  1. OT Social Networking gone wrong!

    yeah, facebook connects people lol
  2. Question to our German Friends

it's also interesting that the term "to strafe" is originally a german word and means "to punish". that came from the german pilots strafing allied infantries (gott strafe england - god should punish england). don't know if the allied adopted this word during WW1 or after
  3. Question to our German Friends

first of all i'm not offended at all by any nickname. mostly because i'm no german but croatian. nontheless i have a great affinity to the german side and since i own BHAH i tried only one allied campaign which i quit because it somehow felt wrong or simply because i can't reach the immersive level like in german campaigns. at least not yet. so i consider myself beeing a hun forumwise new york was originally new amsterdam when it was founded. so olham might be right with jan kees or at least that it might have some dutch influence. in germany there is a culture channel (arte) wich is produced by both, german and french. all shows are in french and dubbed or subtitled in german and vice versa. there is a weekly show named karambolage. it shows the little differences about french and german people, habits, words, traditions...i love this show. very informative. in one show they explained the french word boche as meaning holzköpfe, wooden heads. in some early war (napoleonean wars?) the french started to call the germans boche.
  4. absolutley amazing, dej we don't need any WW1 aviation movies. we only need your stories and little bit immersion
  5. that's a good idea and as long as i know there are more out there who do it the same way (siggi?!?). for me that's ultra DiD. something i absolutely admire.
  6. i don't have a solution for your problem. maybe you can put a kind of brush into the sliders, so it might then react tougher. but from the realism POV even the slightest setting is too strong. some A/C didn't even have the dead zone in the middle. you can often see it in old footages the rudder is always kind of shaking or often you can see the rudder dancing around like a fishtail because the pilot is searching for the middle.
  7. hi, as long as i know the FM of the dr1 in BHAH is not capable to perform such a manouver completely. but on the other hand, this manouver is a masterpiece of pilotskill, so if voss did it, it doesn't mean everybody had the skill to perform it. it's not simply you apply rudder and then it snaps around. there are many factors you have to do at the same time at once. maybe it is even possible in this sim and just nobody had the skill yet to perform it, yet properly. so personally i don't mind if doesn't work 100% because i doubt i would be a pilot who would know how to perform it
  8. Roster question

i don't think so. i think as soon as the day is reached the pilot is no longer active. actually even the newspapers knew it the day before and already printed the obituary the night before to announce the aces death at the very same day lol
  9. i would love to use a real map, but since i use warp in a tactical manner (to regroup my flight when seperating from a fight for instance) it wouldn't make sense because i might get thrown out somewhere where i wouldn't have a clou where i am. would be a feeling like a sleepwalker who wakes up in the middle of nowhere. real map will be an option for me as soon as both AI know how to seperate again.
  10. wooohoooooo!!!! (dancingandshootingwithgunsinbothhandsintheair)
  11. Peaved at wingmen

hi firecage, solution is easy. stop thinking you are the bellybutton of the world, like in previous sims, it's that simple. in this sim you are a small, unimportant part of a formation. AI has the same tasks as you have, so do not disturb them doing it. AI won't shoot at you because beeing too aggressive or something. only if you cross their fire while they fight the enemy. so you are disturbing them, not vice versa. you have to have S.A. as you have in the streets when driving your car. in the streets you are also watching what another driver is doing before you turn left. you are not just simply turning and forgetting about all other drivers. same is here. it's not like that anymore, you see an enemy, you attack and don't take care about anything else. your wing probably has the same idea at the same moment as you have. so when you see a chance, make sure you are not disturbing and make sure what's happening around you. trackir is essential for that. SA is as important for own guys as it is for enemies. a thing often forgotten! but even the best of the best died this way.
  12. Germans to the front !

i'll check of course every now and then too. maybe a sticky with a direct link to it? hollywood german is quite funny and it's kind of sweet it's also like that in BHAH (aufmerksamkeit jede...). i don't think in movies they do in on purpose. like in indiana jones or other movies sometimes the german is even quite uber. i noticed the german zeppelin guy and friend of the brits in hell's angels even spoke more dutch than german.
  13. Labels

hi, you were not alone with problems recognizing aircraft. it happened a lot in real too. often they recognized the aircraft by shape in the distance and by cross or cocard when closer, but sometimes even then they didn't realize who was friend or enemy. there was a story when charles nungesser got attacked by one of his allies and he really had to shot the other pilot down because the other dude simply never realized it was him. in the heat of combat it happend occasionally for sure. rickenbacker wrote it happend once or twice to him he realized he was chasing a friend just at the very last moment before he pulled the trigger. as we talk about labels i have a question. as everybody knows labes can be turned on and off in the overrides and in the game. in the distance specks are labeled enemies, when getting closer it shows the aircraft and when close enough, then one can see wich squadron and which pilot if an ace. i never use labels because it simply kills immersion and shows distant specks, who you probably would have had missed, and i love to find specks by myself, not because of bright labels. nontheless i would love to see who my mate is who helped me out or from wich squadron the enemy was. but only from very near distance, otherwise everything invisible. would it be possible to change the setting that the distant labels (enemy, squadron) stay completely invisible, but only the very close label appears. so i still can get surprised or whatever, but only when very close i can identify friend or foe. can the visibility distance can be altered? i know that several things in the tac can be changed, so probably it would be possible to change distance when a label appears and the more distant labels made completely invisible, too.
  14. i think i'm rather good in this game
  15. wether or not something with flight 1 is broken, but i still believe some weeks ago flight 1 left me in the heat of fire because it was led by coward hermann (meier) goering. period!
  16. hi, i can't confirm that. i'm as often higher than the enemy as he is higher than me. i like it to have different altitudes in missions. every alt has it's advantages. the main operation area is always with the assigned altitude. the way towards it and back might vary, but that's ok. it's the same for the enemy. it always depends when of each assigned mission you meet them.
  17. for those who are interested and if the devs agree, here a file wich has more ranks to choose. you can get promoted or start with the rank you want, as usual. simply drop it into CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\campaigns\CampaignData\Pilots folder.
  18. More German ranks

ok guys, you heard it. something is going to go wrong, so please do not use the files i have posted!!!
  19. More German ranks

when i google albrecht v R it's always said, "major" AvR. since he was still active in wartime (no frontservice of course) i assume they promoted him to major, then it was possible to promote his son to rittmeister.
  20. More German ranks

for those who don't want to have Hauptmann, then, Rittmeister, here another file with Hauptmann replaced by Rittmeister. for installlation, please read the first post.
  21. More German ranks

that's what i thought, so no problem and thank you for confirming that. i know all will be in P4, i'm just trying to improve those small things in the meantime. and i think p4 will not be ready too soon
  22. More German ranks

thank you. i tried not to break anything, so i made the last rank with exactly the same ending and lines. i also looked for a way to change the promoting value so one will not be rittmeister withing 4 weeks, but i didn't find it.
  23. More German ranks

i think you're right, hasse. i wanted to add rittmeister because imho it's more assiociated with the leader of a german jasta than hauptmann. i might replace hauptmann with rittmeister instead of beeing the next rank if you (and/or others) wish. though flieger is no rank. if you were a cavallerist and came to the flying unit beeing a leutnant, you usually had still the rank leutnant, though beeing a rookie. can imagine they had some trouble, when a oberleutnant with no kills had to be led by a unteroffizier with 5 kills, or even worse, a rookie who led the formation because he had the higher rank. i know from rickenbackers book that officially a formation was led by the pilot with the highest rank, but as soon as they went into formation, the real leader got to the top and the official leader dropped back. maybe the germans did it similar or they didn't care at all who had wich rank, as a band of brothers. usually, at least in the beginning in german 2 seater squadrons, the gunners or navigators were the important people with the high ranks, while the pilot was only considered beeing the "driver". wondering anyway how MvR could get promoted to rittmeister. he was oberleutnant before and stuck in this rank, because his father was also oberleutnant of the same weapon and traditionally a son could not get a higher rank than his father
  24. Semicolon, the Claims Killer

no hassewind, it's not with van damme. it's with michael dudikoff and chuck norris.
  25. the AI in this sim is absolutely the best i have seen so far. it's so great to watch one AI making evasive moves and the hunter is repeating exactly the same moves to keep on his tail. so great to know there's somebody out there you can't shake. but you are right. only downside is the behaviour when near the ground. i hope too the dev's are going to find a way to make it better. maybe a solution would be to lower the virtual sealevel for some virtual meters, so the AI thinks he is still e.g. 100 meters high, but is just above treetop level and so he still acts "normal".
