Forget the EA. Watch out for the Enemy Pilot! (Video)
Capt. Winters replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hi Hellshade, I imagine it would be horrific, I have a book at home called Silk and Barbed Wire which recounts the stories of Allied airmen who where shot down over Europe in WWII. one of the stories has a bomber crew bailing out in daylight, the navigator has just pulled his chute and settled into the decent when his chute partial collapses, then a person slips off the canopy and falls past him only metres away. It was the pilot who had jumped but his chute must have been hit by flak or something as it was just a shredded mess flapping about just above his head. he tells of looking his mate in the eye as he went past and just watched him dissapear clawing hopelessly against the empty sky into the vast landscape below, never to be seen again. To see anyone going to certain death would be horrific but to see a mate go I imagine would be even worse. But in WWI you didnt need to see the pilot up close to get that sence of dread, many have written of the horror of watching machines going down out of control with perfectly healthy pilots going to certain death. And not just pilots, I have an account of a soldier who watched a two seater, engine shot out pilot slumped in the forward cockpit, rear gunner standing up waving his arms about, doing a very slow wide spin into the ground, (taking several minutes to do so) and he could hear the paniced screams of the rear gunner just before it hit the ground. the rear gunner was still alive when he reached the wreck but died shortly after. he says that image haunted him for almost 50 years. actually thinking about it more I think the book is "The 13th mission" not "Silk and Barbed Wire" regards Rob. -

Corrupted CFS3 (but OFF is ok)
Capt. Winters replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
Hi Widow, you should be fine, but if your really concerned, back up the main game folders and the applocation data folders to a safe location, do the install and then put them back. that way if you do get a corruption your overwriting it with your safe back up files. HTH's regards Rob. -
trouble with skinned plan
Capt. Winters replied to sitting_duck's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
Hi Mark, what I meant there was the AI planes have differant FM to the player flyable planes and that he may not like the way a plane designed to be AI would behaive with a human pilot. at least thats how I thought you had set it up. sorry if I cuased confusion guys. regards Rob. -
trouble with skinned plan
Capt. Winters replied to sitting_duck's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
Hi SD, In OFF there are around 100 planes in the aircraft folder, each plane has several versions lets look at the AlbDIII, in the mission builder you see 11 AlbDIII's to pick from but only 1 of them is the actual player aircraft. this is the lsit of planes for AlbDIII available in the mission builder. Aces (AI) used to get individual ace colour schemes in game. Alb_DIII_AC1 Alb_DIII_AC2 Alb_DIII_AC3 Alb_DIII_AC4 Alb_DIII_AC5 QC1 (player aircraft) used by yourself in QC, Missions & MP Alb_DIII_QC1 Squad aircraft (AI) used to get differnt flights into the game with differant colour schemes to your flight. some of these may have VC files. Alb_DIII_SQ1 Alb_DIII_SQ2 Alb_DIII_SQ3 Alb_DIII_SQ4 Alb_DIII_Sqd So by using the set of planes above, the game can generate a mission that has multiple examples of the DIII with individual skins: *your plane (with what ever skin is relevent to your unit) *upto 5 differnat coloured individual ace aircraft *ypto 5 differant squadrons of DIII with differant unit markings. the various types listed above have differing values in each of the FM files etc to get accurate behaiver across all plane types during te mission. so it may not be a good thing to fly one of the squad planes for example as it may be toned down a bit to restrict unfair AI behaivor etc. The draw back at this point is all of the short names found in the xdp files are exactly the same. the mission builder uses the aircrafts short name to list them in the available aircraft list, means in the mission builder it is hard to determine which is and which is not a player flyable aircraft as all of the planes appear with the same name. However the aircraft list in the QC and MP menus looks at the aircrafts .air file, which uses either "0" (player) or "2" (AI) to determine what gets shown in the list. the answer is to have the short names ammended for the AI aircraft so they can be identified in teh mission builder as non player aircraft. This I imagine will be in a future update, as the team work through MP and mission issues. HTH's regards Rob. -
trouble with skinned plan

Hi SD, The plane your talking about will be an AI only plane. which will show up on the list of aircraft for mission building and can be called upon for use in missions, however the aircraft name will not show in the aircraft list in game. mostly AI aircraft do not have cockpit files etc to keep HD space to a minimum, there used as wingmen and target aircraft where the player does not have need of VC files etc in those planes. This is control by the air file in each plane, you can change it but it would be of little use as theres no VC files, you would then need to adapt te correct VC model to which ever plane you are speaking of. Led_Zepplin over at teh SOH has explained in your post there how to change it. In CFS3 or ETO MAW etc its OK to change some of these settings, but for OFF you really dont want to be flying in the AI designated planes as they have differant settings etc to get around some of the CFS3 glitches. you may not like flying them at all :) regards Rob. -
Hi Guys, Theres no way for individual players to have a personel aircraft custom skins and all of them be veiwable in game by every player. Each player can have a custom skin for the N17 say, but only the individual will see that skin, the rest of the players will see whatever N17 skin they have in their aircraft folder. theres no way for a players flight of aircraft in CFS3 to have varying skins across the flight, all aircraft will use the same skin on any given installation. For the Players flight, the flight is made up of multiple renditions of the same model for any given aircraft type used. even if you enter differant model names into slots 2,3,4,5 it will use the model name in slot 1 for all to determine the plane used. however for enemy aircraft flights in missions these can be made up of multiple model types and these models have their own skins. so if you had say 5 standalones of the Dr1 you could have an enemy flight that had 5 historical ace paint schemes attacking you. HTH's regards Rob.
