  1. OT/ Strange things happen...

nope. but that woul be the first thing i would think of too . @jarhead
  2. Engine damage questions

also it is a hughe factor what bullet spread is chosen. a second in the line of fire with tight or normal setting is causing much more damage than a second with wide setting.
  3. Where are our French pilots?

i like those trashmovie nights, especially with classic horromovies. some months ago there was the greek trashmovie "attack of the giant moussaka". . btw. i don't think that dubbing from chinese movies will be necessary. our children will have for sure chinese in school instead of english and french. question is rather cantonese or mandarin?
  4. Where are our French pilots?

btw. i love arte, at least most of the times (sometimes still too strange though). especially the french-german show "karambolage" and this geopolitical show "mit offenen Karten". accents is the main reason why i mostly watch dvd's and blu ray in original language. i don't want to miss the different accents. it's not fun watching lord of the rings without their accents, or darth vader in german. on the other hand german dubbing is one of the best, any many many movies in the past had a hughe success just because of the translation, like all bud spencer and terrence hill movies, or louis de funes. about faking accents, i just recently found out that apollo in BSG is actually british and speaks like gaius baltar in real, but in the series he spoke american to match the accent of his father adama.
  5. Where are our French pilots?

problem is rather to know it exists and getting interested in the first place. if i don't speak english i probably won't search in english websites for new games and sims etc. so actually i think that most people never even knew it's existing. you can compare it with books. if i love reading books and can only read german, then i would of course look only for books available in german. if there are excellent books not translated (yet) i might never be aware of them in the first place because i only know about books in german. or the other way, the japanese horror movies like the ring or the grudge etc., they existed for some years and nobody knew about them. it's only since the US made the movies again with own budget and in english when most of the non-japanese people knew about it and went to the movies.
  6. Where are our French pilots?

germany is a "dubbing" country among other big countries in europe. other countries do not dubb movies but have it with undertitle. that's one of the reasons why english in germany is taught in school but hardly anyone really needs or speaks it. same probably in france. so that's like algebra, you learn it and after passing the exams you forget it again. another reason is that many people in germany never had english in school but russian (east-germany). but IMO biggest reason is that in dubbing countries the people are spoiled with having everything translated. if it's not translated, then they hardly can use it. of course there are also many people who watch movies in original language and just have undertitles to support in the case it went too fast or so, but most people want to have everything translated. especially the youth nowadays sings songs from the charts without having a clou what it's about lol. in those countries who are used to get stuff mostly in english, be it movies or games etc., they have less problems with it. there is the language forum in combatace and there were also some threads about OFF in the german forum, and the people there liked it, but refused it simply because it is not in german.

  8. Tame opposition

dear mr lederhosen, it would be great if you could tell us if you still have the problem and if you tried it with or without mods etc. an answer would be appreciated since it might help others and also it would show if the weather-mod has something to do with. if, then HPW might take a look, if not, then the mod would be clear of false accusation. cheers
  9. An Ode To Flight Sims

yes, you are right. but just wanted to point out the argument some contra-OFFers are saying without noticing that the same argument should have also counted for them in Rb3d in those days, but strangely did not. what? you say WFP and Hells Angels Superpatch and Full Canvas Jacket is absolutely awesome? and the AC and FM's and graphics and historical accuracy is 100 times better than stock RB3d? whatever. i won't buy it because the stock RB3d sucks... know what i mean?
  10. An Ode To Flight Sims

actually the stock game was indeed quite bad. it had many glitches, bugs, was quite unstable, bad habits etc. but it's the community with all patches and add ons which made RB3d the great sim as it was. so the crits were appropriate. the campaign manager was, and still is superb. unfortunately they did not try and crit the sim with the major patches, then they would had a way better opinion. maybe quite similar with cfs3 and OFF. a rather bad game with a good engine, which was led to a 20 times higher league, manifested in OFF. btw., for all those who always point out that OFF ist "just" an "addon" for such a bad ww2 sim, i'm wondering why they never bashed about rb3d beeing such bad as stock version? no, when they talk about rb3d, they always talk about the Rb3d patched, as if it's the patched version they bought in a store, not the stock one. it's like the stock one never existed lol. same principal, but human psychology is strange
  11. An Ode To Flight Sims

well written my friend , my ww1 flight sim life started with amiga wings, then it made a hughe step forward towards realism with amiga red baron, then red baron 3d with couple years playing it without noticing that there are great patches etc. out there which turned the core game into something completely new. my first contact with the patches was with OvS and his hells angels superpatch several years ago, then western frontpatch etc. and then of course OFF.
  12. nice story lou, there is the saying that beeing alone in a desert is beeing closest to god. i think generally the lonesome time away from civilisation is the time one is nearest to god and transcendial moments. that's the time where you maybe start to talk to yourself. maybe loud, maybe in your head. and all of a sudden after a while you realize that it's not you answering. it's not your thought but somebody elses. call it meditation or insanity or whatever.
  13. nice story. sometimes it's the little things like that which makes you appreciate the comfort you have. reminds me of a game two weeks ago. it was very dull and rainy. just borderline for beeing rained out. so actually bad enough for beeing totally wet and muddy, but too good for beeing canceled (damn germans who consider bad weather way differently then i do lol). especially the dirt at homeplate was totally puddled and muddy. i was forced to ignore the weather as much as possible. on every move or throw i wether slipped away or got caught in the mud. my helmet caught the rain and collected it to drop everything from above into my face. after the game i was covered with mud completely and was soaked wet to the bones. the equippment was two times heavier than usual. the hot shower afterwards was very well appreciated. but i also imagined how it would be to stay in such weather for a long time without beeing able to change clothes etc. simply beeing outside and beeing forced to ignore the weather.

howdy BH, hope all is well.
  19. Tame opposition

AI can't see through clouds. there are also sometimes haze or cloudlayers which is invisible or almost invisible for you, but for AI it's still a cloud he can't see through. with the weather mod it's possible that some of those invisible clouds are appearing more often than in stockversion, and therefore you can see the AI formation, but they can't see you because you both are flying through clouds (for you invisible though). best would be to deactivate the weather mod and try it again. maybe it's just coincidence or just strange luck, but that seems logical to me.
  20. I wonder if we'll get a Xmas release?

panzer simply means armour or armour plate. the knights had a brustpanzer (chest armour plate), insects have chitin-panzer, turtles are carrying their panzer. bulletproof glass is called panzerglas. so basically a name for hard and resistent material to protect something. panzer as tank is a short term. it actually is named panzerkraftwagen (armoured vehicle) but it's commonly known as panzer. cheers
  21. Who loves the Fokker D-VIII?

ahem, no. the camel is definitely not easy to fly and i also did not master it. what i mean is that with the newer AC it seems you have to have a better feel for the AC and play a bit more with rudder etc. while turning or landing. too easy was the wrong phrase.
  22. Who loves the Fokker D-VIII?

i generally don't like monoplanes in WW1. it just not seem to fit visually. what i like about it is the FM. it is very unforgiving as it IMO should be. also all other new AC which came with HiTR (Nieuport 28, DH5 etc.) have more unforgiving FM's than the previous AC. they feel more correct to me and maybe the previous AC are a bit too easy to fly?
  23. what happened to paul? did i miss something? is he dead or are they still shooting season two?
  24. For all warping pilots who want to have slower (and therefore more realistic) promotions and who are a bit annoyed when reaching the home airfield again, finding themselves 2NM away and about 3000 meters high (the annoying thing is the killing of altittude until beeing ready for landing), there is an easy solution. when i'm on the last leg warping home, i get out from warp when about 10 NM away with control+x, then i hit shift+w to get the very last small leg. then i got into warp again. that makes you come out of warp at about 3NM from the airfield in the direction you came from and about 500 meters height. so you are quite low and you don't have to kill altitude anymore. additionally the mission will be registered as "another logged" flight instead of "mission successfull", which makes no difference at all besides obviously getting less points for promotions, therefore slower promotion rate. cheers creaghorn
