  1. New to Hat in the Ring

The new content in HitR is of course summarized nicely on the OFF website ...http://www.overflandersfields.com/Addon1.htm if your graphics have gone fuzzy, something must have gotten screwed up with your computer ... never heard that complaint from anyone else that i can recall. Didn't happen to me. Graphics are as clear as ever.
  2. I recall a long tome back a few people reporting their plane would go out of control exiting warp, and it was traced to the use of auto-trim. I don't know if it is a universal thing or just a quirk that some people get and others don't (I don't use auto-trim or warp) ... perhaps others know and can report.
  3. Campaign on youtube

Nothing beats labels and the TAC for turning the experience of flying a first class WW1 simulator into the experience of playing Nintendo.
  4. funky bridges

I don't think that will be the problem, as I have the same 'bridge-popping' issue but have a stock OFF install ... no downloaded textures of any kind.
  5. funky bridges

I also have the same 'bridges popping through the clouds' issue, but have no idea what the cause or cure is.
  6. All I can say is review the install procedure on the back of the DVD ... it is dead simple. It says put the DVD in the drive and click the "OverFlandersFieldsV1.0" file and follow the instructions. Nothing more is required. Yep, it worked fine for me. As I mentioned, the installer checks to see if CSF3 is installed or not and acts appropriately, exactly as Winder explained to us all here on the forum back when Phase 3 was first issued.
  7. Generally, OFF has not required a pre-install of CSF3 since back in the days of Phase 2. The install instructions on the back of my BHaH DVD case makes no mention of pre-installing CSF3. That's because the OFF install program is now smart enough check if CSF3 is installed, and if it isn't, to ask for the CSF3 disks and get the required files directly from them at the appropriate time. That said, there shouldn't be any problem if you have pre-installed CSF3 like in the old days. I just mention it here since Olham is having problems getting his install to work, so maybe try not preinstalling CSF3 and see if that works better (?). Its a long shot, but you never know, given how flukey computers can be sometimes.
  8. New FM mod is in the works

JSGME is great, and thanks HPW for formated your FM/DM files to work with it. It saves a lot of grief.
  9. I Am Mystified..

I think more step-by-step info on what you are doing and seeing is going to be needed. Does the BHaH install process seem to run its full course? Assuming yes, when you double-click the shortcut to start the game what happens?...just nothing? Are there error messages?
  10. My God This Game Is Hard ! LOL

If you are using the hat switch in 'snap' mode you will have little hope of seeing anything, as the directions you can look are limited. If you use it in 'panning' mode you can look in any direction...similar to having TrackIR but requiring a lot more skill because moving your thumb is not as natural as just moving your head. If you get very good at panning with the hat switch you can track enemies through twists and turns almost as good as with TrackIR, but after TrackIR you will never go back.
  11. Thoughts on Gaming

The state of gaming is, in my mind, a pretty sad affair. We really haven't advanced much in 20 years other than better graphics. Its mostly scripted storey-lines and linear game play, with little replay value. Thanks God we have a few enlightened companies making games like our beloved OFF, that are open ended, unscripted, and never the same way twice no matter how many times you play. Capt. Sopwith, if you get tired of the 'run and gun' arcade stuff, you might look into ARMA2 for a more realistic infantry combat experience...it is more of an infantry simulator that a game.
  12. New FM mod is in the works

    Thanks HPW! Got it.
  13. 'Mission Review' report

Regarding AA settings, I recall the developers mentioning way back that the easy setting uses older 'semi-broken' parameters for AA from earlier phases of the game. I recall, therefore, that flak bursts on 'easy' are rather randomly aimed and you can't very well spot enemy and friendly planes by looking for the telltale flak. I don't use the 'easy' setting so maybe somneone who does can confirm if this is still the case, as my memory is not necessarily to be trusted. On Medium and heavy settings, you definately can spot planes by looking for flak bursts. Very useful if you are flying full-realism and not using cheats (oops, I mean visual aids:grin: ) like the TAC.
  14. 'Mission Review' report

I use it quite a bit, primarily because I fly using paper maps. After some missions I am curious to see where the heck I actually flew, especially if I got lost at some point.
  15. Welcome. I see that you are a smart fellow and figure things out quickly, so you will fit right in (grin).
  16. Wow, what a great collection. Thanks for sharing!
  17. Your description of the problem is a bit confusing, but if you mean that the view is 'panning' instead of 'snapping', the toggle key between these modes is 'scroll-lock'.
  18. My new Camel!

Yes, the tulip emblem is great, and as already said by others, looks very historically believable in my opinion. Nice job!
  19. British-eh, thanks for all your and Bletchley's hard work on this. I am looking forward to having a 'go' at it the new system with my latest campaign. I quite like the bullet loadout recommendations as they cut back on unrealistic numbers of kills in a given mission.
  20. Same for me. It will make the air combat more historically correct, plus until we have this there will be be no way to realistically implement a true accounting of squadron members deaths (which is also a much desired feature). As stated by others, as it is now your original squad mates would typically be all dead within an unrealistically short time span. It all comes down to creating an impression that your squad mates are real and that protecting them matters.
  21. New FM mod is in the works

    Yes, that sounds very good.
  22. Yes, the current replay feature is a bit crude, but it sure beats what we had before (which was nothing, heh heh). Nevertheless, there are lots of things that could be polished a bit more if Winder ever has the time and inclination to enhance it. Here is a couple of my personal suggestions. I would like the replay to consolidate/eliminate repetitive entries...having to cycle through "bombs damaged crates", "bombs damaged crates", "bombs damaged crates" up to thirty times in a row is a bit tedious. I would also like the 'dot' showing where your plane is now to be a unique color (say blue) so you can follow it within the mass of red dots that trace out where you have been.
  23. Realistic Survival Settings

from http://combatace.com/topic/59799-new-sia-rss-april-1917-february-1918/page__p__447149__hl__rss__fromsearch__1?do=findComment&comment=447149 My question to UK_Widowmaker: The weather settings (clouds, lightning, sea state etc) have me lost...I don't know were in the game settings to find any of this. His Answer: With regards to the Weather, if you select Persistent Weather Stats (PWS) in the Workshop Settings, you will see, as the Mission loads, the PWS page come up. It will tell you what you are likely to experience in the Mission weather. If you see the Heavy Clouds, Lighting- Heavy, etc, as per the note in the SIA - RSS then you may elect to skip the mission, or be aware that the mission might be a no - go if it's raining. It's a heads up to let you know what's coming. From October until April, in most of the War years, the weather was crap and more than 35 % of their missions were scrubbed.
  24. Actually I would say this community IS small and tight knit, and I certainly don't think it is populated with folks who don't give others credit for their work. I don't see how the earlier conversation in this thread seemingly lead to the opposite conclusion.
