Idea for more indecisive action
Creaghorn replied to Creaghorn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
i know what you mean and you are completely right. another reason to reduce the sight of AI. it's also a difference searching the skies for some specks or knowing they are here and looking for them, though maybe exactly the same distance. it's so much easier to overlook them when not knowing where to look at. but that's how it was in real. i love it to search the skies, looking for specks, analizing every single part of the sky. but that's me. it's absolutely legitim for everybody to use radar and tac and whatever they want to use. i don't because i have very sharp eyes and have a 22" screen with 1680 X 1024 and i think that should be enough for me. nonetheless i experimented sometimes, using radar and checking out what the white spots on radar are, and often i see a formation of maybe triplanes, diving from very high altitude and from far away for me. when i look up, i see nothing. when i look down from the triplanes view, i see absolutely nothing. when i give sign to attack, my flight exactly knows where to go and where the enemy is, though altitude difference of 15000 feet. but they are realistically simply too far away.resolution or screen or dots or whatever, in RL nobody would be able to attack or respond the attack, because they would simply not see them. i remember sitting on the shore of my hometown in croatia, watching the fishing boats going out at sea and disappear in the horizon. doesn't matter what kind of weather, on some point i simply was not able anymore to see them. even knowing they were going to that direction. and i was sitting still, not in a moving craft. in BHAH they would still know you are there, know you are an enemy, and they would attack you. or your flight leader would attack them. that's all what i mean. simply reduce the sight of AI to a point which is more realistic and human. i think lot of people here would appreciate it. or at least would like to have a choice, similar to dm hc or normal. -

i think if the sight of the enemy is as the human sight, they also won't fight to death. On a dogfight the aircrafts are spread around a lot, so when they are spread far enough (out of human eyesight), they will automatically form up again and continue their mission or go home, instead of stalking you for miles. i am talking about no use of radar or any other view than VC. In real life one also couldn't jump out and have other views. But even for the people using the features, it would be far better with shorter view of AI. i would only like to know wich file i have to alter for my own use, there is no need of a patch if the dev's think there is no need. but i want it to be as realistic as can be, so at least i would love to change it for myself. does anybody know which file is responsible? i found pilotattributes and pilotconstants. is it one of those? i would be very thankful if soemone could give me a hint. -

thanks dej, it's not about getting surprised. i'm fine with that. it's about the enemy's and own AI's bionic eyes. it should be maybe half of the sight they have right now. you can often see your wingman in 15000 feet, giving sign to attack an enemy formation at treetop level 5 miles away, and vice verca. enemy scouts seeing you from 15000 feet, five miles away and attacking you. i don't want my flightleader nor enemy AI doing this. i want my own AI or enemy AI only attack when specks or formations are "clearly" visible as such. right now it's more like jediknights feeling enemy presence and attacking, miles before seeing them visually. with at least half AI vision you will get less enemy contact and fights turning home without killing everybody more often, as it should be. -
i have found in my old folders of phase 2 times a gun jam patch. inside there is also a tool named jameditor. in the readme text it's said you simply throw it into your OFF folder and run it. there you can adjust following i copied from the readme: Adjustable Settings - minimum values in () ------------------- FIRETIME Max time Fire is held before causing possible jam - mSecs (500+) JAMCHANCE Odds of a jam = JAMCHANCE/4 per Sec fire. Checked after FIRETIME expires. (1+) FAILCHANCE Odds of a failure = FAILCHANCE/4 per Sec fire. Checked during norm firing. (20+) MINTIME Min Time gun will stay jammed - Secs (1+) MAXTIME Max Time jammed - Secs (>= MINTIME) SNDTIME Jam sound repeat delay - mSecs (250+) AI JAM Allow AI weapon jams - ON or OFF i am wondering if it's also going to work for BHAH. but i don't want to mess things up. please, can anyone of the dev's say if it's going to work? i would like to have more unreliable guns if allowed to do so. thank you in advance

Want to see your tracers and smoke trails better?
Creaghorn replied to Winston DoRight's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
wohhoo! i just tried it and i'm really impressed. one can even see the trail from VC, which was the main problem all the time. I immediately threw my version out because yours is so much better. very good job, winston!!! - - - - - - - - - - - - -... -

great research bullethead, and it's sorry to hear you have experienced things like that in RL. it's easy to talk about kills and stuff like this with blood in the mouth, knowing it's only a game. real experience is different, which most of us don't have. what i did in my frontview version is primarily eliminate the glowing effect. maybe i'm wrong, but IMHO only incendiary bullets had the flashlike look. so made the glow smaller and wanted to have only the bullet with the trail. the bullet itself is not too much smaller than original. just grey and mur smokelike. there was a topic about tracer bullets some days ago, where i have posted some pics with my version (wich is again modified in the meantime). if you look some pages back you should find it and tell my your opinion. i can't wait to try the new smoke settings of winston and rabu later :-). -
while there is a topic about gun jams. - are in BHAH gun jams only occuring when shooting too long? - is it possible to get gun jams randomly (maybe because of bend rounds or something like that)? - can AI also have jams? - is there a file one can alter, when a jam should occure randomly or when overheating? i would like to happen it more often. IMHO the guns were much more unreliable. thank you

Want to see your tracers and smoke trails better?
Creaghorn replied to Winston DoRight's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
i didn't modify tracersmoke at all. i only modified the tracerend and tracerside. tracerend to greyish and much smaller with a kind of puff effect. tracerside i changed to grey, 80% thinner and about 500% longer to get a stream. this stream i modified to be more smokelike and unregurlar with a bit serpentines, so i don't have a perfect straight trailerline when shooting, but more unpredictible lines, as smoke usually is. i would like to see how it would look like when combining your mod with my mod. will try it later. good job winston -

i also would love to see some shots. here are some pics i just made today in my own modified version with bullets, together with rabu's trailersmoke. ingame it looks very good and you can see by far more than on those pics. unfortunately you can hardly see your own trails from VC. but from the others it looks awesome. i changed the bulletsize and colour to greyish and made the sideview a lot thinner and about 100 times longer. the frontview i made lot smaller and also grey, so there are no more tennisballs but some smokepuffs instead. i would like to compare my version with winston's version. -
hope you get well soon, ol' chap

Planes:Exploding, or Flamming?
Creaghorn replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
IMHO from bishop's 72 victories only a few were kills at all . too many downed scouts, (primary target always have been two seaters), too many multiple kills, too many kills with no witnesses for my taste, too many doubters among his own pilots. but that's my opinion. who really knows? actually, if he would have to make claims like in BHAH, he would end up with 3 kills . -

ironically there was a conversation among lufbery and his pilots, wether to jump to death or staying inside, in the case the aircraft caught fire. and lufbery told vehemently to stay inside. if one jumps, his death is certain. if one stays inside, one can try to fan the fire off the face with sideslipping or similar moves. only couple days later lufbery's aircraft got hit by a german two seater gunner and caught fire. he jumped to death. researches say he obviously tried to hit a small pond when he jumped. he missed it and instead got impaled by a picked fence at a farmhouse. -
hi, i'm not sure if it was discussed before or if it is possible, so i apologize if it was questioned before (maybe even by myself? can't remember. damn foultips :-) ). would it be possible to see the names of wingmates and enemy aces in the mission replay? right now the only one who is identified is you, all others, friends or foes, have some ID-numbers. it would really be cool to see the names of what happened to who, like in rb3d. i never use tack or any names display or other view then virtual cockpit. all i see is what i see with my eyes. markings, colours etc. so it's imho more realistic for claimings to note only what one has seen. but it would add the immersion if i replay the last sortie (to imagine, me talking with hand and feet with other pilots), and beeing able to see, ltn. berthold takes hits by guynemer from distance..., or hpm. von rolshoven takes hits by french scout... (to imagine somebody telling me the guy with the marking x y on the fuselage is british ace named...). simply knowing what happened to who with displayed names and not any id-numbers, because one doesn't know who this number is from both sides.

the sounds are really really great. the engines, damaged engine, the battlesounds below, the ambience sounds at the airfield, sound of machineguns, of flak, everything. only thing wich is missing, probably because it's impossible to do, is a real doppler-effect when airplanes are flying or mg fire. whoever made the sounds for BHAH (ovs?) did a hell of a job.

Bloodthirst craze or grown up pilot

hi,jammer 28, i am playing baseball as catcher almost all my life and still playing a decent level to this day. so of course i grew up as a walking baseball almanac. especially with the yankees. i grew up watching them almost daily. my idol always were mickey mantle and lou gehrig. not so much because of their numbers, but because of their attitude on the field. same with jeter and posada. i love leader types and clutch hitters. @olham i agree, sometimes it's funny to hear stories of my mates, when they are in the states, and are questioned things like: "do you have microwave ovens in germany? do you have HD tv?. is hitler still germanies leader?" stuff like that. unbelievable sometimes, but true. of course not for everyone, but i heard very very often that a very high percentage of americans have not the singlest clou of what's happening outside their borders. of course it is not only the americans. germanies youth (and lot of older people too) also isn't that what it should be nowadays. the lack of knowledge sometimes is scary. me, as a croatian i sometimes get told by people they were doing vacation in yugoslavia at the mediterrenean adriatic sea. i tell them, no you weren't. you were in croatia. yugoslavia doesn't exist anymore. and when it existed, it was only for few decades because of a communist dictatorship. yugoslavia is serbia. and serbia never had an inch of shore at any sea. the was a freedom war in the 90ies to get rid of the dictatorship, and after the war the borders were as they were before yugoslavia, and as it was for many hundred centuries before. different people, different races, different culture, different religion. but still thrown sometimes into the same pot to this day. there are sometimes shows on tv or radio where people at the streets are questioned things which everybody must know. sometimes making fun of them because of the lack of knowledge. who played better at the last soccer game? the netherlands or holland?
-
yeah. sad story. all male mantle members died young because of heart attacks, cancer..., so knowing he will for sure also die young he lived his life as fast as he could.
-
hi peeppu, i would also love to see this feature. especially with the possibility of jamming only one gun. but i don't think it's possible. i think it's hard coded as one weapon. maybe in some future addons very far back on the "to do if possible list". but it really would be great of course.

didn't widowmaker (if i remember correctly, but also could mistaken), has a 3 year old son who already plays BHAH? so there should be also a 15 years or younger choice

hallo, just a question, i am not sure which one is more historical correct. the greyish bullets with smoke trail, or the yellowish bullets as we have here in BHAH? isn't it only incendiary bullets have a flashlike trail? i saw the ROF vid showing bullets grey with a long trail, similar like in flyboys, so i was wondering. would it be theoretically possible to take the file of the bullet (i found it somewhere, one frontside, one from the side) and paint it from yellow to grey, maybe even to make the flash longer to give it a more smoketrail-like look? just asking. i don't have the right tool to open this file anyway. just wanted to know if it would be possible, and if it would be historically correct. thank you.

how do you like that? i didn't get good screenshots, ingame it looks much more visible. but that's the best i could create so far. i used rabu's tracer dds and altered the bullets a bit. if someone likes it, please pm me and give your email addy so i can send you a zip. of course only with permission of the devs.
