  1. i've seen it, just wanted to share some personal experiences from BHAH and the rules, herr leutnant
  2. The rise and fall of a german ace

you are amazing, olham, thank you for the telegram of von hoeppner and the kind words of friend and rival, MvR. (who's hughe numbers in the same period of time compared to mine really showed what a great pilot he must have been under real life odds) stress is in is first flight about the same as in the last flight. reason is that i treat him like a living pilot who can really die. a real pilot with 0 kills and hours wants to survive at least as much as an ace. in sim-behaviour one might treat his rookie pilot more careless because he's not as worth as a long living pilot. i try not to do that. in emulating real life behaviour one takes the same care for him in the beginning. simply because he wants to survive, with ribbons or without. he has one life. grew for about 20 years with a background, has family, girlfriend, whatever. why should he then treat himself more reckless only because in this stage of live he started beeing a pilot in a war. his life did not begin with the introduction in the officers mess but about 20 years before. reason enough to take care about him from flight 1
  3. meine herren, first of all i'm proud to have the possibility to join our new formed aquadron. the time in the air is going to be tough. a living pilot, doing his duty is 100 times more precious than a dead hero. DICTA BOELCKE 1.Try to secure the upper hand before attacking. If possible, keep the sun behind you. you can only secure upper hand when you avoid getting surprised by the enemy at any costs. so keep your eyes open all the time. don't only look for AA but look for specks. AA is a good aid, but not everywhere everytime. 2.Always continue with an attack you have begun. in my experience it works better to hunt down one enemy at a time (while always keeping your eyes everywhere. very important. no fixation!!!), than spraying bullets around, trying to wound as many enemies as possible. sound unlogical maybe, but this will result in rule 8. you are one part doing your job, not the part who wins the war alone. 3.Only fire at close range, and then only when the opponent is properly in your sights. nothing more to add 4.You should always try to keep your eye on your opponent, and never let yourself be deceived by ruses. ruses in BHAH are for instance the prey, evading your attacks, while other enemies, or even whole flights have time to attack you while you are distracted. eyes everywhere! no fixation!!! ruses are over battlefields or enemy territory when the enemy goes down to low altitude. never follow them. it will only lead you to a hell of bullets from the ground. see the enemy another day. no fixation!!! 5.In any type of attack, it is essential to assail your opponent from behind. when hunting two seaters. try to dance form one side to the other all them time while shooting. if possible, try to kill the gunner first. the enemy gunner has to slowly adjust to your position. works also against bristols. 6.If your opponent dives on you, do not try to get around his attack, but fly to meet it. never ever try to dive away an opponent. if you want to lose altitude to escape, then make hammerheads, immelmanns, let you spin down, do any manouver you can perform. you will eventually lose altitude, but never dive straight, no matter what your instinct says. 7.When over the enemy's lines, never forget your own line of retreat. in small words, know when and where to run when disadvantage. it's better to leave 5 minutes too early than 5 seconds too late! don't wait to the moment you are in disadvantage but try to sense the moment before. listen to your guts. 8.Tip for Squadrons: In principle, it is better to attack in groups of four or six. Avoid two aircraft attacking the same opponent. similar to rule 2. your wingmen will do their job as you will do yours. don't act as protector of everybody. let them do their work, otherwise you will lose. everybody has one opponent. you don't need to assign targets. AI is smart enough to take on the enemy equally. for two seaters. two seaters are for other purposes than for fighting. let your escorte do the fighting. your job is more important. don't get seduced to follow an enemy or to shoot one down. only protect yourself, but don't hunt. if you see your escorte in a furball with enemies, continue your mission. it's their job to keep your back free for you. your job is a different one. don't try to help them. auf eine gute zusammenarbeit, meine herren
  4. The rise and fall of a german ace

thank you all for your kind words. hassewind, i think it's less master piloting but more sense of when momentum shifts and it's time to run away. the other thing is that over friendly territory i don't mind if i have to land. a big advantage when flying for the germans. 40 or 50 hours are a great achievement, especially in later war. no need at all for you to feel insignificant. one thing i experience over and over again, that dicta boelcke is the best key for survival. every single rule.
  5. i'm sure multiplayer is lot of fun. and one day with better online connection i'll try it for sure. but i meant "dynamic" campaign as it is in sp. where you have time progress and random missions and activities like in sp, not scripted "missions"
  6. Great fraps on fire

i just recently tried fraps, and when acitvating it during flying my fps drop to about 5. as soon as i deactivate the recording again it jumps back to normal figures. any idea?
  7. i would suggest jasta 5. it moves from verdun to different areas in flanders and it has every important aicraft besides pfalz.
  8. i would like to. just for some rules. usually there are missions i skip because not realistic, german offensive patrols deep over enemy lines, scrambles against scouts etc. would i have to do them here? or skip them?
  9. wouldn't that be great (phase 20). a real dynamic campaign online with other members. so you make a real campaign as you make now, only with olham and wels, OvS and others on your side, while you might meet coincidentally enemies named siggi and widowmaker and all the other krumpets, doing their real dynamic campaign?
  10. LOL, sometimes a small sting in the lions paw can make him completely harmless...
  11. Windows 7

anybody else has this FFB problem with win7? i'm waiting myself for a copy and losing FFB would be a too costly price for me. i have a saitek evo force.
  12. wow, that's really cool, makai. you live a life i have always dreamt of, but in my case it kept a dream (doing sea related work for living). i love the sea and spend since childhood every single minute at the sea when possible. you're my man
  13. i agree with winder, in real missions were at all altitudes. that's war and it depended what your task was, what orders you received, what you expected to search for, in which altitude your type of aicraft was the best etc. sometimes higher, sometimes lower. i don't understand where the problem is. i'm getting bounced as often as i bounce the enemy. both have it's advantages and disadvantages. it's easier to search the skies than looking for specks underneath you because you have only your wings as blindspots. when searching underneath the whole fuselage is a blindspot, especially when the enemy is sneaking from behind. i like it as it is now
  14. welcome back. was wondering were you've been
  15. interesting topic, my hobbies/jobs baseball, in winter playing rugby with friends, gym and staying in shape (more because necessary for baseball than hobby) brokerage (shares, stocks and stuff like this), hold'em poker generally history, WW1 aviation of course different cultures, religions, POV's writing a novel (great stuff from your son, by the way, wid) diving swimming ancient sailing and history about (british, portugiese, spanish, croatian, venetian, carrabean piracy) ancient japan (samurai and all history about it. of course the swords too. most perfect weapon man had ever built) eating good stuff. i love to eat
  16. Another OFF Immersive Moment

talking about immersion, go into the credits section and listen to the 3rd interview. especially to the latter part when he talks about the dogfight itself. when i saw this glimpse i had to make a pic because i immediately had to think about this interview at that moment. another prove what a great job the devs had done
  17. Campaign Query

hi tanyrhiew, Will I see 60+ aircraft dogfights over Ypres in 1917? Depends how good your rig is and what overall flight density you set. if your rig can handle so many action, the answer is yes. Do you see 100 aircraft scraps starting at ground level and going all the way up to 15,000 feet in 1918? not yet, as long as i know. same answer as above Do the germans stay predominantly over their side of the lines? yes Is morale featured at a squadron level ala Rowan's Flying Corps were a demoralised squadron tended to stay well back from the front and show reluctance when engaging? yes Is the Allied numerical superioty represented in any meaningful way? yes Do you see multi staffel german circus operating together in 1918? not yet. other jastas can join your fight, but more when coincidentally in same area. similar to rb3d Does the AI try to save itself when outmatched? regarding AI. the best you'll ever see so far. some people who saw vids complained the devs used multiplayer as commercial vid. so good is the AI some thought it was controled by humans. regarding scouts saving themselves when outmatched it can (and probably will) be improved. mostly the dogfight is over when one side is swept from the sky. Is it possible to stalk the AI flights ala Mannock/MvR et al? yes. that's what i mostly do
  18. Project Aerodromes

    you guys are really amazing.
  19. i warp, mainly because it regroups my wing again. especially when leaving the area because i'm outnumbered and because of the time nothing happens. i never use airstart. after warping flight 1 is often at the same height in fromt of me, sometimes behind me. sometimes at higher altitude somewhere. i can't say i have an issues with it, though it happens sometimes they disappear, but so do i occasionally when seeing specks
  20. Advice for a first campaign?

hi gromit, you have maybe the best gift of us all here, because you start as a rookie pilot and you are still at the beginning of the learning curve. most people here begin new campaigns beeing already veterans. you can enjoy the thrill and fear only a real rookie has. my advice. treat him really well and use him like you could really lose your life. like you only have ONE chance and ONE precious life and then never again. then you will die soon, as rookies really did, or learn and survive. i would suggest you start fall 1916 for jasta2 if flying german
  21. i must say, since the very last patch, the other flights behave well. at least in my case. i like the fact that all flights are smaller, but there are more different spread around. here some nieups, there some FE's...the chance different squadrons helping each other out is bigger. i also often see formations below me. sometimes without noticing our attack till the very last moment (i usually try to attack from the sun, not sure if AI is blind from the sun or just coincidence). my flight often outnumberes the enemy, but it happens also that we get outnumbered. flight 1 also joins my path even better then before. sometimes it happens they chose another target. but not that often. but the same for me either. if i see some specks which flight 1 didn't see, i sometimes go check and attack them if enemy, so i decided to chose another target. for me it works greatly.
  22. don't know if original. it's from ol red baron3d when you received the PLM. at least from remembering and in the german exe version.
  23. thank you olham, i'm definitely not near beeing one of the best flyers here. when a good AI or more then one are chasing me, i'm probably at least as lost as most people here. what saves me is avoiding getting into disadvantages like that. so SA maybe, flying skill rather not
Wilhelm II. Imperator Rex
  25. my current one has just won the blue max. he has now 24 kills with almost 200h flight. but i won't talk any further because i'm superstitious . more informaton when he's gone
