I use an Antec 850W in my system, not sure if that hurts or helps. ATI 4870 1GB card..
-
Problem is the connection needs to be "Aces High / IL2" solid to have a good, fair competition ladder. While you may get a good/fun dogfight in now and then it isn't something you can count on.. unless someone changed some code since the last time I tried? Even on a LAN it is twitchy for me.
-
What you have with human vs. human dogfights is the nastiest bug of all in OFF multiplayer; the "unusual attitude" of your opponent when he's turning hard. He flys backwards and sideways and shoots you when pointed away from you. When you look behind you and see an enemy at 800 ft, he most likely is much, much closer than that as you soon find out. I find myself marveling at these bugs so much that I forget what I'm doing.
Kills could be more attributed to a players lag time rather than skill, but also even the host experiences the bug. We've all hated this from the beginning, is there a fix that I'm unaware of? Or a new way to minimize the problem?
Yes. There is NO way, with the current MP code mess, that doing any sort of MP competition is feasible. Co-op missions are fun, but even then you get the "wobbly" AI planes and other glitches. Human dogfights? No way until the code is fixed and I highly doubt that will happen anytime soon..

The mission termination seems to vary - in Sim mode I think it usually offers you to carry on. Has for me anyway.
Anyway as I say I am not doubting it's not right for you Siggi, but for others it's great fun so people should read all the ins and outs, try the demo and make their minds up. The devs ARE listening, and bringing out features people asked for, so good to me.
I'm with you Pol, I like WOP and the activations thing is a non-issue to me. I applaud the devs for their efforts and really enjoy just hopping in for a quick fight. Add to that the stunning visuals and smooth as silk framerates and I hope this is around a long time.

Hi chaps i got a bit ahead of myself, went on TS today and guess what, TSO not working again? Anyway i have given up on it for now and down loaded a program called PLAYCLAW that does the same thing + captures video to.It's only the trial version for now but if it works i'll buy it for $29
Did you notice any conditions that may have changed (back) from when it worked and when it didn't?

At last i think i've cracked it.......
Mind sharing how?

That is not true.
I understand that you are a fan, and perhaps it's the only way you would consider, but, it is NOT the only way to smoothly look around.
Obviously, there are those who are good with the mouse in one hand, stick in the other and are quite smooth. But even outside of that, the Cougar HOTAS has a microstick on the throttle which can be mapped to anything, including the mouse. In most sims, that's exactly what I use it for. It does take a bit of getting used to, but it is extremely smooth and controllable, and I use it as I would my head (though I am a bit more stiff in Strike Fighters because I don't like where the view center leaves the view).
I think that statement would be like me saying that a ThrustMaster Cougar HOTAS (with rudder pedals) is the only way to truly enjoy a simulation and experience immersion with a side benefit of increased effectiveness. I may feel that way personally, but clearly it's not a statement of absolute fact (for everyone).
TH CH PRO USB HOTAS has a very accurate microstick (in the USB Throttle) also, but for me it's either the TIR or fixed views.

This is very interesting!
I'm currently looking at TrackIR dithering about Trackir4 at @$100 or Trackir5 at @ $150 (+ $20 either way for the Track Clip Pro that attaches to a headset).
From what you guys are saying the hardware for the Trackir4 and Trackir5 are basically identical and the big difference is the software. And the TrackIR web page states:
LATEST SOFTWARE ::
Version 5.0 - Final B
(posted August 10, 2009)
(.exe 6.7 MB)
• Supports TrackIR 5, TrackIR 4:PRO
• Note: TrackIR 3 with Vector support will be added in version 5.1
Am I missing something here? Why even had a model 5 if the software will update the model 4 hardware?
They aren't the same at all. TIR 5 has about double the resolution (IIRC) as a TIR 4. The latest software upgrade just makes the TIR 4 perform better..

G35's for $107 here - wonder why Bose hasn't produced a set yet?
-
Had to edit the keyboard.inp file, it wasn't as shown in the tweak guide so I played around and it works fine.
-
'H' Key I think..or Shift H
There should be a list of keyboard commands in the download..if not, pm me, and I can send
Thanks UK_W, I have the KB map and see SHFT-H as "HUD Mode" so i'll try it. Be nice to have the throttle work but I can program it to throw out "=" and "-" if I have to.
-
I have it running and looks like it will be fun. Did all the "tweaks" but although my CH Pro throttle is seen and works in controls it does nothing in game. Also, how do you get rid of the "HUD" degree lines?
-
Thanks for the info ArgonV, can never have too many WWI sims IMO! No one has mentioned online with SDOE-FS-WWI, is there any or is it just bad?
-
Zipped it into a .rar for easier downloading, this should get it - UOTrace
It will create an ini file when 1st started and ask to find the UO Server List, just say NO and when it runs select Options/Advanced. It's pretty straightforward, put an IP in and you can Traceroute it to see how many jumps to the destination IP or Poll it to look for lost packets, etc.
-
I have a little Freeware program that was made for Ultima Online called UOTrace many years ago that does pings and route traces both singular and continuous showing time and if any packets are lost. Be glad to post it up if I knew it was ok to do so. It's only 88KB.

Hello,
found this link to Canvas Knights (formerly "OOF" Over Oleg's Fields) again, however it seems as if the work has stopped (?):

Greetings,
Catfish
This is the most active CK site I know - http://allaircraftarcade.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=91
-
Was summer 2009, so now it is summer 2010, mmm, maybe I should Flybert sent a Email about the CK.
Know nothing about it but what i read on their forum. Seems they planned on few planes but it has gone way beyond that. All I care is if the multiplayer is as good as IL2, if I want a WW1 sim I already have the best, BHaH.
-
6. The WW1 sim based on IL2 - don't know how it has been recently named, an older name was "Over Oleg's Fields", but they quickly changed that lol. Still no release so I think they have faced a problem, that can not be solved!!!! All quit at the AAforum front
It's new name is Canvas Knights and the forum still seems pretty active, they are hinting toward a summer release.

Take a breath, slow down, go back and re-read what was posted. There's a HUGE difference between using an example via analogy, and insulting something. But you chose to ignore that and invent an insult that wasn't present.
Great, now we are "you people"..........
-
I have both also and there is no comparison in immersion, BHaH has ROF beat. Can't say about online as I have tried numerous times to get in an online match in ROF and always seem to have to wait more than 10 minutes to join, and i'm just not that patient. If you need a CFS3 CD I have two left from a 5-pack I bought a while back, new in shrink wrap from XPlosive. Cover the shipping and i'll send it out!

Hey GaryR is selling a Track IR 3 for $60 in the odds and end section of Combact Ace.
GB
For a fellow retired guy and OFF addict I will sell it for $50 shipped (in continental US)... Comes with Baseball Hat and the Vector Expansion license, works perfectly. I'm upgrading to TIR 5 with clip or I would never sell it!

Steam version has same Starforce DRM as yuplay version. That's right, only 3 installs even with the Steam version. That means no buy from me.
If you simply uninstall the game before reinstalling the "3 installs" will last 100 years. If by some miracle you have 3 hard drive crashes and need more installs you contact them, but I would say at that point you have a lot more to worry about than DRM's....

By popular demand, this is a copy of my ViewUI file. Not sure it will work this way. If anyone has trouble with it let me know and we'll work out an alternate method.
The path, once again is
OS drive:\Documents and Settings\your user folder\Application Data(usually a hidden folder)\Microsoft\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields
In Vista 64 (and I think Win7) Microsoft has renamed "Application Data" to "Appdata" and the Application Data folder is actually what is now called a "junction", which merely directs programs to the Appdata folder. The ViewUI.xml file is located in OS drive:\Documents and Settings\your user folder\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields.
I renamed my ViewUI.xml ot OriginalViewUI.xml and copied Von Baur's file over. About to test it now.

At least in training you can fly german planes as well.
I've just fly from the north edge to the south edge in the Canterbury map, at a average speed of 510Km/h, and it took me 8 minutes. So It took more or less the same from east to west. I'd say that wop maps are around 70x70km. I didn't try with other maps, but probably it's the same. Besides being an immersion killer, it's not bad for small type missions, but for a campaign?.... I bet Storm of War will have bigger maps.
Now in OFF what's the average distance that a plane fly in a mission?
You can fly the BF109's in Online deathmatches too, I was in one last night for an hour.
Found something that may help smooth the game out

What that does is start the program changing the run priority from normal to realtime, which is normally reserved for the top processes. In the past doing that could cause a system crash but glad to hear it's stable now. You can also try /HIGH, which is one step below REALTIME and one step above NORMAL..
