  1. Which would you choose?

    1) Buy TrackIR 2) Use your twisty stick as rudder 3) Let family & inlaws buy the beer
  2. Phase 4

Can the Graphics be updated to include a variable FOV? Currently cfs3 only allows a zoom function that is just not up to the task WS Monitors are becoming the norm and could certainly handle the job TH2G is expensive and a Large Monitor/HD TV expands vertically as well as horizontally
  3. Which DM do you use

I've never tried any option other than the standard Normal Think I'll try out Hardcore and Forty's Intermediate now though
  4. Phase 4

This might boost immersion If your pilot gets wounded, he remains unplayable for a period of time (ex. If he's wounded for 21 days, he's unplayable for a week) There could be further variation; He could contract a stapf infection during that week and either increase his hospitalization time or succumb to the infection His wounds might be deemed too severe and he's given a medical discharge or further rehabilitation

  6. I saw this on a Funeral Bulletin for a Fireman Touched my heart and I thought it worth sharing Fireman's Prayer When I'm called to duty, God wherever flames my rage, give me strength to save some life whatever it's age. Help me embrace a little child before it's too late or save an older person from the horror of that fate. Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout and quickly and effectively to put the fire out. I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me, to guard my every neighbor and protect his property. And if according to your will I have to lose my life, please bless with your protecting hand my children and my wife AMEN Brought back thoughts of 9/11 Lest we forget!

  9. Best choice for F/F joystick?

I've owned 4 different Joysticks, 3 of them FFB For my money the MS Sidewinder is the best of the lot It's got a stall shudder that can't be matched and it's rugged as a truck Other sticks have more programmability, Throttles etc But my 1st HOTAS unit had it's gears wear out The slick programmable one (non FFB) was a limp noodle and led to overcorrecting And the low cost one gave a stall shudder halfway through the 1st tumble Sidewinders are rare but occaionally they'll pop-up New in Box too $$$$$$ Wish I bought it straight out though, then I could've saved on the other 3 In the end it's all personal preference IMO there's no perfect stick out there It's all up to what compromises are suitable for you My recommendation is to scan the on-line sites for product reviews If you find a few you like, post back here for some feedback on them HTH,
  10. Learning curve is flattening out

Sounds good, I've never flown FSX so I was unaware of the training option Happy Hunting,
  11. Out of fuel

I warp alot and never had this problem A nice little feature of OFF is that performce varies with fuel load I set up 50% extra fuel for missions behind our lines 100% extra when crossing over the front Good balance between performance and safety As Pol said, it's good idea to advance waypoints (Shift+W) or even abort the mission as circumstances require Happy Hunting,
  12. Phase 4

I'll 2nd that thought for sure I've taken some time away recently Man, it's like opening your birthday presents all over again!
  13. Learning curve is flattening out

Just exactly what kind of job do you have? ...are they hiring? But seriously, you might have better luck learning the peds in OFF I find WWI crates require more rudder to fly Use Free Flight in QC HTH,
  14. Archie reared his li'l head on me tonight We bounced a flight of Spads (4 on 5) retuning from a CAP Coming down on their 6, they split, 3 left & 2 right The flight had ended up on my left during the turn and dive They took the 3 on the left and I went for the pair on the right Set up for a crossing shot Let the leader pass & lined up his m8 Blast it all as I botched the shot completely Whipped up & right into a wingover, hot after him Lost him in the middle of the turn but spotted him coming out, 1 O'Clock low Just as I was kicking rudder ...Bam!!! a red ball off fire Flames streamed back ...& he just rolled off into a dive But a split second to comprehend it, easng back on the stick & flashing over Wow, what immersion! Archie can rear his ugly heasd so surprizingly ...for good or bad btw. We dusted em good too Got all 5 w/o loss
  15. Movie with a lot of real RFC a/c

    Very nice Thanks for sharing
  16. I think the devs did a good job remodeling Archie for P3 I haven't changed it from whatever default setting it sets up with Been hit occasionally, about 10% of my pilot losses I'd say
  17. Phase 4

Great ideas all! Here's my wishlist 1) I agree on the Claims Form We should be able to claim any amout we want however incorrect Also it would be nice to be ble to claim ballons on any mission not just Ballon Busters 2) Create a fixed zoom for the in-game map Short missions like scrambles are so zoomed in it's useless Not needed for navigation but when shot-up it'd be nice to know where the nearest airfield is 3) Add rail lines and railroad traffic to the game ...sorry, I know this is a biggie 4) Add some Good Luck variability to Strike missions Currently, all crates, oil drums are evenly spaced out for minimum damage risk It would be nice to catch them unloading a train with crates all stacked at railside before dispersment Or maybe a lazy corporal who hasn't done his dispersing job very well Kinda like the Amercan Divebombers arriving over the Japanese Fleet at Midway with no fighter protection ...woohoo! 5) Revise the FM Options Beginner (For newbies) Realistic (for the DiD guys) Enhanced (like P2, for guys who like wild aerobatics) 6) Gothas, Handley Pages, Zepplins, Salmson, and the Nieuport 28 7) Have the skinners create options for modifying the default AC for each squadron Stripes/Patterns (Wing Nose Tail, Fus), Symbols (Skull, Coat of Arms, Letters), Wheel Color & Patterns Player would be able to add more features as he advances in the squad Germans would have a lot of options, Brits very little Plane would look very much like a period crate Great to have a real opportunity to make suggestions Thanks,
  18. Getting the feel of BHH hasn't been exactly smooth for me I've had sparse playing time and P2 tactics just don't seem to work anymore I've always taken on all comers and loved duking it out, even with 3:1 odds A few rules; stay high, fight from the outside in, keep your energy up was all I needed Now the front line has real significance, AI is much improved and work in tandem, my beloved DVII doesn't rule the sky vertically anymore Even deadsticks aren't as easy as they used to be All added up, I've left a lot of pilots on the wrong side of the lines, captured or in canvas coffins Tonight I was assigned a Close Air Support Mission 15 miles behind enemy lines I lead with a flight of 5 (D7's), Ace flight follows with 3, and we meet 3 Hannovers to bomb French airfields Gulp ...time to start thinking up a new name Well, we took off, formed up, and spotted the CIII's Didn't get through our orbits when 2 Spad's started to dive on B Flight Decision time, the Hannovers break towards the front and there're Dr1's nearby Shift W a few times and we're off following the Hannovers It hurts to leave B Flight but there was really no good decision to make Closing on the airfields, 6 Spads show up, 1 O'Clock low New strategy; Stick with the bombers and try to avoid them Two of the Hannovers break right and the 3rd continues on straight Argh, tough to let him go but we stay with the larger group The Spads are climbing fast and no-doubt will be on the Hannovers soon We break right curving over the top of them Assigned targets as fast as I could and sent the boys down Followed in and made several passes, trying to drive the Spads down Finally latched on to 1 and poured in lead till he lurched and spun down Still had a lot of height and returned to the target to see what remained of our formation The boys did a great job, shooting down or driving the Spads off And 1...2...3, the Hannovers are all still there But wait there's 1 more Spad moving towards the CIII's! 1st instinct was to dive on him But he's low over one of the target airfields (flak gardens) and the Hannovers are above him Changed tactics and flew over the CIII's, watching the Spad closely Eventually the Spad made his move, climbing on the CII's over open terrain Nose down and 1 screaming pass sends him down smoking Zoom climbed and I'm over the Hannovers again 2 Wingies remaining As we form for the return trip, 2 more Spads show up heading right for us We climb on the approach and make a slicing attack on them The Spads manuerver pretty well at 1st, but 1 long burst sends 1 running The wingies team up on the 2nd It was beautiful to watch their tactics from above Tempted to join the fray but why expose myself when they have the situation well in hand Return trip was uneventful Think I've formulated a new set of tactics when flying behind enemy lines Stay high ...then fly a little higher Don't worry about victories, just drive them down and off Perform the duty required for the mission and save the heroics for our side of the lines Avoid conflict that is not required for the mission Think before you act, there's usually more than 1 method of attack, choose the safer Time will tell if these tactics work out I just pulled up my next mission ...Close Air Support behind enemy lines Cheers,

  20. Finally beat the odds!

I've noticed that AI have nerves of steel on those head-on attacks ...or maybe silicon I just lost a 6 hr bloke when I zigged to avoid a head-on with 1 Spad, only to have another 1 kamikazi into me Can you program some 17 hr desire into them too?
  21. Have to smile .....

Well, let's hope that's what they're doing Until then I'm back up on the fence and waiting ...might get a little crowded up here
  22. Have to smile .....

The fastest way to kill a bad product is with good advertising I can understand their desire to eliminate piracy It's their product and they want to protect it But the answer isn't to place annoying restrictions on honest paying customers Hope they get this sorted out
  23. Have to smile .....

When FE came out I was intrigued But it seemed to be rushed with much less detail than OFF There were only a few planes and if you wanted more, you had to buy them I sat on the fence for a while but eventually decided there just wasn't enough there or anything that OFF wasn't supplying already ROF looks to be in a similar situation now Very few planes and some quirky log-on requirements I will admit, the eye candy and DM look to be top notch though Back up on the fence again It's good to see that FE's progressing with mods, etc I might take a 2nd look But how can a sim with heavy modder input remain balanced? I wonder if DH2's will outperform DVII's because that modder got a little crazy with the FM One of OFF's greatest advantages is that the whole biiiiig package was researched, created, tested, & tweaked by 1 team It sure is nice to be able to sit back and wait until they produce something that meets my needs ...thanks Devs! And I'm also sure that the FE/ROF devotees are benefitting from all this too Their Devs undoubtedly have copies of BHH, saying, how can we improve on this? In the end, we the consumers are the winners ...why fight each other???
  24. FOV

To expand on this thought a little I have a WS Monitor that can rotate 90 Deg to Portrait View I've often thought that 3 Portrait Monitors would be great for TH2G Has anyone tried this?
