  1. offtopic, but i think you mixed things up. you can have all sliders at 5, but you must not have terrain at 5 but at 4 max. there is no visual difference between 4 and 5 besides your rig will blow up within the time. not today but maybe in weeks or months. 5 is for future rigs not invented yet. what you mean to see damage is aircraft resolution, not the slider. slider can be on 5. on each besides terrain. aircraft resolution is in workshop and is responsible to see damage. you should have the middle selection. not high res. back to topic
  2. as far as i have researched, different sources (various non-english wikipedia entries, luftfahrtgeschichte.com...) say the DVIII arrived at about 24.0ct. and the maximum number were 85 at the front. so it might happen to see one in the last 3 weeks of the war. but not too many at once and for too long. but better sources to verify it would be very helpful.
  3. i would love to see it as historical accurate as possible. IMHO if only because in midoctober a single VIII was making a 5 minute testflight 200km away from the front, i would not like to meet whole formations of them over nomandsland, pretending they were there in that period and state it as historical accurate. rather dismissing them and use them only in quickflight. if there were a handful in combat, there should be a handful. but only because somebody wants to see snipes vs. VIIIs (which, by the way would be cool to see) i would not like to stretch the truth. this sim is about historical accuracy. i would also like to see tripes against dr1s, but since they never met i have to do it via quickflight. and so is the snipes and VIIIs. if it's accurate there were some numbers for two weeks, then they should be there for two weeks. IMHO there are lot of other, more important aircraft which were at the scene in large numbers, and are missing yet.
  4. what i want to try as soon as my current pilot dies, is to pick him up with a new pilot the following day at the same squad with the same members. so i can continue my franchise with a new character. in the old amiga game "wings" it was like this. if you die, you make a new rookie pilot with new name and no stats at all and continue where the pilot before left. like a new main actor who enters the movie and the story around him continues. would be cool to see a wingman, who was a rookie some month ago and lost his mate (me) as a veteran, who leads the newbie to the front (either me) so when my current pilot dies, i could make a new one in the same squad, overwrite the date in the file and copy all the pilots from the old file into the new one, overwriting the generated pilots. did anybody try this before? if so, did it work?
  5. cool to see so many different types in real http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3-idVjBKr4&NR=1
  6. i did. very interesting. thank you for sharing. some years ago i visited the zeppelinmuseum in friedrichshafen. was also impressive. it's a shame there are no museums in germany with WW1 aircraft. or are there some anywhere which i don't know of?
  7. hi olham, i am here. . did lot of flying and lot of working to get out of my 2 for 17 slump (probably too much looking for specks). didn't have to say much lately so i just watched and red the threads. thanks for asking. how was your trip to your roots?
  8. Which DM do you use

that's what i meant. headshot, heartshot...whatever. lethal shots where one bullet is enough. thank you sirmike
  9. Phase 4

if you see a scene after a mission (funeral, too) just hit once "esc". and voila. or you disable ingame movies in workshop.
  10. Which DM do you use

of course you are right with the lucky shot . but it's the exception, not the order. by the way. is a melonshot programmed in BHAH? i mean where you can in theory with the first bullet down one if hitting his head (like in rb3d)? never experienced it so far.
  11. Which DM do you use

definitely hardcore. even with hardcore dm if you hit one with a burst of 3-4 seconds he'll drop. if you aim good and hit important parts, he will fall even sooner. if you just spray bullets around, he won't fall. in literatur if they say he fell apart after one burst, the burst was about 4-5 seconds at least. that's why they had to get close and aim good. from longer distance you can hit him occasionally, but more rounds will miss than hit him. there is a reason why they begun to carry two guns instead of one. with normal DM you can get 8 kills with one gun, shooting at them from 1500 feet, and that's arcadish. that was not the case in real. the guys who had kills after couple bursts were the guys who came close and aimed good, the guys who did not, didn't have kills. there weren't accidental kills because one sprayed bullets around hitting an enemy who fell after one bullet. hardcore reflects that perfectly. there were lot of pilots (ball, LvR...) who landed after every sortie with a ton of bullets in their aircraft.
  12. Phase 4

it may be fewer dogfights but this it how it was and therefore realistic, and how it should be. IMHO if it's about having fun dogfighting all the time, one can run QC. it's already coded by cfs that AI can't see through clouds. sliders on 5 means more clouds, therefore less AI seeing you. much less AI sight would automatically result in more dogfights without result. if formations are seperated into smaller engagements and get spread around, both sides will continue their patrol because they simply lose the enemy out of sight. of course it would be great if nontheless AI would be smarter in deciding when to go without beeing an easy prey, though a very tough nut to crack it seems.
  13. Does P4 get it's own name?

planes of canvas, pilots of steel pocpos
  14. glad you fixed it sorry, mr. vista. not your fault
  15. Phase 4

or a kind of countdown where in the meantime only quick flight is possible. personally i would like that.
  16. best fix would be to get rid of vista. it's a piece of sh... rarely anything works porperly. more trouble than joy with the most simple programms. use xp and then in future maybe use windows 7. at least from betatesting people say it works very good and is better than anything before. i know. not a good advice, but this is what i would do and what i did.
  17. Phase 4

thank you for your hard efford, devs. i'm sure you'll find a way to make it as best and realistic as it can be. really appreciating it
  18. Phase 4

i believe there is no need to change enemy contact per mission. it should be as it was in real. sometimes you meet lot of them, sometimes none. i believe the two keys to decrease it are AI sight (you can't fight what you can't see) and smarter AI (knowing when to attack and knowing when to run). if those two things could be altered, there would be a lot of less kills. in real they often saw enemy formations here and there, but they didn't attack each other all the time or they simply missed them. and if 10 fought against 10, then maybe one or two of each side were shot down, the others went home again. if there were more killed in one sortie, it's so worthy that it's mentioned explicitly in memoirs or papers or reports. if it would be altered, you wouldn't get 20 kills in 3h flight. if you have stats like this, something must be wrong and unrealistic. and i think those are the two keys how to make it realistic.
  19. Phase 4

what would be great, if jagdgeschwader do not only wear the name, but would really be a jagdgeschwader and cooperate. so if i am with jasta 6, i have missions together with jasta 10 for example. or on occasion have the complete geschwader in missions with all involved jastas. what a great sight it must be to see hughe formations of different jastas at once.
  20. OT Free full games

    - wings - power at sea - barbarian - maniac mansion - jeanne d'arc - defender of the crown - monkey island - elvira that were games i would love to see again
  21. OT Free full games

hey wid, you just keep on going as you always did. there are enough forums outside where you almost have to apologize if you post something. this forum has soul and a spirit because of members like you, and this is how it should be
  22. Phase 4

just an idea, when hitting "Z" one can see how tired a pilot is. don't know what effect it might have on somebody. probably a cfs thing without any use. default is 1. and the only situation i saw it ever reach 2 is when king kong on empire state building is grabbing me and throws me around (incloud effect). would it be possible to use this feature and recode it as something like "combat-thrill"? it should work for AI and yourself and when it rises because of g-effects or lot manouvering (dogfighting) to a certain figure than the "fightmode" should be switched into "go home". as an example, it starts by default at "1". when your squadron fights against some enemies, your flight and the enemy flight will do of course a lot of manouvering, and experience g-effects and stuff like this. it can last till the figure 10 is reached (it should rise of course quicker than the "tired" mode right now). it should only be relevant for the flight leader. if the flight leader dies, then from the next flight leader of the group. as soon as the figure 10 of the AI flightleader or your AI is reached then they should break off. aces combat-thrill might rise to 10 before breaking off the fight, good AI at 8, normal at 5 and rookie pilots at 3. it might decrease within the time, maybe, after 10 minutes one notch, simulating calming down. so if aces run into aces, both will fight to death or till one of them reaches 10. those are the epic dogfights (MvR-Hawker e.g.) if squads with aces AI leader runs into a formation with a normal pilot as leader, if the normal AI leader survives long enough, he will reach 5 after a time and then run, while the squad with ace AI leader has still about 5 points left and will chase the fleeing squadron. it will happen often that dogfights with about equal AI leaders (good vs. good, or normal vs. normal) will reach the max at about the same time, and both squads head for home, see you another day. of course there should be no possibility to see the combat thrill number in "z" or somewhere. it should be hidden. just a idea how to get more fights without wiping one side out all the time. just a thought how it might be done.
  23. Have to smile .....

by the way, has anybody noticed that on both, OFF and RoF in the comments of the various youtube vids, a lot of people are asking wow, what is it? is it red baron 4? where can i get it? is it an addon? and stuff like this. and rarely any of them has ever got an answer. i think if any of us who have access to youttube would anser the questions to those people and guide them to the main site or our forum, it might increase salesnumbers and attract more people. i think there is a ton of people out there who don't have a clou there are new sims out there, and who still sit in front of red baron 2.
  24. jokes

hahaha, best one with kermit and the turtle with the snail
  25. Have to smile .....

...the doppler effect and the vibration inside. also like the dm when crashing. i think it's very very cool for MP. from a SP point of view it didn't touch me at all. what i didn't liked, i want a AI fight for his life and make me sweat because of trying to end mine. i don't know if it's standart, but in this vid i could confortably fly and at the same time watch tv because AI didn't seem to be too evasive nor aggressive. a good AI is what keeps me hanging on a sim. and of course the tons of tons of historical research put into it. if i fly, i want to have the feeling i am inside, not just playing. i want to have life on the ground, life in the air, life at the front. and i am just a small small unimportant part of it, not the belly button of the world like it is in most games. and if somebody wants that kind of game, BHAH is the place to go. for MP ROF seems to be the right thing, but i don't know. i am a SP guy and never tried MP (although beeing tempted)
