It's Time To Play,"What's My Plane" !
Duce Lewis replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
The plane is a Morane Saulnier L w/ Roland Garros at the controls It has the distinction of being the 1st aircraft with a fixed MG firing through the propeller arc A "parasol" monoplane, the Morane Type L was a fragile two-seat reconnaissance aircraft. It was the first aircraft armed with a fixed machine gun that fired through the propeller arc. Bullets which struck the propeller were deflected by steel plates. Armed with a Hotchkiss machine gun firing 8 mm solid copper bullets, Roland Garros tested the design in April 1915. He scored three victories in three weeks before the plane was captured by the Germans. Country: France Manufacturer: Société des Aéroplanes Morane-Saulnier Type: Fighter Reconnaissance First Introduced: 1913 Number Built: 600 Engine(s): Gnome, rotary, 80 hp Wing Span: 36 ft 9 in [11.2 m] Length: 22 ft 6¾ in [6.88 m] Height: 12 ft 10½ in [3.93 m] Empty Weight: [385 kg] Gross Weight: 1,441 lb [655 kg] Max Speed: 71.5 mph [115 kmh] Ceiling: 13,123 ft [4000 m] Endurance: 2½ hours Crew: 1 or 2 Armament: 1 machine gun -

Duke, Yep, Devs are pretty tightlipped on release dates Understandable as they're small team and always tweaking and perfecting There have been occasional sneak previews of upcomming planes Offhand I remember these: Nieup 24 (23 I think too) Sop Snipe Fok DVIII I'm sure there'll be much more but only the Team knows for sure -
Thinking of Buying Over Flanders Field

Oh come now Shred, it's the perfect analogy! Winder would be King Arthur of course You'd be Sir Shred-a-lot OVS could be... erm ...ahh ...the Black Knight at the bridge The obnoxious French guys would be the hecklers from that unnamable sim And the holy grail is undoubtedly a new engine for P4 Job's got a lot of perks ...just watch out for the flying cows -
I'm not sure if the British ever showed any interest in the N.28 ...but the French rejected it completely and passed it on to the USAS Maybe USAS Brass felt like they were getting a 2nd rate plane right from the beginning The wing failures might have just reinforced their thoughts and gave an excuse to dump her There is a fairly modern equivalent to this At the time of the development of the F16, Northrup redesigned it's F5 to become the F20 The F20 was a very good plane but the USAF selected the F16 for contracts Offering both for sale worldwide, most favored nations were allowed to purchase the F16 Not so favored nations could only buy the F20 Well, nobody wanted the 2nd banana and F20 sales totaled "0" D-I-H, the Dawn Patrol planes were N.28's, Errol Flynn (err, the stunt pilot) performed a nifty barrol roll near the end There were also N.28's in Hell's Angels They were only background though in the Se5 squadrons to fill the ranks Se's got all the close-ups

That sums it up pretty well Hellman OFF is not a business venture, thus there are very few compromises OFF is a labor of love, short on cash, but long on heart Devs here have done a marvelous job and deserve to be knighted for their achievemnts -

#17 is a JN-4 Curtiss Jenny The Curtiss "Jenny" America's most famous World War I airplane, was developed by combining the best features of the Curtiss "J" and "N" models. A 1915 version, the JN-3, was used in 1916 during Pershing's Punitive Expedition into Mexico. Its poor performance, however, made it unsuited for field operations. The JN-3 was modified in 1916 to improve its performance and redesignated the JN-4.With America's entry into World War I on April 6, 1917, the Signal Corps began ordering large quantities of JN-4s, and by the time production was terminated after the Armistice, more than 6,000 had been delivered, the majority of them JN-4D. The Jenny was generally used for primary flight training, but some were equipped with machine guns and bomb racks for advanced training. After World War I, hundreds were sold on the civilian market. The airplane soon became the mainstay of the "Barnstormer" of the 1920s, and some Jennies were still being flown in the 1930s. The JN-4D now on display was obtained from Mr. Robert Pfeil of Taylor, Texas in 1956. SPECIFICATIONS Span: 43 ft. 7 in. Length: 27 ft. 4 in. Height: 9 ft. 10 in. Weight: 1,430 lbs. Armament: Usually none Engine: Curtiss OX-5 of 90 hp. Cost: $5,465 PERFORMANCE Maximum Speed: 75 mph. Maximum Endurance: 2 1/2 hrs. -
Thanks Fates, looks great! Lot of nice new features here too Cheers,
