  1. cool there are still people out there who learned how to read the old style. i would love once to know what he had written to his family from the trenches. some i even managed to translate. there is also a shrapnell wrapped in a letter where he said, it's from a melted churchbell. or other letters where he drawed trenches and how it looked like inside. there are even some letters in french and greek (he was a professor), some limericks where he wrapped the terrible things which happened, into limericks, to avoid cencorship. things like that. but it's a ton of it. so if i would give it to translate to somebody, it should be somebody who earns money with it. it's too much for a hobby. but if you want, i might send you some copies of the letters, just to see if you will remember your old lessons. maybe you'll have fun.
  2. that's amazing. i'm very impressed. as you can see on the german cards, you can't read a single handwritten word. not even a german can read it anymore. it was called "sütterlin-schrift" and was very commom in those days, because it was fast, and readable for everybody. there are still some older people left who learned the style in school, but the more years pass, the less are remaining who can read and write this style. you can also see it clearly on the piece of paper MvR wrote as his last wish. when the nazis got power in germany, this sütterlinstyle was banned from schools, because they considered it as "judenlettern", jewish letters. i have still hundreds of letters at home, where the grand-grandfather of my ex-girflriend was in the trenches of flanders, writing home. so much history in those letters. unfortunately i can't read a thing because all is in sütterlin. i found out there are some places where you can let "translate" old letters or similar, but it's quite expensive. by the way. i have some pokemon cards. would you like to trade some of your cards with some of my pikachu cards?
  3. Command Key Card for OFF

  4. Jasta Hajduk

i didn't get it how to show pictures and not only the link for opening, like in my post.
  5. Letters Home

wow dej, that's awesome. with the authentic looking letters i almost forgot it's fictious and felt sad about your loss. it looks so real. unfortunately for any reason i can't open your pdf attachement you posted. i only get a white page. i also tried it on another rig and it didn't open either. what i'm doing wrong? sorry, i got it. had to save it first prior opening the file. sorry, my bad.
  6. glad you're using your pedals now. i couldn't imagine to fly without anymore. in some things it's easier with pedals, in some things it's harder, like aiming. it's so much easier to adjust your guns with slightly moving your hand on the stick, than doing the same with your feet. the same in wild manouvers. at least for me it's more difficult to move your stick with your hand and operating rudder with your feet at the same time. took some practice, but it's by far more realistic than only having to move your hand half an inch. what i like most are windy starts and windy landings. please olham, never put your pedals aside anymore. if you got them, use them. if it's hard, practice. it's ok if you feel like a rookie the first flights. the same as it was in real. you won't ever regret. that's adding a very very big portion of realism, and IMHO you are honoring the sim, and the aircraft you fly. especially our both dearest lady, the alb. creaghorn
  7. need therapy

today i had a pre season game. it was a doubleheader so i caught the first and played DH the second game. so in the second game i had a lot of time to sit in the dugout. it was really overcast and it rained a bit too. i looked up to the sky and thought, cool, looks exactly like in the game when it says towering clouds... i looked to the trees around the field. the overall light mist. i thought, cool, looks exactly like in the game. i ended searching the sky for any specks, and then i thought, man wether you should quit chewing redman, or you should play the sim a little less. it's a virus. it's addictive. i need therapy. there should be a kind of warning on the package...
  8. wow, that's awesome. forget my bright fuselagething. looks damn great. no need for letters. that looks awesome. thank you olham!!!
  9. those groundtroops have no clou about traffic rules...
  10. hi alter schinken (ol'ham), of course for myself. that really would be great. that would be WOW . but maybe not on a black fuselage, but maybe on a plane which has custom red and white parts. dunno, jasta 8 maybe. what i also did in rb, i painted the hoehenruder (forgot the english word) in the red and white chess board. like this. wow, that would be cool. a kind of lafayette escadrille with crotian markings. jagdstaffel hajduk :-)
  11. I noticed one thing:

you are right. sometimes they form suddenly up again and go away. it happened once i got seperated from my flight over friendly lines. i flew back alone and saw a lake, so i went down to enjoy the scenery and the moving water, when suddenly a single nieuport attacked me. i was completely surprised, since i never use radar or any markings, only my own eyesight. because of the beauty of the lake and scenery i simply forgot to check my six. i could barely keep my aircraft straight. the nieuport stopped shooting at me (dunno why), but was still at my six, following me to a friendly airfield (reminded me on bruno stachel and his victim, only that i was flying to a friendly airfield), when i reached it, still beeing in the air, he suddenly sverved around and headed directly back over the lines. so there is some kind of coding when to break up a fight. i don't know when they do that or not, but since it is possible, maybe it can be mor sensitive regarding SA when or when not breaking up. probably it's coded, but that would be awesome and would add 100% realism to the already 95% realism as this sim is. so it would be 195% realistic. wouldn't it be great?
  12. hi, just wondering. it's quite a time since the last post of gous. maybe i just missed some he wrote. GOUS?
  13. I noticed one thing:

that was always a problem on every sim i remember. usually in real a lot of dogfights were inconclusive. when some were outnumbered or ammo exhausted or it lasted a while, everybody went back to his lines. when a formation of 10 vs. 10 engaged, probably 8-9 of each side returned home. in games a furball is over when the other side is wiped out. they fight like spartans or samurais. i think it's coded or maybe AI will never be smart enough for this, but it really would be cool to have formations seperate from the enemies after a while. when ammo is low, when losses are to great, when too much damage occured. when too deep over enemy lines. veterans should go earlier, because they have the sense when to leave to live for another day, rookies stay longer because of target fixation or undeveloped SA. the sense of wanting to stay alive. i think that won't be possible in our era of simming. maybe the next. but it would be cool.
  14. TrackIR Problems.

when the view suddenly screws up like you discribed, mostly it's because there is to much light somewhere in the background. some lamp, candles, someone or yourself lighting a cigarette. one too bright spot in a moment can be enough. might also be some power problem. maybe your usb connection is too weak.
  15. My first SUCCESSFUL scramble mission!

glad to see you back, geschosskopf :-). if you skip scramble missions, honestly, you miss something. usually, if there is an alarmstart, in real they would at least know if they are twoseaters or scouts before starting. the scramble missions with two seaters are great and very realistic. so i would suggest, because you do not know whats expecting you, right at the beginning, to use your radar to identify if scouts or not. if there are two seaters, go get them, if scouts, leave the mission. i like both scenarios, so i don't mind, but this should be the only time in any mission, where using radar is allowed for the purists.
  16. Letters Home

great stuff dej, very good. one can read it like beeing real. i like your new letters in this handwritten style. how did you do it? even with this smudge on it. really great.
  17. My first SUCCESSFUL scramble mission!

depends. scrambling nearby two seaters they did often. about scrambling scouts i don't know. but they often (especially jasta11) were sitting in flying clothes, drinking coffee and smoking cigars with ready machines and were waiting for a phonecall or any sign of inbound aircraft. there is one story when MvR was sleeping in his bed, when there were enemy aircraft spotted near them. while he was sleeping, all other pilots already had breakfast and were ready. he jumped out of his bed, put his flying clothes on, whilst all others already went up scrambling the enemies. he was the last one who went up, chased one, shot him down and landed again and immediately went back to bed. the others went up first, and came back last, without shooting anybody down. they didn't even know he also went up. they only saw his red plane beeing not at the same position as before. they were a bit embarrassed because they started first, and landed last without scoring, and their leader went up last, came back first, already sleeping again when the others arrived.
  18. My first SUCCESSFUL scramble mission!

great idea siggi, i've got another question. does anybody know if one can get leave? i didn't live long enough to find out. what i did when starting as a two seater pilot or gunner, when deciding to switch to a fighter squadron, i pushed the date in the pilot dossier one or two month (pilot training in berlin). the same one can do when going to leave. but does it go automatically when being 6 month at the front? that would be cool.
  19. My first SUCCESSFUL scramble mission!

great idea, but if you roll a die for fuel, you should also roll a die for ammunition. depending if and how much you used on your mission before. when i had to crashland or my aircraft is riddled too much with bullets, i usually skip one or two sorties, depending if it was a dawn patrol or how much time is between the next mission. so your idea is also great. adds immersion.
  20. My first SUCCESSFUL scramble mission!

at least 50% of my scramble missions are against two seaters. i don't use tac, so i really have to look for specks like it was in real. so on a scramble whilst starting the engine i search the sky for enemy formations. i like both scramble types. against scouts, the mess, the ground troops shooting, flak, smoke trails and spinning out of control everywhere, looks like a hornets nest. but even more against two seaters. i like the thrill of stalking them, count their numbers, waiting for one getting a bit seperated. I usually try to get higher then the formation, but out of shooting range. then dive on them, still out of shooting range and take the momentum and energy pulling up, filling their belly with lead. by the way, i really love the hardcore dm. now it's really perfect for me. no planes made of styrofoam anymore, but still the amazing effects. thank you all devs for making everybody happy . p.s. i take it as realistic as possible. so on a scramble when there is alarm, everybody is running out the mess, and dressing with their furs and coats, throwing their cigars away, there is no time to tell the mechanics, please empty my fuel tank to 20% to be more manouverable. you take your aircraft as it is.
  21. i don't have photoshop or anything similar of this better painting programms. that's a shame because i would love to do some own skins. what i would love to see is the croatian flag on the fuselage of an albatros dIII. i did it with rb3d with ms paint, but of course not usable for BHAH. :cray:
  22. They were boys...

in the old movies (blue max, 1.red baron movie, aces high...), they used completely wrong planes, but you won't find albatros and nieuports on every corner, so that's fine. but what i do not like are the fight sequences. the stunt pilots simply didn't dare to do anything daring, so IMHO there is never a impression one is fighting for his life. there are lot of bad cuts, changes of altitudes from very low to very high in each cut. smoke trails from below the fuselage, annoying STUKA-sounds when someone is out of control. but all that is fine, because one can see real planes and i like all the movies. IMHO the older the movie, the better the action sequences. maybe because there were real veterans in them. the fight scenes in hells angels are 200% more believeable and wow, than in any other movie, no additional sound effects, everything very genuine. i didn't like the new red baron movie, because i looked forward all the years for someone making a movie about MvR, and then it was done, and the "material" completely wasted. what i like very much in the movie are the albatros scouts. this is the first time one can see the most beautiful scout of all times in action. CGI very well done, from the beauty aspect. has anyone noticed that the guy who is playing udet, looks very much like the real MvR? he should have had the main role IMHO ;-).
  23. BEWARE! Unknown ace

cool. how did he manage to keep his hat on in the wind? he must indeed be an ace.
  24. DM: just right after 1.28?

sorry, winder, for many of us beeing such crybabies, me including. i want it to be as the nearest to the average real life a pilot had, as possible. and IMHO if i have 20 kills in 18h, for me something is wrong. if it would be that easy, every pilot who survived the war, must have been an ace with 100+ kills. i am just trying for me to get a kill as hard as i can. if i hit an aircraft in the first pass, and hit something important, the plane should instantly go down. that's fine. but if i don't hit important parts, just canvas, then i should waste all my ammo without the plane going down. i like the idea of swapping the DM files. your support is awesome, as always. when i am using the "hard" dm, will the great effects still be there (spinning down, exploding engines, torn off wings)? only after more hits taken? or will it reduce the effect immensly, like it was prior to the newest patch?
  25. DM: just right after 1.28?

    hi, IMHO too easy.
