What a hair raising experience I was in a 5 on 5 dogfight, Camels vs. our DVII's Sent the top most Camel down in smoke then had a look round Everyone seemed in good shape 'cept the wingie with a Camel on his tail Rolled over and plunged to the rescue ...hopefully in time! Pulled out slightly below him and came at his Starboard side He saw me coming and countered by rolling over the top of me Hauled back trying to Immelmann onto his tail Barrol rolled of the top in his direction and ...then it happened There he was exactlty opposite and above me, both of us looking into each other's cockpits Both in a CCW barrol roll at about a 30 deg dive angle Down we went, neither giving up the roll, round and round we went Using TrackIR to look straight up, I couldn't see any of my crate, just the plan view of the Camel The background flashed rythmically, blue, brown, blue, brown, on & on Worse yet, he ws gaining the advantage, I was sliding forward in the spiral I looked down on his twin Vickers and could see the slit of his cowl opening, my cockpit was equal to his prop Tried desparately to widen the spiral and slow down, but the controls were nearly at their limit in the roll Slid back even with him but forward again on the next go-around Redoubled my efforts and finally started sliding back Got behind him and he made a break Had a close shot and drilled him with a long burst between the top wings Smoke billowed out and he broke into a spiral down The end was anti-climatic as the chase was the exiliarating part Felt sorrow for the fellow as he was quite talented "Come on back up, let's do that again!" Finally snapped out of it and got back to the business at hand ...but that was the wildest 6 spirals imaginable Not quite a rolling scissors, but a harrowing experience nontheless

Lots of head on kamikazes?

Not only does he have nerves of ice cold steel, but he can outshoot you on the way there My best technique is to dive slightly to one side then curve back into him Happy Hunting, -

In all the excitement I forgot to check Must have been though He was too good! -
Venator, I had the same problem recently on scramble 4 of us vs. every Camel in the RFC We got clobbered right outta the gate but I managed to fight on In the end, I guesstimated I got 8 of em, but ...no claim form! :angry2: It's due to an old leftover from cfs3 If you lose your whole flight, cfs3 declares "Goals Completed" The message is top center of your screen, if you have messages turned on All data recording stops at this point so no credit for anything A real bummer, and because you only lose the whole flight on the wildest missions ...so that's when it happens! Doesn't happen on every occasion though Good Luck!

carrick, what's the rating of your squadron I find when I fly elite, the wingies act much as you describe, aggressive poachers I'm flying Jasta 35 now, average, and they're usually fighting more defensively against their own opponents Trouble is they get shot down more often and you end up alone I was surrounded by 5 Se5's the other day and would love to have had a poacher then

Good show Check 6! Olham informed that Amazon uk will have "The Red Baron" on sale in September http://www.amazon.co.uk/Red-Baron-DVD-Tom%...7012&sr=1-1 I plan on ordering TRB and Aces High too then I think they're both Region 2 If it doesn't work on the DVD player, the computer should handle it ...I think -
Great vid Homeboy Keep them coming, they're quite informative My wingovers seem to be a combination of both the manuevers you demonstarted I pull up real hard, almost vertical, but don't wait for the stall Using a little rudder from the beginning but lay on full rudder at the top Probably a very sloppy wingover but still a fast reversal I'll give your instructions a try in Free Flight

Are you a hunter or a shooter ?

Part of the immersive factor is the duty to the mission and my comrades Not much of a factor behind our lines as missions are defensive Any may you contact them and drive them off is OK But on an escort mission in enemy territory other factors come into play I turn on my hunter mode and stay high and tight over the bombers Don't seek any action at all, as duty say's protect the bombers But if the AI Bombers turn and fly directly at the HA or other HA appear above Duty requires me to stay put and weather the storm ...that's the fighter's job No choice but to be a Shooter Another example is when a wingie gets in trouble If he's surrounded by 6 HA, I may say it's too much and suicidal But if I spot one at the bottom of the DF with 1 or 2 on his tail I may sacrifice precious altitude to rescue him I really get attached to the baggers, especialy my wingmate As their leader, it's my duty to do my best to accomplish the mission and bring them back Using Hunter or Shooter mode where required -
Salute to you Harry Your battles are over and may you now find rest You've lived through the horror of the trenches and having to bury your family Indeed your sufferings are greater than we can fathom May the good Lord take you into His abode and give you rest now

Are you a hunter or a shooter ?
Duce Lewis replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Tough question; I guess I see myself as a Shooter who's turning into a Hunter BHH is changing me, can't survive long as a Shooter over the lines But on my own turf I'm still the Shooter -

It looks like a simple fairing to blend the wing to the fusalage Good aerodynamic performance and all that Maybe some structural support too -
You guys amaze me! The research and detailed replications are beyond comprehensiom Hats off to the OFF Team

Perfect ground attack technique, if you ask me Made 1 pass, hit hard, & split before the defenses could get organized We could learn alot from this guy Check 6, that's a F4U Corsair he attacked 1st -
Quite right ...sneaking in at the last minute to poach victories from A Flight ... well ....it's, it's ...it's not like they don't deserve it ...right?

I popped my DP DVD back in to check this out Unfortunately, it got stuck in the drawer ...so I had to watch the whole thing :whistling: The Leader text stated that it's the RFC France 1915 Maybe that's when the book was based on, and there weren't enough early crates to make a movie Doesn't bother me as the plot/storyline works anywhere 1915-18 anyways The N.28 MG's raise some interesting questions These N.28's are no doubt part of the 600 that the US purchased at wars end Part of the specification was that the Lewis MG's be replaced with an American model Did the specification change the mounting arrangement to the duel cowl mount? I doubt it, as there's ammo and belt boxes to consider, and the Nupe doesn't have a lot of extra space The top wing MG looks pure Hollywood and nothing like a Lewis The drum fed Lewis is the only practical option as the thin wing has no space for ammo belts Took a close look t the Hun crates too Definately post war 2 seaters, but what, I have no idea I saw a cover over the front cockpit in one of the shots Most interesting shot was in Flynn's final battle with Von Richter The 3 Huns are diving on his tail and he pulls the snappiest little barrel roll Hope the Devs take a look at that when they're working up the FM for the N.28 Lot of FM questions on NACA specs, Pilot reports, etc. Dawn Patrol and Hell's Angels have original planes with original motors and pilots They deserve a good look -

carrick, The Brits are flying Nieuport 28's ...probably simulating Camels The German kite dropping the Boots on the Brit Aerodrome is a Fok DVII Not sure what the German kites are when Flynn & Niven attack their AF They look like post war substitutes -
It's a Fokker DVI Think it was a real preformer but not built in large numbers I'm amazed that the model can make it off the ground The prop is hardly any bigger than the cowling

I said usually, but last night they came through It was a balloon buster, A Flight leading high and forward Enroute we tangled with about 4 Se's and mopped them up Reforming, we were now in the lead but still low Approaching the balloon, 6 more Se's approached Not only looking at the HA, but back up at A Flight, wondering 'will they back me up' A Flight was quite close so I chanced it, diving on the balloon Well, the Se's were just too fast in the dive so I called the break and we turned into them For a few moments the Se's were everywhere but then A Flight dove in We were giving them a good rippin ...then the Se's B Flight arrived
