Hello Luiz, if you mean this short stopping, and then jumping on instead of the smooth gameplay this is probably due to your graphic card being much faster than the rest - however i wonder where there would be the bottleneck with your machine lol. You can edit the CFS3.XML (in the OFF default folder), there is an entry which should be changed from "0" to e.g. "30". See here: "Kill stutter by setting max fps" http://www.com-central.net/index.php?name=...topic&t=118 Maybe your problem is related to this (?) Good luck, Catfish

Non-recoverable spins reconsidered...
Wels replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hello, as Winder said you are able to recover from every spin in OFF, enough altitude presumed, with every plane. It is more difficult with some planes, because the behaviour differs from plane to plane. In some spins you even have to add rudder to the direction of spinning, to get out - with others just letting the stick lose will stop it. All spins have in common you need altitude to get out .. Greetings, Catfish -
O/T What happened to the forums at SimHQ?
Wels replied to Cameljockey's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hello, no idea, i de-registered yesterday because of some issues with the RoF online model and the admins obviously heavily supporting this, but i swear i have not done anything else lol. Maybe one has to log-in now to see any SimHQ sub forum at all ? Greetings, Catfish -
Hello, i have reset a lot of graphic settings due to a new processor, but now the framerate (with the faster proc.) is bader than ever. So i reconfigured the graphic setting from workshop, but i still get only 7-8 fps. After restarting the pc i found the OFF graphic settings habe been changed, so i again reset them according to the manual at the OFF homepage. Again no go, some 8-12 fps, and the settings have again changed when restarting the sim. Maybe i should write-protect some files, but honestly - what is going on here ? Thanks and greetings, Catfish

Hello, good to see it works UKWidowmaker ! But there may be another explanation i found here: http://www.com-central.net/index.php?name=...topic&t=118 Too fast graphic cards can cause the sim to stutter, spoiling smooth movement with a sudden stop, and then moving on. According to this manual this might be due to the "rest" of the computer, which is slower than the graphic card, and has to catch up with the fast card, pumping data too slowly. This can be changed in the CFS3.xml file, setting minimal fps to 30, rather than the default 0. But when it already works Greetings, Catfish

Hi Catch, thanks, well i may have found out what was going on - changing settings of my graphic card from XP system settings caused OFF to sense a change, and now finally after starting the sim and a mission i had an upcoming message that my "graphic settings are out of date" - never saw this before ! So clicking at the "graphic options" button in the workshop once more i changed the settings, and now they remained changed. FPS again up to 13 in furballs over aerodromes, but much better elsewhere. Thanks and greetings, Catfish

Hello Macklroy, and TheMightyscr, with adjusting the graphic card i meant you can adjust your video card via system settings in XP, and Vista. E.g with an nvidia graphic card there is program where you can "tell" the card how to behave generally, and in special applications. E.g. you can set the card to 2x antialiasing for desktop and Word, but to 8x when starting OFF and so on. You can tell the card to behave different in all kinds of applications, and adjust it for OFF that way. See the other threads of how to tweak it - Further settings: Start the sim, go to workshop, start "graphic options", this will start the "cfs3config.exe" (which b.t.w. you can also start directly from the OFF folder of your installation), and you have to accept every changed setting with "OK" to save it. When the CFS3config window is up, click at "File" and then "change display" to set up the sim resolution, and Antialiasing. AA will not show up after changing, but it will work - cfs3 bug. When clicking "ok" the original window will appear again. If you click on "File", and then on "custom settings" (say OK to the upcoming warning) you can adjust the Image quality - those sliders. If you click on "File", "custom settings", and now "window" (upper left), you will see a new menu with "overrides", "texture info" and some more. Clicking at the appropriate menu entry you can adjust some more settings - but be careful and read the FAQs along with the threads here at the forum. Hope this helps, thanks and greetings, Catfish

Hello, first thanks for posting, but the settings Rabu presented here gave me a return of 4 fps and an unplayable sim. Must be a negative peak record lol. Resetting the cfs3config.exe to standard made it better - and it seems this is due to the "texture info" settings - changing them brought down the fps heavily. Will look for a better graphic card, however with the wrong settings even a nvidia 280gt will perform very badly. It is really strange, sometimes the sim works just great, but at another time without changing anything the fps are suddenly down to below 10. This cfs3config.exe along with the possible adjusting of the graphic card is really unsatisfactorily in CFS3. My guess is it has something to do with astrology - don't play the next 5 days after a full moon, and under no circumstance think of squirrels while starting the sim - or wait, was it a rhinoceros ? Greetings, Catfish

Hello Winder, thanks for answering, i guess my "problems" have more to do with my own combat flying capabilities rather than real issues lol Greetings, Catfish
-
Hello, i'd say graphic settings yes, because you can trim your graphic card to perform better with OFF, but concerning plane behaviour and effectiveness of all kinds the workshop is the way to go. All other things would have to be done via file editing manually .. Greetings, Catfish

Hello, only flying the E.III, The Halberstadt and the ALb D.II my "experience" is probably not too big, but i have made some observations .. 1. the AA (Archie) from the ground is a bit too exact. 2. the ground AA machine guns are too exact. 3. the rear MG of e.g. the Sopwith strutter is way too exact. 4. the MGs of enemy planes still hit from very large distances, and almost every shot is a hit. 5. main concern my own MG accuracy and evading "tactics" suck badly Hrrm but really, I can say that it has been a big improvement from P2 to P3, those great distance shots are gone. But I still think the enemy's distance hit accuracy still is a bit (!) too good from greater distance, regardless which gun or cannon used. And always beware of those double-rear-MG two seaters, they are deadly. Only chance is attacking almost vertically from above, out of the sun (is this really modelled AI-wise that they do not see you then in time?) with max. dive speed, concentrating on one plane, and then do this well-known manouever #1 of getting the hell out of there (not in the "dicta Boelcke"). Greetings, Catfish

Hello, all nice, but wouldn't it be much better to just have a 4x2 yards screen with a decent beamer ? Greetings, Catfish

Questions for the experienced Camel drivers
Wels replied to Dej's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hello, in OFF, i find the Camel quite easy to fly, good-mooded, well-responding and almost without vicious reactions. There was a very old MS Flight sim (was it #2, or #4 ?) where there was a Camel modelled from original values and computer-calculated behaviour derived from the data. It even had a working showing-glass for oil pressure and had quite a good skin for the time. This one is still THE measure for any Camel in a flight sim, it was definitely vicious already while starting, or trying to. Level flight was not easy at all, it always wanted to break out, or change its course. The nosing to the right and down was vicious because you would not get her level again with the ailerons at all. Counter action with the ailerons made it even worse. Have a look at this and you might get the impression that the OFF's Camel is way too forgiving: Maybe i should be carful what i ask for lol ... Thanks and greetings, Catfish -
Hello, it is here: Greetings, Catfish P.S. should work now ..

Hello, i have used a E6550 Dual proc. with 2.33 GHz on my Asus P5K mainboard with 2 Gb of DDR-2 Ram. After asking at the forum back then i guess it was Parky who said the E8400 would be a good proc., especially as the "E0" version (overclocking possible, but ..). I have finally managed to get a new E0 one, but ... i guess i will have to completely re-install the OS and all my software to get XP working after an exchange ? 2nd question is how would i setup this 3 Ghz proc., if i want to overclock it "mildly" - i take it it is done via BIOS, not jumpers - is there an Asus utility for this ? Thanks and greetings, Catfish

Slightly OT: E8400 proc. setup - Parky ?
Wels replied to Wels's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hello, great Info, thanks all ! I have additionally read some posts over at the Bhah help forum - maybe i should have posted there, i still seem to have some orientation problems at the "new" forum lol. Anyway i have already experienced a much better all-round performance, and even in a furball AND over an airfield it does not drop to below 12 fps now, after tweaking the cfs3config.exe a bit more - and this with a dirt cheap passive-cooled 7300LE for 25 bucks - ok i will see to get a better card next. Happy flying! Catfish -
Slightly OT: E8400 proc. setup - Parky ?
Wels replied to Wels's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hello, ok, it works - thanks all ! Made an update with the utility supplied with the mainboard on CD, completely fuzz-free and fast: Setting to default - read current rom info - compare with new rom update - new file format ok - backup of old Bios - flashing 0 ...100 percent - please reboot. Then i installed the E8400 0E processor, and it was immediatley recognized - phew. Already flew a mission, a bit better, but not much - still framerates around 10-12 during dogfights and above aerodromes. Seems i need another graphic card. The built-in is a MSI 7300 LE (Nvidia geforce chipset) with 512 Mb, passive cooled - not state of the art i suppose. I got an active-cooled 8400 from Gimpy/uncleal a year ago, maybe this will already be better than the current one. If not which graphic card would you try to get - should run OFF well, but should not be too expensive - real SLI does not work on my mainboard anyway (or only with reduced factor), so one good card has to do it. Thanks and greetings, Catfish -
Slightly OT: E8400 proc. setup - Parky ?
Wels replied to Wels's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hello Gremlin, i tried the classic way, set bios to default values, made a 3.5" disk with the exectuable and the the new *.rom file, and booted the PC via floppy A:, so i get the blinking A: and look via "dir" - all files there, ok. It does not work. It keeps telling me to enter "afudos /i<filename>.rom", but the exe file has another name, and it does not work with THAT name either. Needless to say i had to install a 3.5" drive to even try this, get the right cable etc. etc. . Gawd. I will read chapter 4 of the mainboard manual and waste another 3 hours Thanks and greetings, Catfish -

Slightly OT: E8400 proc. setup - Parky ?
Wels replied to Wels's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hello, first thanks for you tips and suggestions - However i have a problem. The PC does not work with the new processor. With the new processor, switching on the PC, the keyboard lights flash, the speaker beeps one time as usual, but then there is only the Asus start screen appearing, suggesting to press "Del" etc. to enter the Bios, and that's it. The keyboard works, but when i press "Del" nothing happens. I am neither able to enter the Bios, nor does the PC start. It just keeps showing me the Asus start screen, which is usually shown for 5 seconds or so, before the PC starts the boot procedure. The PC was not overclocked before, or now, or anything, and i did finally take out the mainboard battery and reset the Bios via jumper. But no go, i again do not even reach the Bios because nothing happens when i press one of the commands to enter it (like Del etc.). Re-installed the old proc. again, and all works with restored Bios defaults. Hmm, does anyone have a P5K mainboard and knows what's wrong, or does someone have an idea ? Board is Asus P5K rev. 1.02G, Ram is 2x 1Gb Kingston HyperX DDR-2 in both yellow sockets (Dual channel). I have no idea - Thanks and greetings, Catfish -

Hello, thanks very much - you cannot imagine how glad i am not having to re-install all after only two months ... next buy will be a BIG external harddisk for images and backup. Ok, i will exchange the CPU without OC, and then slowly work my way up. I think 3.5 will be ok, just will have to look for a better heatsink. Thanks a lot and greetings, Catfish -
Hello, the dev team already said they will be looking at this, if even later than sooner. Personally i would not fly into clouds without artificial horizon instruments, and WW pilots also tried to avoid it. However it was done now and then, without always losing the pilot. Richthofen said he would not fly into any thunderstorm again with the exception of a direct order from the Kaiser, when he had just survived it. Before the war Geo Chavez had crossed the Alps, and was badly thrown up and down with the fall winds, but he made it. Against public belief his plane did not break up, and it was that flight that made Pégoud try his manoeuvering with rolls and loopings, which proved the planes to be more sturdy than people had thought. I would tone the effect down in a way that it is still there, but the plane will not necessarily be destroyed by those winds alone .. Greetings, Catfish

Hello Pol, " ... Turbulance in clouds cause you to spin oddly or violently without warning, even fly upwards etc Wels - avoid clouds. Also hitting other craft ... " Yes, i know that - however with the Pfalz i just overdid the turn, so it stalled and began spinning in this strange way. I was not in acloud, was not hit by AA guns, nor did i ram another plane. This jerking around happened after a stall and i have not seen this before. Greetings, Catfish
