i have used audacity in rb3d days to alter soundeffects or to make my own ringtones for my cell. nice little tool. does anybody know if there is a similar tool, which can make doppler effects on sound files? you can make wah wah sound, phaser sound and stuff like this from normal soundfiles, but i would like to have an option to simulate doppler. if i would find a sort of tool, i would try to tinker around with the extern aicraft engine sounds. -
i am not sure, but as long as i know it's not intended to have full length. it was only to test some new sort of camera.

OFF BH&H, future: Work in Progress
Creaghorn replied to Polovski's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
i agree with ovs, first more two seaters, who were the primary prey in ww1 and the reason why there were scouts in the air. then again more two seaters. in any case scouts and twoseaters/bombers, who had historical impact. -
imho the plot i like the most is from aces high. it shows realistically the life of veterans, and novice pilots. flight scenes in movies of this era (blue max, corman's red baron, aces high...) are imho too cautios, to choreographic, too much bad cuts (one sequence 3000 meters, next 6000, next sequence, treetop level) and annoying sound effects (stukasound on every hit aircraft). flyboys and new red baron are a piece of crap in any way. the new red baron wouldn't have been so bad if they would have had added some more flightscences and left the lovestory completely out. and of course a different actor as MvR, one who looks like a young man and who has the eyes of a hunter where you can see the will of steel, and not like a metrosexual, androgynic, free dancer. but i like the pictures and colors in the movie. flight scenes i like the most are in hells angels. there are pilots who dare to use the aircraft. the dogfights are breathtaking and look real, not choreographic

OFF with Headplay and TrackIr
Creaghorn replied to Cornell's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
hi cornell (chris cornell?) welcome! i play with trackir. can't imagine to play without (neither without pedals). never heard of anything like virtual goggles. for me the limited peripherical view because of the monitor is like having goggles. -

hahaha, good one i have heard, the two thinnest books in the world: italian heroic saga british cooking book don't know about yanks. but i remember one old coach of mine, once told to a new american pitcher, who was impressed by the german castles and fortresses: "goddamn, rob, we got sausages and pretzels here, with more history as your country..." -

exactly. the life of a pilot in ww1 had something similar like wildlife of animals. if you are fresh from flightschool, the chance you'll die is quite big. because of accidents, enemies, no experience, no knowledge of manouvers, getting surprised, beeing last of the formation, undeveloped SA... so your hours might be very low. if you manage to survive couple flights. maybe even survive your baptism under fire, the chance you'll reach quite a number of hours is much greater because you have more and more experience. you don't die because you have dogfights twice a sortie. i think you die very soon, or you have some month or maybe years. like fresh born animals. and with having fights every couple sorties, often uneventful. reflects just that. -

WINNER OF SKINNING CONTEST ANNOUNCEMENT!
Creaghorn replied to MK2's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
congrats fubar! i don't have some tools to tweak skins. but if i would have, they would look like some drawings from a 3 year old child. i am amazed about everyone who has any kind of talent for drawings and paintings and stuff like this. especially such beautiful and detailed skins you all made. how you do it and how you make it look so great will always remain a mistery for me. i can understand why it was a hard desicion. enjoy your new monitor. -

the key to have more uneventful sorties, and to keep it realistic not to fight every sortie, is to reduce AI sight to max 2NM, as i pointed out several times. of course seems to be a helluva job to change for the devs, if possible at all. what makes me having more uneventful sorties NOW is always beeing the leader and clouds on 5. if you are not the leader, the AI leader is going to attack everything. if you lead, you should only attack what you actually can see. enemy ai is going to attack you with his bionic eyes, but with more clouds and haze (no loss of recources or FPS, but by far more realistic) he is going to also to miss you more often because ai can't see through clouds. that works for me. maybe it will work also for you. -

creaghorn-mode...lol :blush2: i'm honored. just trying to get the most realism out of it. shorter AI-sight and more different two seater types or bombers in the air are IMHO the only "important" things which could be improved. and i am confident they will in future addons. what a wonderful, breathtaking sim. -

thank you for your compliments, olham i would say it depends of factors of is it one on one and if it's over friendly territory. if over enemy territory or more then one, i would go. if over friendly territory i would climb and circle above like an eagle. if he is alone you can dive on him and immediately zoom up again, being careful not getting involved in a turnfight and throwing your advantage away. i would also look to have an open field nearby in the case he is able to hurt you and you have to land. if it's over a large forest or something, i'll leave, meet him again tomorrow. -

i advance sometimes one mission when coming back from a mission with a very beaten up aircraft. the mechs need time to fix and patch the aircraft again. when my aircraft is destroyed i sometimes advance a complete day. sometimes two. you have to wait for a new aicraft, you have to set the cockpit and guns to your taste. stuff like this. when my virtual brother didn't return form a dawn patrol (in my current career), i advanced one or two missions because i was sitting and waiting for news. after 4 month of combat i advanced for about 4 to 5 days, beeing on leave. you have reasons to advance every now and then. adds immersion. have fun -

i would have climbed. when i lose the enemy out ouf sight i try to climb to get a better overview. if the enemy can see me with me not seeing him, he at least has to climb to my altitude. if i don't see any enemy anymore i hit the rejoin button and go on with my patrol. maybe my squad joins, maybe not. if i have the feeling i am getting stalked (constantly scanning my back anyway, but the enemy might be in my blind spot), near facilities you can hear AA anyway. sometimes the selfexploding balloon bug can warn you also. sometimes i switch off my engine for a second or two (although not knowing if realistic) just to check if i can hear some engine. sometimes i just suddenly swerve around to check if i am facing one head to head. for the ground units of course it looks stupid or beeing a show off, when somebody is performing manouvers with no enemy in sight. actually i think there are moments when AI is distracted or loses you out of sight. or at least he behaves like that. it happend sometimes we we circling around each other, trying to get to the rear. suddenly he is straighten up and climbing, mostly because i had a stall almost or beeing forced to break up the turning fight because sensing another enemy is about to sandwich me between my victim and himself. i am sometimes able then to follow him and hit him from behind. then he again starts to be evasive. don't know. they main problem still is the bionic sight of the enemy. maybe he can focus only on one or two things at a time, wich is realistic. so maybe he actually is able to lose you. at least when somebody else of your mates or another enemy is near. but if focusing you again, and then seeing you from 4 miles and stalk you, that's too much. what i forgot to say, always when entering the theatre i zoom the overall view one notch and stick with it. the size of the enviroment and houses and aircrafts...is IMHO more realistic then. maybe this also helps to see some specks more clearly. -

hahaha, thank you very much, gous, . no target fixation no target worth enough to give my life for. i think what saved me so far is i'm flying for the german side, so i'm not too often in enemy territory. if i am, then i absolutely refuse to go to low altitude. i try to shoot the enemy down while beeing high. if he descends, then i am not target fixated but let him go. see you another day. archie didn't came near to me yet. i am constantly zigzaging. i must admit i feel very unconfortable seeing the puffs around me over enemy lines. some days ago one of my mates got hit and went down. it's tough to avoid archie and still concentrate for specks and enemies and not getting surprised. on ground attack missions i make one pass and i am gone. my own archie is bringing me more headache. when i chase somebody and we end up just over treetop level and archiegunners are trying to hit him, but not with deflection bursts but directly aiming on him, more puffs are around me then around the enemy. in that case there is nothing much you can do. just pray and make the kill as fast as possible so the archie ceases around you. -
that's fantastic. what a great idea. i've seen somewhere comics about the famous aviators of WW1, lufbery, udet... the idea to make own versions is awesome!!! would love to see your careers via comicbook. it's a shame i don't have photoshop. what also would be cool, if you could add some plot and pictures of the life apart of flying. in the mess with the other guys and stuff like that. of course not possible because you would have to draw it by yourself. but would be cool to see a selfmade comic like that with plot and characters...

What is your Fighter Pilot personality?
Creaghorn replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
none, what probably helps me is, i always lead and clouds are set at 5. so because i am looking for specks with my human eyes, and not AI with super eyes, i pass more enemies unseen. with cloud setting on 5 the chance to miss enemies or beeing missed is also increased (AI can't see through clouds, neither do i). of course the chance to get surprised is bigger, but that way IMHO is the most realistic. right now in mid april 1917 it's bloddy hell to go to a sortie. there is almost on every sortie enemy contact. but from sept. 1916 throuh the winter the weather was bad and airtraffic less. that probably gave me extra flying hours. -

thank you very much, sir. for sure a good portion of luck is involved too. i try to follow some simple rules. i try to avoid enemy territory as much as i can. if i am in enemy territory, chasing a scout, and he descends to lower altitude, i'll leave him because i don't want to get a lucky shot in my petrol tank or other important parts from ground units. i only attack after checking the situation around me. after doing this i am checking the situation again. where are near enemies? who is higher than me? which enemies are not inbound in some fight? where are my mates? how many of them? which type? how many of us? then i attack or i try to help out other mates. if i find myself alone i try to gain altitude and go on with my mission or go home, constantly checking my six. i am permanently scanning the sky and the ground around me. especially my six about every 5 -10 seconds. if i get hit somewhere, i only fight if absolutely necessary. otherwise i avoid them. i try to get to open fields or near ground units in case i have to land. when getting hit once or twice and my controls are affected, my fight is over and i'll shake dust. i only fight when advantage is on my side. not only for the first pass but throughout the whole fight. i only fight when beeing sure i'll get out healthy. when i got surprised by enemies, and i have to fight, i didn't do my job as leader good enough. then i pray. in short. no potential target is worth to give my life for. -

that's a good question, i try to have it absolutely as realistic as possible (no tac, no labels, no target brackets, no outside view, no radar, no warnings). only trackir, my eyes, my SA, my forcefeedback. DiD (auto mixture) i also only have one character at a time and i really really really treat him like one who can lose his life and who fights for his life and who wants to stay alive, while doing his duty. i know all my squadron mates and also see their progress. so the approach is completely different than yours, as it would be in RL. my pilot is doing his duty, without having in mind, if i die, who cares. i'll make a new one. and that approach makes you really sweat and lose weight, i can tell you, because you really care. if my character dies, i punish myself with not playing for some days because i am mentally exhausted anyway, sad about the loss, and mourn him and all the experience and details and hours i spent with him. my current pilot (in my universe) begun his career as Flieger in relatively new formed part of Jasta 5, jasta hajduk in september 1916. that's a bunch of croatians, who volunteered to help the germans, similar to escadrille lafayette. as i joined there were some more experienced pilots who had the status of german officer. but in fact the whole group did not have the same rights as the german pilots. we have our own quarters and officially are not allowed to join the officers mess where the germans are. as a matter of fact within the time more and more german pilots joined our small mess, because they heard the music and the parties we held. some guy named göring never joined. i don't know why. we heard him complaining about the jewish pilots. we, although beeing all catholic, were quite happy this fellow didn't join us. while we drank selfmade grappa from the grapes we received from the local farms, this dude was constantly seen drinking some stuff from small bottles. he thought nobody would notice, but we knew, and were betting what it is. the first flights were without any events. i saw the battles below but hardly anything in the skies (no radar, more clouds, no aids, only own sight, so by far more formations passing unseen). once we saw a formation and stalked them, but after a while we lost them in the clouds. after about the 8th mission we suddenly were attacked by a group of nieuports. before i knew what happened all of them were downed. couple flights later, i was able to make one stink, but didn't see him crash because i was distracted by another enemy who tried to get behind me. i didn't claim him because i didn't see him crash. never found out what happened to the enemy aicraft. the squadron was equpped later with the brand new Albatros DII scouts, but we of jasta hajduk had to stick with the Halbs. only the german officers were allowed to fly them. later, when the first dIII's arrived, we still had to use the halbs. only for some days we were allowed to fly with the dII's. but it was quite a surprise when someday new dIII's were delivered, and we were allowed to paint them with our jasta hajduk markings. so the time went by and i was able to get a claim confirmed, when i shot down a two-seater over my own airfield. he went down in flames and i felt pitty for the poor inmates. but that's war. the parties in our mess went quieter because some of our group did not return within the time and the enemy traffic in the air increased immensly (it's so cool to spot enemy formations by yourself. completely different feeling of immersion and thrill). at the end of the year my older brother also joined the group. right now it's mid of april 1917. i have right now about 165 hours flight and 17 confirmed victories, my brother has 15. so far i was lucky and was never shot down. only twice i had to crashland. first time everything was fine but the second time, in end of jan.1917 two triplanes were pounding on me and when i landed i had my jaw broken so i had to spend about 2 weeks in hospital. now in mid-april it's very tough to survive, but i am still alive, so far. the attitude of beeing the hunter stalking and searching enemies are gone at the moment. right now we are the prey. we will see. i didn't want to talk about my current pilot (my best so far) because i am supersticious, but as there is a topic about it i wanted to share my experiences and my point of view about this wonderful sim. creaghorn -
WWI Mass graves are now being excavated
Creaghorn replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
IMHO the worst thing what might happen to someone is to be forgotten. if the 2nd generation after you doesn't know you even existed, than your whole life was for nothing. everybody who had to fight for a cause, a stupid cause like WW1 or good causes like wars to regain freedom, deserves to have a grave. to have a name on it. on those mass graves there are often not even numbers. nothing. i wouldn't like to be a number of 300000 others. i would like for the next generations of my familiy to know who i was and what i did and what happened to me. not only in wars. generally one must not be forgotten after just a few decades. and with diggings like that the poor soldiers can get their respect and honor they deserved. -

Recommendations for a new Joysticks ...

i use the cyborg evo saitek force 2. i don't know about other sticks, but i am very satisfied with it. ff is quite strong. also when shooting and it's not all at the same spot, every force feels different. makes harder to aim when shooting, you can feel the wind better a.s.o. very good product. -
is this really meant with "voice acting"? the screams? if it is, than it's really cool the devs did think about that, though i muted them because nobody would ever hear a scream over own engine sound and other aircrafts engine sound.
