La Brayelle is usually described as 'west of Douai', and the Brayelles airfield in the game does seem more south of Douai, located west of Cambrai as you say. So I would say you are probably correct, but what do I know?. Hopefully Shredward will give you a reply as he is the Pro at this historical stuff.

It should have little benefit as far as the quality of the image on the screen...higher FPS will always look smoother than low FPS so capping the FPS isn't ever going to make on-screen movement smoother. Basically, you cap the frame rate to tell the computer 'Hey, don't work so hard giving me 60 FPS, because my human brain can only see 30 FPS.' The theory is that the computer will then use the 'saved resources' for more important things, like giving the AI pilots more 'brainpower'. I tried capping the FPS a while back in the hopes that my TrackIR 'blue jaggies' would be reduced. Made it worse so I am now of the opinion that capping FPS has little benefit on my system.

There are numerous copies of viewui and if you don't edit the right one there will be no effect I believe you need to edit the copy found in c:/documents and settings/(user name)/Application data/microsoft/cfsww1 Over Flanders Fields. Try that. If that doesn't work, you can experiment with the `4 additional copies of viewui found within the various OFF folders (windoes search will find them for you)

There is no minimum FPS setting because your machine just can't do more FPS than it is physically capable of.

A good bet that the OFF team will just add Creaghorn's file into the soon-to-be-released superpatch :)

How do i get the TAC to recognise that I have overflown a waypoint?
77Scout replied to JimAttrill's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Actually there are no scripted events or spawns in OFF. This was one of the major improvements from Phase 2 to Phase 3. All AI flights are in flight in real time throughout the mission. Nothing appears out of thin air just because of where you fly. -
Must I mark specific targets for wingmen in dogfight?
77Scout replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I never assign a target, just press 'A' and my wingmen seem to attack just fine. With a larger flight maybe you need to press 'A' multiple times? You've gotta be flight leader, but I am sure you already know that of course. -
Doesn't SP3 include some kind of core-affinity upgrade that makes multi-core processors work better? I seem to recall that, so probably give SP3 a try first.

On my key-card shift-S is called 'Select Payload'. I have no idea what it actually does. Regardless, "Space bar" = 'select next weapon' is the one needed for bombs, as already stated.

You guys rock, as usual :fans:

Shot down 2, but no witnesses, I'll take it.
77Scout replied to Mr. Lucky's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
When I am alone (no flying witnesses) but near an airfield or obs balloon as you said, I try putting some two-word phrase into the witness box, like "observation balloon", "ground troops", or "airfield personnel", based on a posting long ago by Winder that it was not necessary to put exact AI flier's names in, just put 'something' in the witness box. I seldom live long enough to get confirmation so not sure if this really works, but worth a try...better than just giving up the claim. -
What does it do? I Googled it but see no basic explaination of what does for you...what feedback are you getting? Curious. Ooops, OlPaint answered while I was typing. Thanks!

I recall (vaguely) someone suggesting it has to do with the prop being so close to the pilot (versus WW2 planes, which CSF3 expects) and somehow that makes it not show (??). Regardless of the cause it is probably hard coded, so might be a long wait for that to be tweaked, if ever.

I don't think so. AFAIK, the OFF Manager has absolutely no idea who the witnesses are, because CSF3 reports nothing of the kind back to the OFF manager. That is the reason the player must fill in the witness info...its basically the 'honour system'. The player's input is the only way witness info can get into the game.

Sorry if this is a know issue that I have missed but... Getting many missions lately where I seem to get credited for way less than full mission time. My last campaign mission, for example showed, as 36 minutes on my log and at the debrief window (which seemed way low), but then running the 'mission review' I see a mission time at landing of 58 minutes (which seems correct). Seems to be a mismatch there. This is all playing full DID with no warp or other funny stuff, just flying in real time. This has happen several times that I have noticed lately, but sometimes the times do match up so it isn't a consistent thing. Any ideas? Anyone else getting the same thing happening? If its just me then I will try a re-install.

Thanks Jimko...nice to know it isn't just me. Guess I will just monitor this and see if there is a pattern to it that I can report on.

Oooo, Pol you are such a tease!! Hints...we need more hints!! Yah, I know...we ain't gonna get any, heh heh. I think the claims system is like a woman ... most of us will never understand what makes it tick. p.s. Never get the idea we don't like the claims thing...we just love a mystery, thats all.

Some people will tell you that you have to have all sorts of accurate info in the witness box, but I am pretty sure that is all fancifull thinking. I doubt there are lines of code doing fancy text-parsing and comparisons to squad files, plus Winder hinted a long time back that it doesn't really matter what you put in for a witness as long as there is 'something' entered. So putting in 'my wingman', 'flight leader', 'ground observers', or 'Santa Clause' as a witness is probably just as likely to get you a confirmation as entering the correct name of someone in your flight. Same goes for the notion that you must have accurate info on lat. and long. of your kills, the name of the nearby town, etc, or the idea that the OFF Manager has the capability to actually 'read' the player's reports, understand them, and determine their accuracy. Although I am sure Winder is more than capable of writing the hundreds (thousands?) of lines of code that would be needed to make the OFF Manager that smart, I am betting he hasn't had the time. Of course this is all me just guessing. Only the OFF team knows how it really works, and they aren't telling.
-
Thanks. Yep, I have heard that postulated in the past as well, but don't personally think it is true. Anyway, on my last mission this definately didn't happen...I was never even close to the ground except right at takeoff and landing.

Trying to reinstall OFF3 and seeing something weird now.
77Scout replied to jack72's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Actually, it is not necessary to delete Phase 2 as the Phase 3 installer is smart enought to install over it, or do a bare install as necessary. Installing Phase 3 would not make your old download folder re-appear so I suspect it was maybe never deleted in the first place?? Is your install working...if so, maybe you have no worries? -
Intersesting info Uncleal. Has the team confirmed that as fact? I would be surprised that Winder would not account for that in his algorythms but it could easily be, considering there were probably a thousand more important things to code in the OFF manager at the time. So if true, then you can never be hospitalized for a wound in the air, is that right? The only time you get a hospital stay is if you crash the plane? So what are the length of the hospital stays based on...just random? Obvoiusly it would be nice if air wounds had an effect (maybe in OFF Phase 56 as Pol says, heh heh). I liked the old RB3D wound deal were the screen would fade reddish in-and-out with a wound and you had to land quick or sometimes die from loss of blood etc.

You simply set the key assignments within the 'hotkeys' tab (accessed when editting the TrackIR profile) within TrackIR, click OK, and they should work fine and stay 'stuck'. Unplugging the joystick shouldn't have anything to do with it. I unplug mine all the time and the TrackIR key assignments work fine when the stick is plugged back in again.

I would guess that your FOV settings should not affect how far over the side you can lean, as it doesn't (AFAIK) affect the limits of your head position.

Knights of the Sky series
77Scout replied to Broadside uda Barn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I believe the 17 hour figure is typically quoted in relation to 'Bloody April' of 1917 and refers to the typical British pilot (primarily the hapless two-seater crews ), who the Germans were downing in doves at the time due to the superiority (mainly numerical) of the Albatros fighters. Basically the 17 hour figure was as bad as it got, but would not necessarily be applicable to other times/places/air-services during the war, hence the quoting of various statistics that even if they vary from one another, may all still be correct for a given situation/time-period.
