Bristol Fighter in Flight
Duce Lewis replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Looking forward to it UK And for realism, might I suggest... Just put the Biff in the middle with a bunch of Hun crates milling about out of firing range ...with no clue how to successfully attack her -
Great relate there Jammer Yep they're beautiful ...and sneaky ...sneaky li'l buggers!

Over Flanders Fields Between Heaven and Hell The Prayer (Video)
Duce Lewis replied to Jammer28's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Great work Jammer I feel like I should have paid an admission fee -
Do you have a WWI movie idea?
Duce Lewis replied to Rickitycrate's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Now there's a really good idea I'll econd that vote -
It seems that the print is personalized to a specific location, the AF Museum If it was just a printed inscription, I would think it would have a more general message Think you have a nice treasure there either way

I haven't been around much lately You see, my Dad is responsible for placing flags on veteran's graves in our town I've been busy the last 2 weeks updating all the check lists It's sad how many vets we lose in a year Dad & his American Legion buddies do most of the flag planting but I manage to get out on several search missions too I've always made it my goal to find at least 1 new Revolutionary War Vet each year Tomorrow's our last day and we've got about 5 vets to find yet ...they hide It wasn't looking good, not gonna be any new Rev War Vets this time I took a break and started googling this guys name ...he's a possiblity Philo Holbrook, he passed away April 1, 1813, Age 56 JACKPOT!!! It turns out a very dedicated lady in the next town has been researching cemetaries in the local 7 town area She doesn't even live here anymore She moved to Georgia but still loves her hometown area Pictures and all ...the 1 above came from her website (that's 1 of our flags in the background) Hmmph, only 1 Revolutionary War Vet ...there's probably a dozen! And she posted the 1934 Hale Inscription too They don't list the headstone names alphebetically but as they appear along each row Now I'll be able to find illegeable names by counting back from names I can read Time to get out my flashlights and statrt running around cemetaries at night again Woohooooo!!! Oh, and that Memorial Day Gift I mentioned in the title ...it's the freedom and security that these heroes, and those fighting for freedom all over the world, have sacrificed to give to us Thanks for letting me share,

CJ, I'm sure your local Post would love to have you They're probably understaffed as it is Sadly, some localities have stopped placing flags all together And Stumpy, sorry for bolixing your name up earlier Thank you sir for your service

Over Flanders Fields Between Heaven and Hell-The War to End All Wars-(video)
Duce Lewis replied to Jammer28's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Absolutely fantastic Jammer! The aerial shots were great and those RL pics at the end really brought the mood of the day out Well donre soldier -
Thanks Bullet, gwar, Tony, We got it done yesterday All the veterans got there flags ...even Philo for the 1st tim in many years gwar, You remind me of my father Can't tell you how many times I have heard "Put that screwdriver in straight" We use a large Philips Head screwdriver to create a hole for the flag It's diameter is slightly smaller than the flag shank and if you push it to the hilt, the depth is just right Thanks for the flag placemnt info Unfortunately cemetary flags have 1 big nemesis ...lawnmowers We clean up broken, stained flags all the time Our placement approach is a lttle pragmatic because of this We try to plant them out of the lawnmowers main path Cheers all Happy Memorial Day,

Winder, Pol, may we have one of these please?
Duce Lewis replied to Cameljockey's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
It's a 2 winged propped taildragger ...ipsofactso it must be from WWI By those wing markings, I'd say it's from the Chek Republic Great find CJ, she'll make a great addition! -
Great news Winder! Thanks for the continued efforts Will there be a "Suggestions for P4 Thread" like before P3? It sure felt good to be given a chance to offer suggestions to this great sim I'm sure you guyts could use a few good laughs too Cheers,

One of the ongoing themes of Flyboys was the racial tension surrounding the black pilot, Eugene Skinner Early on, the son of a rich man, Brandt Lowry refuses to bunk with Skinner Later Skinner saves Lowry's life and he has some thinking to do He pulls out some rare scotch that he'd lifted from his old man and goes to Skinner, hat in hand I found this scene quite believable and it illustrates a basic truth Life is more important than race, social standing ...pretty much any earthly thing They both had a common need, survival, that forces them to overcome their differences/animosities Now if Lowry had survived, would he have married a black woman or courted a bevy of black friends Not likely as racism runs deep and can take generations to heal But I'm sure Lowry would never have looked at a black man the same again The rush to judgement wold not be so quick because he had personally experienced a black man of superior skill and courage As a 20 victory Ace I'm sure Stachel must have saved his squadmates many times Think of the scrapes that he and Willi must have gotten into in their Triplanes ...and how they covered each others tail and fought their way home Such experiences build comeraderie Sadly Blue Max never gets beyond the Social Status issue Stachel's squadmates spurn him regardless of their common need for mutual support How do you attain the cohesivness required for seamleess cooperation in the air if you won't even talk to each other on the ground? Stachels only verbage was arguments with his CO and verbal duels with Willi Then on top of it, he steals Ursula from Willi Pretty brassy (and stupid) to steal the girl of the guy who's watching your back in the air I purchased Flyboys at the same time as The Blue Max and watched them on the same day Maybe that's why the difference in squadron comeraderie really jumped out at me I found myself thinking "say something" every time Stachel and his Lurch squadmates got together I'm sure social status was far more important in a turn of the century monarchy than it is today But as I said Life surely supersedes Social Standing I'd find it far more believable if the General or Adjutant couldn't get over the class warfare issues Their lives didn't depend upon Stachel's Many here like Blue Max and really dislike Flyboys But IMHO, Flyboys got it right on the ground and Blue Max got it right in the air Cheers, btw. great debate guys!

Salute! Maybe we can add a wreath to the ordinance list If so, I'd slip over and drop it on your aerodrome Fine work man!
-
I'm sure there were class tensions in a royal monarchy government/society But Stachel shows up and imediately demands a D7 instead of a Pfalz As a mere greenhorn, he antagonized the 2 top aces, disobeyed commands in the air Finally, he seduces the General's wife In all this time, he says not word 1 to his squadmates Peasant or Kaiser Wihelm's son, he was acting like a jerk In Vietnam, at the height of racial tensions, black & white soldiers had no trouble sharing a foxhole In a way it may have done its part in the healing of racial unrest How long would Stachel last in the air if he etablished no bonds with his squadmates? Far better if they had shown how the comeraderie of war bonded people of different classes together Upturned noses turn to upturned glasses in the pub after a harrowing patrol Cheers,

Hats off to OBD software!
Duce Lewis replied to Slick Wilhelm's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hi Slick, Wecome to OFF Sounds like you're hooked already Here's a link to the Dev Team on the OFF website http://www.overflandersfields.com/Dev%20Team.htm Cheers, -
Thanks tt but I have The Blue Max already I agree, the flying scenes are excellent D7's Pfalz's, & a few Triplanes all painted in generic camo There were only 1 or 2 Se5's and the rest Tiger Moths for the Brits But they did an excellent job using the Se's for all the close-ups and just filling the background with the Moths The grounds scenes in Blue Max were pretty bad though Aside from his obvious battles with the squadron commnder and his Ace nemesis, I don't think Stachel conversed with any of his squadmates They just stood around and stared at him much like Lurch in the photo Olham posted a couple days ago ...Hey, maybe this was accurate depiction after all I'm putting high hopes on Hells Angels though Real WWI craft, filmed in-air not computerized And Howard Hughes was a real pilot so I'm thinking there's agood chance for accuracy Or maybe I'm just building my hopes up again

I bought the collectors addition of the Flyboys DVD The little extras and discussions with the filmakers shed some light on what they were trying to do The movie was outwardly based on the Laf Esq, correct planes, black pilot, lion mascot, etc. But the characters were based on the 94th Aero Squadron, Lufbery leading, Rickenbacker, Luke This explains some of the weird scenes in the movie A new crew of flight school grads show up and you give them your best brand new planes??? Assign your best pilot the perilous job as their squad lead without any other experienced flight leaders??? Sadly, each story is worthy of a movie of its own Nieup 17's vs Alb II's or Nieup 28's vs Triplanes if you want They even built the Nieup 17's just for the movie So it wasn't a matter of just using whatever crates were available Hollywood tried to squash 2 stories into 1 and ended up with an unbelievable one I agree the flight scenes were awful, vertical Nieups, the Zepplin mobbed by Dr1's, the pistol scene where the villain got his due ...could got on forever here But Flyboys did have some good points The training scenes seemed very authentic The comeraderie of the squadmates And I just loved Lucienne as Rawlings love interest But best of all was just to see WWI crates in flight The search goes on for a really great WWI movie I have Dawn Patrol and Hell's Angels on order now And hopefully Der Rote Baron will get released here someday Cheers,

In Flanders Fields Zwischen Himmel und Hell_Jasta_19 (video)
Duce Lewis replied to Jammer28's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Another great one Jammer I agree with Hauksbee, music and it's timing is outstanding! -
Sounds like you have 2 problems there If you want to abort a mission, hit Shift + W as many times as needed to advance to the next waypoint(s) I never use Shift + Q to exit If the Esc then End Flight doesn't work, you may have an install problem You can try reseting OFF in Workshops but you'll lose all your pilots, etc. HTH,

What is your Fighter Pilot personality?
Duce Lewis replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
#1 goal is to accomplish the mission I try to avoid combat enroute to the target but then I'm looking for a scrap homeward bound However, if the enemy gets the advantage, the mission gets abandoned, then just try to fight our way home I'll take on up to 2:1 odds directly Anything greater than that then I'll try to stalk the prey Turn away, go for altitude, look for help, then bounce them In the end, my goal is a good scrap Had a good representative mission tonight It was a balloon buster with 4 wingies (D7's) 2 Camels popped up high just as we approache the target Was going to fight through them when 4 more popped up behind them 6:5 odds, they've got a big height advantage, and they're between us and the balloon ...not good Angled off to port about 20 Deg, away from the 4 Camels and outside the 2 Camel formation It worked somewhat, the 4 flew on, then the 2 Camels dove on us Targeted the balloon and set 2 wingies after it then led the other 2 after the Camels They weren't much trouble as we chased them down to ground level The wingies got 1 and I sent the other down with an engine fire, pouring smoke Looked over and the balloon was in flames too ...Great no losses either Formed up and headed home Crossing over the lines 4 Biffs showed up and bounced us Spoiled our day but good too! I got 2 and a belly full of lead Flight was totally scattered and I limped over our trenches and found a field Can't wait to do it again!
