  1. Wind Buffeting..question please?

same here. i looked at every single feature in WS to not miss anything new. still only now after siggi mentioned where to look at i found that sudden death deactivate thingy. sometimes one can't see the forest because there are too many trees
  2. HITR First Impressions

as long as i found out AI tries very hard to stay above you and keep the height. he's not running to the desk anymore. his movements seem to be less starwarsish. looks really good and more like original footage and less cgi hollywood. additionally with the buffeting it's hard to get a good shot at him. i love it. downside might be, they don't turn very tight and early to get you anymore after passing them. that might give the impression they are not as aggressive as before. maybe it only looks like because he tries to stay higher and the dogfights are more taking place in high altitude, and both abilities to turnfight are more affected because of thinner air.
  3. i really like the buffering. now it really feels how it should. you had to get close to the enemy because the target simply always runs out of your gunsight. otherwise you'll shoot around him a lot. that's much more realistic. try it, you'll get use to it. also the landings are more challenging. in real half the victims were due to accidents, especially in landings. IMHO the buffering is a hughe step forward
  4. HITR First Impressions

i downloaded it, installed it, everything went perfectly. i'm very impressed by the buffeting effect. that's exactly what i was waiting for. now landing and aiming and flying itself is much more realistic and more fun. very exellent job.wow. first i tried some QC. this sudden death is still there as long as i found out. then i jumped into my campaign and two things i found out. i run into a bunch if nieuports, but they haven't been very agressive. was rather easy to outturn them and shoot the enemy down. after that i did not get a claimform though the replay said i shot him down. maybe just a coincidence since that with the claimform happened to others before. nonetheless i tried a QC against an ace but he also wasn't aggressive. it had more of the lack of agressivenes of RB3d. did you reduce the attackmode of AI or was it just coincidentally that i run into a bunch of rookies? since i know that AI of QC isn't quite good anyway i won't take it as a measurement.
  5. Look at this!

if it is as i hope it is, that would be really awesome. IMHO the best feature in this new addon, even better than own AC. @devs please confirm it. pleeeaaase
  6. Look at this!

i'm also wondering what that means. i use the current windeffect and i like it. my question is, does the new buffeting effect makes the FM permanently more dynamic, so you're experiencing more swings and small floatings (which would be great), which makes aiming tougher? i compare it like somebody standing upright in a small boat with a rifle aiming for something. the small movements of the boat and the freehanded aiming make shooting much harder. or is it more like it is now, just more often. with permanently more dynamic i mean an effect, similar to the current incloud effect, just of course slower and softer, which would emulate normal turbulences during normal flight with a wood and canvas crate in the air. that would be awesome
  7. Movie and Book to occupy my time

all that "I'm better than you" is in men's instincts. especially in males instincts. the need to conquer etc. that's the reason why there are sports nowadays. a sport where one can't win or lose is no sport. that's a good substitute for wars where one clan doesn't need to slaughter another clan just to show they are superior. competition is in humans nature. everbody knows that the grass on his side is always greener than the grass on the neighbour village. one village is always rival to the next. one town always rival to the next bigger town in the area. one country rival to the next country etc.
  8. Silly pics of yourself

no, my bosse s name was Tony Barracuda. but everywhere he was just known as Slick
  9. OT....Important Questions

hmm. good questions, why are noses running and feet smelling? if our knees would be backwards, how would the chairs look like? why don't they build aircrafts from the same material as the blackbox? if today it's 0 degrees and tomorrow it's twice as cold. how cold is it? bread with butter always fells on the butterside. cats always land on their toes. what would happen if you strap a butterbread on the back of the cat? if you would travel in a spaceship with lightspeed, what would happen if you turn on the lights? got to stop now. my head hursts...
  10. Silly pics of yourself

seems he fell victim to the spanish flu?
  13. for all who want to have a much more immersive german campaign! i altered the "newspaper" file and added many more reports for the years 1916 to 1918. all additional reports are original from the german "Heeresbericht". Now you'll get the exactly same news on the apropriate days as the people in germany had at the time. for every report there is a apropriate picture included about what happens or about whom. now you can, while you have your campaign, take part of the rises and falls of the german aces, read lot more reports and pics about the big battles, speeches of the kaiser and hindenburg etc., political happenings of the time, stats etc. i used only the heeresbericht about the western front, all other fronts i left out. all custom news are still there (sigh, i even corrected the custom news appearing on 31. of some months wich you haven't seen yet anyway because the manager goes only to the 30.). so as a german pilot i'll read almost daily the heeresbericht and every now and then the news of the allies (custom news) which i get from prisoners. you'll take not only for instance take part of the small message about boelckes death, but take part of his rise, his death, his funeral, what the enemy had to say about him etc. all the additional reports are in german, but i think even for nongerman speakers who fly for germany it will add a lot of immersion because it's simply nice to look at. for everybody who wants to use it, please follow the instructions and of course backup your custom files first. it's really easy. this pics file you have to extract somewhere and copy all pics from the folder and drop it into C:\Programme\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\campaigns\CampaignData\News\Pictures if it asks you to overwrite something, just go ahead. the following three files you simply drop into C:\Programme\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\campaigns\CampaignData\News please first backup the originals. that's it. i tested it and now i'm even more part of this world, have a feel what's happening on the battleground, feeling sorry for the poor chaps, for the fellow pilots... i thought about doing the same for the allied news, but i haven't found anywhere any daily or at least weekly news. all files i altered (besides some pics i added) belong to OBD and the devs. have fun
  14. AI starts this yo yo behaviour at about 200 feet height or maybe apropriate higher when over trees. then he fells into this death spirale where he tries to gain height, evade, attack and all that stuff ant once till he dies. earlier craft more than later ones. above this height he acts really well. how about tricking the AI FM and lowering his parameter for ground sensing for about 100-150 feet? so his "ground" wouldn't be at 0 as it is now but at maybe -150 feet. then he would be at 100 feet height, but thinks he's still at about 300 feet and keeps acting well. the borderline where he starts to fly stupid should be decreased to just some feet above the ground, not 200 as it is now. so he would still avoid hitting the ground, but still act dangerous though beeing low, because he "thinks" he's at about 200+ feet. dunno how hard it would be to change but it also might be a simple change of figures.
  15. paintball was exactly the example i had in mind. playing "lasergotcha" you'll do stupid things because it won't harm you and you would not die. doesn't even hurt to get hit. in paintball you'll try better because getting hit at least hurts a little bit. having street and housefights with real guns against serbians invading your country and property, you'll do completely different because it's no game and you can die. somebody is out there who tries to kill you and vice versa. i must say that i try to emulate the third scenario as much as i can in BHAH, because that gives me the satisfaction of "realism". if i want to hunt in sake of the hunt, i'll do quick flight. it's NOT running away but it's avoiding stupid things in disadvantage you wouldn't do in RL. and my hope is that for campaigns the goal of realism is to have it like that. BHAH's philosophy is about realism all the way, so IMHO it shouldn't be made purposly more arcadish and easy just to not get bored. that's what's QF is for IMO. the first steps in the direction are made with the "flight density" setting. next step would be the smartness of AI to retreat. although i don't know how to prevent the simmer taking advantage and hunting the easy preys down. one thing i noticed is when AI has a strafing mission they are not aggressive against you. When you shoot at them the will evade you as usual, afterwards theyl'll continue their task. something like that might be used for the AI that after a while the mission task is "go home", making him evade when attacked, but flying home when attack stops. same for your AI, maybe with a message wich appears "retreat", so that you know your wingmen are going to retreat and you should follow and regroup again. maybe with managed consequences after the mission because you disobeyed the order if you still go after the enemy. something like that.
  16. it was hell of work to do that. (first to learn the pattern of the programm and to have perfect lines, with lot of trial and error to get it right) but i could do that. all i need is some source of daily news from the allied POV, and i haven't found anything yet. to find some reports about big happenings which is written afterwards is not the point. i need some source where daily is mentioned what happened on the day before without knowing the future. e.g. 14. may 1917: yesterday the army of blah blah tried a brakethrough at blahblah and succeeded in gaining 300 meters ground. 120 prisoners were taken. cpt. ball succeeded in shooting down his 40th victim. 17.may 1917: the germans made a counterattack, but without success. casualties so far 4000 germans... leutenant bishop shot down his 6th aircraft... (all fictious now of course. just to tell you my point what i'm looking for) by the way i have to mention that the allies relatively late started to mention fighterpilots in the news by name. mccudden had 30-40 kills and nobody at home new his name, besides his hometown maybe. the philosophy of crediting aces in newspapers, making them famous was more a german one. at least to midwar.
  17. i really love the scenerie in BHAH, especially when looking straight down, the scenerie looks the most real. also this surreal feeling rickitycrate mentioned i like. on the other hand, i didn't have too many games with photorealism so i can't tell if it's good for a game or not. but when looking at Conradb's picture of the albatros, i would also love to see a sim wich looks as real as possible. when you look at it the first seconds you don't know is it a real movie or a sim. that reminds me of the baseball games i have. nowadays you have to look at for some seconds to see if it's real or not. really looks like yankeestadium with all that what happens in a game (even with original YES broadcast etc.) when watching it, how the players move, the perfect adapted techniques with motion capturing (where you can see alone from the bodylanguage who it is even without actually seeing his face, and that's great). by the way, finally my yanks have won the ring again and my fav player jeter had one of his best years. i must say that i like those ultrarealistic games. can't imagine why it would harm a game to have it ultrarealistic, especially in a sim. but on the other hand some of you have more experience with ultrarealistic sims and say it's not that good this way. i don't know why but what can i say without having this experience, so obviously you are right.
  18. please don't forget to download the pics in the 2nd post if using the files, otherwise there will be a blank picture in the newspaper.
  19. IMHO AI should be that good that i'm "forced" beeing the majority. one of the ordinary pilots and let the aces be aces. strange thing about sims is one always automatically considers himself beeing part of the ace minority and AI more or less victims. BHAH is on a good way to give the simmer the feeling that I'm not automatically one of the aces when living long enough though it can be improved. if AI is good enough i'll be one usual pilot with a handful kills and the aces can still be admired. the vast majority of pilots who survived the war, did that without ever getting aces status. but they survived and were good enough to survive. beeing a good pilot is not expressed in the number of kills but not getting killed, and that's one of the biggest differences between sims and real. and that should also be the case for AI. some keypoints would improved it. most important, both sides have to retreat after a while because of different reasons. that's the most important thing. in real you had dogfights of 20 aircraft involved at once but only one or two where shot down, IF any. that was the usual dogfight. they did not shoot down 20 down. the usual pilot was 99% busy staying alive, 1% for hunting others, like boxers who in 99% cover their chin and body and 1% for throwing punches because he didn't want to run into a punch himself. in sims it's mostly vice versa. for simmers and AI. it should be that simmer and AI look 99% for staying alive
  20. Very cool WW1 video

very cool. one of the best i've ever seen. i like the fact they're doing real work like everyday instead of posing and staring at the kino-operateur with this new invention, the kinematograph. also those testflights are awesome. one is learning much by only watch real footages like that. when seeing real FE's, i almost forgot how hughe they have been. the last couple seconds (landing sequence) is also one of BHAH's footage, isn't it?
  21. working on an alternate map

sorry, didn't even know if permittet to use it. thank you, waldemar for your great efford. i hope it's ok for you if we use it
  22. working on an alternate map

i saved the posted picture and renamed it to alt_low. then i changed it from jpeg to bitmap. by the way, as a bitmap file it has about 10mb. but when saving as the other bitmap option (254 colours or the other one? i forgot), then it tells you there might be a loss of colours or quality. with the smaller bitmap the file is exactly as big as the default map, but the colours are little bit more psychadelic (in game you'll hardly notice). then i went to the uires file and replaced the original one (made a backup first). then i went into the ww1 scenerie folder and replaced the map. for the beginning only for the two 1917 folders. dunno if all this steps were necessary with the different folders, but it works so far.
