like peacocks Just before approaching home field more bogies poopped up 10 O'Clock Cautiously skirted them as ammo belts were getting light Turned out to be A Flight! engaging 3 or 4 Re8's ...Have at em M8's! They seemed to have the situation in hand and we touched down feather light Only got credit for 3 but who cares, the squad was wildly successful! Sure was a raucus night in the canteen ...but there where some missing faces

A case for stronger wings on the Tripe
Duce Lewis replied to Schnitzel von Krumm's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Schnitzel, there are a couple general rules I follow to keep my crate intact 1. Throttle back when diving 2. Pull up into a snap turn instead of trying to follow corkscrewing HA down Tends to keep the wings on Nieup pilots have reported diving in a skid to keep speed down HTH, -
OK Olham, I'm ready to enlist my Jast 4 pilot My Jasta 5 guy, Alois Krieger met his end rather stupidly Had a great little escort mission, (see Coordinating Ace & Bomber Flights Poll) We led 5 Hannovers 10 miles behind enemy lines There were HA milling about everywhere and a big Dogfight on the perimeter Managed to shoot 5 Camels and 2 Se5's down It wasn't that difficult as we took them on mostly 1 at a time and always had a height advantage Lost 3 Hannovers but their tactics were insane so they're asking for it Saw the remaining 2 off and touched down in a 3 pointer Taxied up to the hanger and switched off Decided to wait to see the wingies land and getting bored decided park her in the hanger Any idea what happened next??? ...7.5 hours down the tubes!

Coordinationg Missions w/ Ace and Bomber Flights
Duce Lewis replied to Duce Lewis's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Just had a 3 Flight Mission We escorted 5 Hannovers, A & B Flights with 4 each Tried something new, hit Shift+W several times to skip past the initial circling Hit Warp immeditely afterward and warped to the front line Hannovers were 1/2 mile behind and slightly below - Cool Beans! A Flight was nowhere in sight Hit Warp again with the same results about 5 miles deep behind enemy lines Continued towards target but the Hannovers turned around and broke into 3 formtions Turned and tried to cover them but when they're going 180 from each other it got tough HA showed up on the parimeters and a Dogfight appeared Finally spotted A Flight fighting some Camels but no clue how they got there Single and pairs of HA started pecking around the Hannovers so we raced back & forth trying to shoo them off Having a height advantage was a real help as it allowed B&Z tactics and to stay somewhat near the Bombers Shot several down this way and finally started the homeward trek Scrapped with several Camels while exiting and finally lost the Bombers Warped again and caught up with them as they made their turn for their base Losses: 3 Hannovers 1 B Flight DVII No idea on A Flight I'll try the same Shift+W tactic with A Flight again and see if we can stay together -

Coordinationg Missions w/ Ace and Bomber Flights
Duce Lewis replied to Duce Lewis's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I warp just about every mission Always end up way below Ace Flight or far behind the Bombers HA almost always bounce my flight but sometimes after long climbs I can reach their altitude Occasionally I can coordinate tactics with Ace Flight (after long chases) but Bombers are always far away -
I think RFC had a big superiority in numbers by 1918 Flying DVII's is tough enough, hat's offto the DVa Jocks in this era Yeah Mission #2 was a real treat No losses and even found A Flight fighting on at the end Usually missions results are somewhere between the 2 But the contrast of massacre vs routing the HA was worth posting Sounds like a wild ride I've avoided Jasta 4 because of the Beugneaux Airfield Flew from there so many times in P2 Next pilot - Jasta 4 though Sounds like a glorious if but so short a career!

Problem with A / 1st Flight's Orders
Duce Lewis replied to Bullethead's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I've had the same problem whether at high or medium altitude Problem seems to be on B Flight (Player) alone A Flight and Bombers seem to be at HA height, sometimes higher or lower B Flight is always way low and astern Bombers don't follow flight path shown in Mission Briefing Often a rendevous point is depicted at some point away from the base But they're always overhead at take-off and head off on the mission quickly Scout's solution might indicate the climb out and circling may be the issue I'll try Shift+W to to skip past this next escort mission Pol, I can understand the need to close out P3 I'll start a Poll Thread to see how many are experiencing this -
Sure sounds like a fanatic eh? Correctly modeled I might add
-
No matter how many times A Flight has left me to the wolves ...I always try to do my duty and support them That way when I rip them in my claim reports, I can claim innocence in abandoning them Huh! what squad you flyin??? I almost never get ny outside help And 1/2 the time A Flight bails on me Can't count how many times, odds looked so good, then I ended up being hounded all the way home alone
-
Tell me about it In P2 Udet flew down on top of me on Nov 10th 1918!!! Wasn't his historical day but was my last virtual one It was clearly my shot too I'd chased that Se 1/2 way round the sky before he clobbered me

Problem with A / 1st Flight's Orders
Duce Lewis replied to Bullethead's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
99% of the time A Flight is so much higher they only appear as bogies Spend the whole mission just climbing and chasing after them Since our speeds are equal, they either engage while we're out of range or fly on, leaving us to get bounced IMO this is 1 reason it's so hard to coordinate missions with A Flight (for warpers) Bombers are so far ahead and above they don't even appear on the TAC Only way to follow them is to put the targeting arrow on them at take-off Only way to catch up is to cut off waypoints and hope to reach them before HA Impossible to set up any protection sceme I know you guys are busy and you're work is marvelous But any chance this can be tweaked? Cheers, -
Problem with A / 1st Flight's Orders
Duce Lewis replied to Bullethead's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Cool Beans Pol, Thanks for the quick fix! Do you have the B Flight warping too low and far behind on your things to do list? Just had an escort mission where I couldn't catch up to the bombers until they'd reached the target Had to cut off a waypoint to do it too I'm becoming an expert at getting bounced ...wingies have a lot to learn though -

Problem with A / 1st Flight's Orders
Duce Lewis replied to Bullethead's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yep, same here A Flight usually bugs out the last waypoint before the target, diving away When HA appear I'm usually more worried about what A Flight will do than the HA -
Smashing idea UK Good on you M8!
