About aust3298

  1. DM: just right after 1.28?

Thanks Winder, good idea for the optional DM. Here's to the future and to the past and all the fun provided by OBD.
  2. Sopwith Camel the Widowmaker

Same here Ttiger, Camel is my favorite. I agree the OFF version of "Camel quirky" is probably tame to what I have read. I think once a pilot had lived through the training and became somewhat profficient with the Camel, the ultra quick, diving right turn became an invaluable combat maneuver. I think Winder and Co. came closer to the quirkiness with the DR1 which I also love to fly in combat. Ain't we lucky to have this baby of a WWI flight sim jewel.
  3. OFF P3 Current status

Winder, I just wanted to add my thanks to you, Pol and the rest of the crew for an excellent Sim and for many many hours of fun, immersion and time travel. I have played the game since Phase 1 and have been impressed with each improvement/addition. There are no WWI Sims to compare with BHAH. However, I must agree with Creaghorn in his post above. I am blown away by the improvements to BHAH since its orginal form, but I think kills are too easy since 1.26 (player guns on normal, all others on realistic and hard, 130 realism). It certainly does not spoil the game at all and it is no easier (probably harder) to survive. Its just that my overall impression is that it is easy to down an E/A now whereas before (in 1.2 & 1.25) it was only occasionally easy interspaced with those enemy that I could hardly even follow much less get a hit. Again, I mean these comments to take nothing from the overall appreciation of such a work as BHAH. I think BHAH is a singularity in the gaming world, your Opus Magnum (at least so far).
  4. CW3SF, I use crabbing and slip-sliding all the time when trying to maintain formation with Flight leader and mates. Also use and is very useful when landing to reduce speed. I use slipping and crabbing in combat, especially when flying against slower craft (some two-seaters and damaged fighters). This could also be used to counteract wind when/if applicable.
  5. Patch 1.26 observations and comments

Winder, Pol and Co., I have been away for 5 days and I am blown away by the improvements in the flight models in 1.26 & hotfix. I especially love the way you have tweaked the Camel and the DR1. These are now the quirky, on-the-edge planes that I read about and have always imagined them to be. I have not flown them all, but really like the different feel of the various craft... easy and docile for the Pup but still deadly, a wrestling match with the DR1 and Camel. I have no problem with the Sopwith Tripe, but for those guys who felt it difficult to fly, try the DR1. Now there is one that has to be flown actively at all times but I think will prove to be one of my favorites just because of the capabilities. Anyhow, I love it. I fly at 130 realism with AI guns on realistic and mine on hard and feel the balance is about right. Thanks for stropping the edge of an already sharp razor. Excellent, excellent Sim done the way they should be... difficult, beautiful and completely immersive.
