hi flyby, there are no spawns during campaigns. the enemy patrols and twoseaters you can meet anywhere or nowhere. they are not related to any flightroute because they have own flightroutes and missions which might be near you or many miles somewhere else. that is one of the great features of the campaign systems. unlike in most other sims you are not the bellybutton of the world where enemies and everything else is built around you and with the only purpose to meet you. you are just one small part with your mission and all AI patrols have their own missions. and if you meet them, that's coincidence. it might happen that somewhere else, miles away from you there occure dogfights with friendly and enemy patrols while you are somewhere completely else. that's something the devs have mentioned a lot of times, and also when the campaign mission loads you can see the message that spawns are disabled. so nothing related to your mission

for some time i used voice command with stuff like "contact" and "anwerfen" for starting the engine and all other apropriate startup commands. that's probably barmy enough. but then i stopped it because of the occasional strange look of my wive .

Congrats, Simon

thanks for your compilation. just wanted to mention that mikael carlson is no german but from sweden and that he used the normal english "contact", so unfortunately nothing of it is germanrelated, nor did the germans in WW1 use the term "contact" but rather "anwerfen".

Procrastinating from OFF (I'm afraid of DEATH!)

marriage and children slowly turn an athletic shape into an undefinable mass of meat. i'm glad my hair isn't slowly falling off to complete the picture ...oh, wait a minute, there is a hair...there another...oh nooooooooo... -
Procrastinating from OFF (I'm afraid of DEATH!)
Creaghorn replied to Javito1986's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
no, the zombies etc. are just part of it. mostly it's the music, the camera angles, the story, the sounds, the overall unvisible and dangerous atmosphere in it and the sudden appearing scary moments (and i always jump from my seat, even if i played the game before and i know it's going to come lol). in sports maybe you learn how to focus, but i would never compare a sportsgame with something which might cost your real life. and every football coach or whoever, who said that beeing in sports is like beeing in a war, has never been in a war. otherwise they wouldn't talk crap like that. it's rather different, in important situations in sports i calm myself down in remembering that we are just adults, playing a childrens game, while there are REAL important situations in the world, like doctors who in the same moment are doing brain surgeries or something really important and dangerous. soldiers who fight for freedom or are protecting freedom etc. on the other hand you are right, when you say that many aces tried to see the aerial warfare as a kind of macabre game. probably also a way to stay calm. -
Procrastinating from OFF (I'm afraid of DEATH!)

i know that feeling too well. but mostly i know that feeling when i played the various "resident evil" games on play station. that was so scary and exhausting every time, that after a while i had to save the game and play some sportsgame or something, knowing that's a game where nobody is going to be scared to death and nobody is dying . and later when i wanted to continue resident evil, i hesitated here and there and doing lot of other stuff as an excuse before finally continueing to play. with BHAH you simply have to go on and on and on without thinking too much about him. if you have a cautious flying attitude anyway, then there is no difference if it's hour 1 or hour 500 in the air. there shouldn't be a difference in the cautious approach anyway because the life of the pilot does not begin with his first sortie, but has begun about 20 years ago. the problem is rather when you get tense because exactly then happen accidents like collisions and landing accidents etc. that happened in the past so often that guys in the forum, who picked the 17h mark as the goal, shortly before or after reaching it died stupidly in collisions etc. and some even accused the devs to have built in something which makes further progress after 17h impossible lol. i compare it a bit with a close baseballgame in late innings. many people tend to get more tense in later innings, be it hitting or especially fielding. and many people especially then strike out or make errors, simply because they start to think too much instead of doing the same what they did all game before. same principal IMO. -
yes. and so is croatia . the biggest difference about croatia and germany is, that in germany when there are one or two days of nice weather announced, the people immediately have to plane those days for barbeque, going to zoo, visit this and that, desperately trying to exploit those days as good as possible. while in mediterranean countries one never thinks about the weather because it's always hot and sunny. you simply after waking up open the window and the hot sun gives you an immediate uppercut

i think it's very important to keep your inner child alive. that's prevents you from getting old, at least mindwise. i agree that having a child with 30+ isn't bad. on one hand you have the seriousnes and maturity to be a role model for your kid and keep cool in many situations, on the other hand your are still (at least if you are like me) young and childish enough to see everything through childrens eyes. one good example i experienced some months ago when i was in a mall (i always sneek into the toy sections while my wive is looking for the important stuff lol). there was a young boy, maybe 10 years old and his father, maybe late 30ies. the boy went directly to a shelf saying: "boaa, optimus prime!!! cool!". and his dad answered without any emotions that he should rather pick one of the other (unofficial) transforming toys on the other side because they look more robust. i heard that and just thought, you old fool of a father. that's not just a toy for this boy. that's optimus prime, the leader of the transformers. and he should also get megatron to have his villain. maybe also starscream etc. to slowly get his transformers world toghether. but instead you offer him some unofficial fictional transformers-wannabe without a storyline etc. just because it looks more robust. the difference was my look through the eyes of a child, and his look through the eyes of a father who has lost this children eyes or never had.

just finished the book "mein lieber hans". it's not a book per se but a compilation of letters the mother of Hans Hinsch had sent to him while he served in WW1 (first as an engineer, then twoseater pilot and then as a scoutpilot in jasta 11 under MvR. he fell in mid 1917 with 3 confirmed victories). very interesting facts, because it reveals not a certain view of an author but simply the intim written conversations between a mother and his son who is in war. so no false glorifying or romance aviation blah but very personal views and facts about the situation at home and the normal life and friends and family. how in the beginning the parents sent stuff like marmelade and chocolate and socks etc. to him, and later in the war he had to send food and cloths etc. to his family because they were starving at home. one thing the letters also reveal is how a big superstar MvR was in the minds of the public at home. hans's family was so proud their son was allowed to join the great richthofen etc. but what makes me wonder is that at one point hans gets promoted to leutnant. his mother writes him that there is a leutnants sabre in a certain shop, badges and uniform pants in this shop etc. so did they really had to buy the stuff to get recognized as leutnant by themselves? did they really only get the official paper to be a leutnant, but everything else was the leutnants own business?

Barmy Films Presents - HPWs Ultimate Damage Model Overview
Creaghorn replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
nice vid hellshade . as mentioned in the other thread, the DM works best with gun spread set to normal, not accurate or less accurate. -
Brand new DM and FM now ready!
Creaghorn replied to Herr Prop-Wasche's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
hello all, i'm back and have to do some catchup reading as it seems. maybe i missed it or HPW forgot to mention. his newest DM was tested and works best when gunspread is set to normal, not wide nor accurate. if leaving bullet spread on wide, then it might happen that you see slowly dying flamers etc. not with bullet spread set on normal. so please, if trying out and commenting, then with bullet spread set to normal. that is giving the best and most realistic results. p.s. the bullet strengths file is actually not a "mod", i was just tweaking with impact figures, setting them lower. my feeling is that if the impact damage is reduced (similarly to bletchleys reduced flak impact), then the bullet won't parasite from the agility of you or AI so much. nonetheless when a thresholdvalue is reached, then something severe happens. maybe just placebo, but that's my impression. the main mod is HPW's DM and please use normal gun spread. -
Try Dialing Down Shadows Rather Than Disabling Them Completely
Creaghorn replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
short and bit offtopic question, what would happen if i raise the Max Model LOD to higher than 100 and the shadow size and budget of object and AC? would the detailed AC be visible further away (instead of turning less detailed the further away it is) and the shadows still be visible from further away? i'm asking because shadows are IMO one important factor to give you a realistic feel for height. when you look down and see shadows, it feels more real, almost real enough to get airsick, compared to see the landscape without shadows lol. would be great if all terrain parts would have shadows, but that would probably eat too much recources. -
P4 DEVELOPMENT SCREENSHOTS Discussion

just wanted to express once more how dead on the landscape in the pics are. i'm living in southern germany, and the enviroment and landscape is pretty much the same as northern france. when i'm on the road i often catch myself looking at the landscape with OFF eyes and i'm amazed how accurate it all looks. the trees, the random fields, the colours, the hazes and fog layers, the houses and villages. especially in dull weather. it's no deal to create an enviroment to look like some random place with some green fields and rivers etc like in most other sims. but to make it look like northern france, so that you look at it and know that it must be northern france if you wouldn't know, and not canada or nebraska or northern germany etc., that's the true art-form created by the devs. -

actually, there shouldn't be a wingmen named at all. there weren't wingmen in ww1. that was invented due to the experiences of the legion condor in the spanish civil war that one had an official wingman. in ww1 of course there were teams who liked to fly together more than with others, but without beeing officially wingmen. i think this wingmen thingy in OFF is rather a CFS3 leftover. in ww1 if you fly alone with another mate very often, you weren't his wingman, nor was he yours. you just flew together, although the protecting behaviour could be the same. but the term wingman belongs to ww2, not ww1 AFAIK

File Name: Improved Effectstrailersmoke File Submitter: Creaghorn File Submitted: 06 August 2010 File Category: Modding Tools and Add-on Software the previous posted no-tracer and withtracer effectfiles work quite well, but the trailersmoke effect file (the version where the bullets leave a trail of white smoke behind) was too unvisible. JFM was so kind to send me a picture of Rudolph Berthold shooting trailersmoke bullets, thank you JFM! they are indeed very white and rather good visible. so i created an improved version of the effectfile where it matches the look in the pic quite good. it also takes a bit longer to fade away. for anybody who wants to try it, here is the improved effectfile ready for download. please first copy the original effectfile and paste it somewhere on your rig where it's save. then copy this effect version and paste it into C:\OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields it's not an own creation though. i combined an existing OBD file with Rabu's version of smoketrail and tweaked it a bit. so credit should go to them. Hellshade was so kind to make a short vid, so everybody can take a look at it before trying. please note that no matter which HD version you look at, youtube vids always have a loss of quality, so it's best to watch it fullscreen. in the sim it looks much better of course. here it is thank you hellshade! (btw. the last seconds are very breathtaking. good job) original content are owned by OBD. have fun creaghorn Click here to download this file

Improved Effectstrailersmoke
Creaghorn replied to Creaghorn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - File Announcements
sorry, must have missed your post. did i understand correctly? you fly with the se5 and have tracers, then you fly fokker DVII and there are no tracers? that shouldn't be like that. usually the mod automatically stands for all sides and all sorts of guns from you and AI. it would be cool if it could be seperated that some have tracers, others not at the same time, but unfortunately it isn't like that. does it work now or do you still have this problem? -
you might try an older driver. from own experience i know that the newest drivers are not always the best. better to say, my driver is now 3 years old and every newer driver i tried gave problems with clouds or shimmering and made it worse instead of better. i have a nvidia gtx260 oc, and since you also have nvidia i would suggest for you to try older drivers. no need to lower clouds from 5 because they usually have no impact. @uncleal it's not a known fact because it's not true that only on 5 AI can't see through clouds. the difference between clouds on 5 and lower is not the beauty but just the sheer amount of clouds. also on 3 AI can not see through clouds. but the clouds are more rare, or at least the layers responsible for their blindness, that's why the chance for them to not seeing you is less often.

What Side Do You Fly For and Why?
Creaghorn replied to Dave's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
that's great and about the same attitude as i have. IMO one can only really enjoy and appreciate a campaign when it's long lasting and when you know your mates, lose one after another slowly and when you are involved in history by experiencing all the major events and battles etc. i have always only one campaign at a time and invest all the focus on him and his life and story, trying to survive as long as possible doing the duty. so to say rather than to romantize the aerial warfare of WW1 (which often and easily happens in sims) i try to get the anti-war feel like really beeing in a place where you rather would not like to be. in a war with small chance of survival with all the horrors and fears. like somebody of the era who is involved because politicians decided to war against each other, not because it's "cool" to have dogfights etc. what you call "cowardish" style is rather how it was in real. nobody would jeopardize his real life only because it's cool to try to fight against 5 enemies. it's not cowardish but just doing your job while more than that trying to survive, and going into the really life-dangerous situations just as long as necessary. i think even frank luke or voss in his last flight misinterpreted the situation and the odds, otherwise they would have left the area much sooner. the picture of the joyfull talking pilot and the knighthood blah was often the public picture because in those times nobody would admit openly to be scared to death. inside their four rooms they have been very old, youn men, possibly drunks with nightmares every night and the 1000 yards stare. and without the band of brothers they experienced, and the credit they mostly experienced after the wars, they would end as poor old broken veterans. oh, and mostly i fly the german side. currently i have a british campaign going. -
