  1. Combined FM and AI Weight Mod Complete!

Thank you HPW, For sharing your work, I will definately be downloading your latest effort and trying it out. best regards Rob.
  2. New Wireless Headphones...

Hi Guys, Great looking headphones, I've thought of wireless for some time now, but cant bring myself to stop using my old Zelman surround sound headphones. (elongated things with 7 speakers in each earphone.) With regards to glasses, I have put a small slit in the padding which allows the arm of my glasses to sit in the middle of the padding and it has removed the pressure on the arm of the glasses. I dont notice any extra noise coming from my surroundings by doing this. regards Rob.
  3. * * PHASE 4 PREVIEW MOVIE 1 ! * *

Thanks Shred, that looks much better. Elephant, thanks mate.. I have real player but for some reason I have lost the little drop down bar that comes up when you hover over a youtube video allowing me to download. I think I'll have a go at reinstalling RP and see how I go. the movie looked great in low res but Hi res its something else altogether, cant wait to get my hands on this one.. regards Rob.
  4. * * PHASE 4 PREVIEW MOVIE 1 ! * *

Hi Guys, I have seen a few people post that they have downloaded the hi res version of the video, can someone please direct me to the place where this is done. All I can find is the youtube version on the OFF site. I can see older movies available for download in HiRes but not the current P4 movie. (maybe I cant see the trees for the forest.) thanks, regards Rob.
  5. OT....New CFS3 mod released

Hi Guys, I regularily fly into a mine site in Nth Laos (near Vietnam) flying in a Cessna 208 Caravan. landing speed around 80knt. I have seen on many occasions wing tip vortices being formed on final approach and touch down onto the dirt strip. regards Rob.
  6. OT....New CFS3 mod released

Hi Jarhead, The game exiting out to change theatres is not really a problem, it had to be done this way to allow for the new terrain files and assocociated scenery files etc to be swapped into the main game structure. This is very similar to the way OFF works (everytime you drop back to the OFF manager you are shutting down the CFS3 part of OFF, and the OFF manager too swaps in and out files to set up the CFS3 part of the game to match the criteria you picked) except Rising Sun does not have the sophisticted front end manager, just a simple number selection which runs a bat file that does the work. Aircraft, there are approximately 66 differant aircraft models in game (with at least 5 or 6 of these models never seen in CFS3 before), and approximately 266 historically researched aircraft in game based off these models as standalones. and theres at least 4 more new models in the works as I type. all of the newer models are absolutely brilliant with exceptional detail. (as a comparison OFF has approximately 44 differant models of aircraft included) Campaigns are in the works, but they will never probably match the campaign structure we currently enjoy with OFF. but then again OFF doesnt use CFS3 to run its campaigns, the manager does all the work and simply sets up the required mission for the CFS3 part to run and then tracks the outcomes and updates the data in the manager . But having said that each theatre has very well researched historical mission sets to give a feel for the combat encountered in each area. Hi Elephant, If you really like PTO, I can strongly recommend the download, once its set up correctly its a safe and stable platform with many many improvements over the original CFS3 format. It has a wide scope for mission types and combatant countries with every major particpant included from 1937 (Sino wars) through to 1945. List of countries available in game. <Alliances> <Alliance ID="Allies" Name="Allies"> <Country ID="Britain"/> <Country ID="USA"/> <Country ID="Australia"/> <Country ID="China"/> <Country ID="AVG"/> <Country ID="US_Navy"/> <Country ID="Other_Allied_Nations"/> <Country ID="Russia"/> <Country ID="New_Zealand"/> <Country ID="Netherlands"/> <Country ID="US_marines"/> </Alliance> <Alliance ID="Axis" Name="Axis"> <Country ID="Japan_IJN"/> <Country ID="Vichy_France"/> <Country ID="Other_Axis_Nations"/> <Country ID="Japan_AAF"/> </Alliances> <Countries> Other axis nations represented so far are Manchukuo and Thailand. It also has over 60 historical biographies of pilots who flew in the various theatres. Its still in beta and has lots of work to be done, but was released so the modding community could take it up and run with it, and any work of note would then be built into patches to keep the install process simple for the vast majority of people who dont know how or cant be bothered to go and search for hundreds of differant files, as Jarhead mentioned in his post. anyway I'm rambling, I was just trying to say grab the download you having nothing to lose but some time, and you may just like it. regards Rob.
  7. * * PHASE 4 PREVIEW MOVIE 1 ! * *

Hi Guys, Great video, the shear amount of work represented is mind blowing. I will definately be parting with some cash for this one. To all the guys, thank you for continuing to bring WWI air combat to life, which allows me to place myself (if only sparingly, and from the safety of my study) into the places and situations I have read about in so many books over the last 30 years. regards Rob.
  8. OT What Job do you do?

Hi Guys, I left school at 16 to take up a sign writing apprentiship, which I finished, but did not really enjoy. I really wanted to be a soldier like my old man (career soldier) so I then joined the Australian army, was medically discharged 9 months later after a small accident on an assult course. from there I went to work for a mining company assisting exploration geologists. gradually I worked my way into exploration drilling then underground mining, after 10 years of this I went back to university to study geology. once completed I went back underground as a mine geologist, now 10 years later I am the Chief Geologist for a mid level mining company working on a fly in fly out roster from northern China to Austraila looking after an underground zinc mine. apart from work along the way I got married (21 years this year) and have 4 great kids. I have a interest in all things military which lead to me collecting militaria from WWI & WWII to the point were I have my own mini museum at home (much to my wifes discust) regards Rob.
  9. gotha files

Hi Guys, The Gotha from Reg's will work in OFF P3, but bare in mind its still a WIP and is not supported by OBD etc in anyway. Its flyable and can be landed and takes off etc, has a nice bomb loadout, bombaimers station and two manable gun stations. it will only show up in quick combat when using the cfs3 QC menu you cant fly it from the manager QC list or in campaigns. it will also work in any missions that have been built which call for it. Seacondor the owner of Reg's is very ill and is not in a position to update the site with the newer VC textures. I would check with forum member Catch22 for the missing textures I sent them all to him a whiles back now, with a view to uploading. I can also forward the files onto those who would like them, just PM me an email address. although I only get to check this forum seldomly as were I work has trouble getting to the site, somedays I can get in and others I cant. regards Rob.
  10. best ace

Hi Al, no mate, the Tiger moth has an 120-hp (89-kW) De Havilland Gipsy III piston engine and a fixed pitch prop (Gypsy Major wooded prop with brass leading edge) 86" long 52.7 pitch Maximum speed: 109 mph at 1,000 ft (175 km/h at 300 m) aerobatics take place at lower speeds than this of course. this is pretty much the specs for most front line fighters in 1917.. infact some WWI planes have better performance than the TM. as for FM I did say they were still being worked on, and they werent all there yet, I was just pointing out that some of the planes in OFF do roll quite nicely. and that your statement about HP etc was not quite correct. regards Rob.
  11. best ace

Hi Guys Hi Al, This is note correct mate, I can tell you from personell hands on stick time (Tiger Moth, which has very similar control characteristics as the early WWI types) that an aileron roll is very achievable in a bi-plane at 110mph. a lot of work was put into the FM to try and get the roll rates correct, they still have a way to go for some of the planes. but others are quite close. The Pup and Bristol scout both Roll quite well, obviously things like an Fe are going to struggle but you should be able to rotate around the long axis of the plane using aileron in a dive in any of the planes in OFF. that is not quite the case yet and I think thats what BJ is getting at. The flat turn in the DR1 I have achieved this in a fashion, use say left rudder but apply some right aileron to offset the dipping of the wing to the left whilst using the rudder. regards Rob.
  12. Post a pic of your town

Hi Guys, This is my home town Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. 100Km west of Victoria's capital Melbourne.. I now live about 15 minutes out of Ballarat in a very small town called Miners Rest, theres nothing there to really show a picture of... regards Rob.
  13. Oldest man in the World

Hi Guys, I would love to hear his life story, recounted in person. but I will have to settle for his autobiography Kitchener's Last Volunteer. Its amazing to think of all he has seen and been apart of, as mentioned above he has lived through all the major events or the 20th century that seen the world change so much. But at the same time I' feel somewhat sorry for him, as pointed out above he is the last of a generation. he has lived to see all that was dear to him in his formative years disappear, some for the better somethings probably not. he's outlived all his mates, his wife, his children, he has experianced much, but lost even more... I would like to live to a ripe old age, but I do not wish to out live my kids.. dont get me wrong I think he is a grand old chap, and the stories he can tell just facinate me, I just wonder how he feels deep inside as it all slipped away. I know an older gentleman who just past 100 and he has said many times if he had his time over and could control the ending he would have liked to have gone out around the time of his wife and most of his mates. He still likes life but finds it somewhat lonely at times, as few can share in the same experiances as he had. but then again I know some older guys who would'nt be dead for quids.... regards Rob.
  14. Which would you choose?

Hi Guys, Hi Mo, I cant fly a flight simulator now wothout TrakIR. its a must. I have rudder peddles which are great for immersion, but when I'm away from home with work (3 weeks at a time) I only have a twist stick at camp and I dont really miss the peddles that much. but the one trip I left TrakIR at home I was pretty much at a loss to play anything aircraft related. TrakIR travels with me to and from work in a modified plastic cigerette box wrapped in padding. whereas the peddles just sit at home awaiting my return. regards Rob.
  15. Controls locking up in flight

Hi Guys, Hi Vasco, Have you tried turning off the CH manager, I have a similar set up to you Pro Peddles, Throttle Quadrant and Stick, but I have never run the manager part of the CH hardware. I simply plugged in the various parts allowed windows to recognise them and then in game assigned the various buttons and levers on the throttle quadrant and joystick to perform the various ingame functions. Thats also the way I did my IL2 setup. one day I will delve into the manger part for key binds etc but for the moment I'm getting everything I need out of the assign functions in each game. plus its all a bit confusing for me in the CH manager... :) regards Rob.
  16. Help with rudders please

Hi Steve, Al's on the money if I remember correctly scroll through your control commands as assigned in game until you find the elevator. I think you will find a primary key assignment and a secondary key assignment if you delete the second one I believe your problems will go away. I'll check this tonight for you and see how I got around it. I too have CH products not seitek but I too could get the plane to alter its attitude with the toe brakes. and I'm pretty sure thats how I fixed it. although it was a long time ago :) HTH's regards Rob.
  17. OFF/CFS3 Locking Up

Hi Guys, I had that exact same problem last year and it turned out to be the fan on the northbridge chipset was only spinning at about half the required pace (dirty). unfortunately by the time I had worked that out the chip was damaged beyond repair and a new MB was required. regards Rob.
  18. Problem with VC

Hi Guys, Some clarification on plane types and why they are there. One of the reason we have AI planes is to reduce the amount of load and space required on your hard drive. the AI planes do not have a cockpit model file included in there folders a s they were never meant to be flown. no amount of key assignments etc is going to give you a VC view in any of the AI planes in OFF. But the main reason for 5 or 6 AI planes of each type of craft being included was to be able to give you all those lovely flights you see going about there bussiness when your in a campiagn mission or a single player mission with out chewing up several hundred extra MB of HD space. example you are taking off with your flight in your 56 squadron SE5's and to you left is another flight of SE5's from 70 squadron with there correct markings. without multiple versions of SE5 this would not have been possible, or perhaps you have just come up against a flight of very brightly coloured Fokker DrI's its the AI planes that allow this to happen. and this leads to the next reason for AI planes as opposed to fully flyable. (tip for mission builders for non player flights or enamy flights you can have multiple model types listed in the one flight and they will all show up ingame ie the circus I just described above, whereas a player flight can only have one model type assigned to it. I use this method for Battle of Britain period missions in the ETO addon to have crack german units like the abberville boys all showing up at once in teh same flight) setting them to AI stops the aircraft list ingame from becoming to long with all those repeated aircraft of the same type but differant name, which would mean when setting up an quick combat mission it would take a month of sundays to scroll through the list before you get to the Spad or Roland should you be flying for the bad guys.. In a normal CFS3 install you see a list of planes for each country when you set up a quick combat or when you change your aircraft flight whilst loading a mission. With AI aircraft by changing of the plane type from 0 too 2 it means that the plane will not show in either of those lists. this would be the same for OFF if those menus were still enabled but the OFF manager controls what planes are selectable for the most part. (for the guys who flew P1 or P2 or any of the other CFS3 addons etc you know what I mean.) mostly you get AI aircraft as player flyable aircraft when a mission builder has accidently selected an AI aircraft from the list when building the mission (as unlike the ingame lists all the planes including AI show up on the selection list when building a mission). As pointed out above planes with the asterix are the ones for player flights the rest of the planes (for a given type) are so you can assign other flights in your mission using teh same plane type in the mission that may then have a differant skin to the flight your in as a player. (as in CFS3 there is no way to apply multiple skins to the same model) AI planes are set to AI only in there .air file you can edit this file to make the planes flyable (ie show up in a selection list)but this would mean your going to get that Funky view (as it was described above) everytime you were to fly that particular aircraft, as there is simply no model file for the game to call on when your in the pilot seat. to realy make an AI flyable you would need to copy a cockpit.M3D file from the player flyable version of the plane in question and put it into the AI aircraft model folder then rename it to match and then hex edit it to match the new texture name that is being used by the AI plane instead of the texture name being used by the plane you just copied it from. but theres no need to do any of this as we a have a player flyable version for each type of plane included in OFF. HTH's regards Rob.
  19. Track IR Center Key - Bind to JS?

Thanks Al, its been a wee hiatus, but will be hanging around a bit more now. regards Rob.
  20. Track IR Center Key - Bind to JS?

Hi Guys, Hi Barkhorn1x, ok to assign a joystick key as the centre button do the following *open up the main TrakIR program *then select the profile tab from across the top of the menu screen (tabs include: Main, profile, news) *then highlight the profile from the list you are using (I use the combat flight one) *then select the edit button from across the bottom of the menu screen. *then in the new menu screen that pops up select the hot key button. *then from the 3 available options (puase, Centre, Precission) select the centre change button. *then press the button you would like to assign as the new centre button. *then hit the OK button and your done. now in game everytime you hit the new button you assigned you will re-centre your trakIR view. HTH's regards Rob.
  21. The problem with campaigns

Hi Guys, just for the record single missions do work in OFF P2 there were some dev missions left in there by mistake which fail to load in the final P2 product. But 3rd party single missions are a working part of OFF P2 and you should not have any trouble running them. Thats assuming you have all the required files for each miission, ie spawns, facilities, any 3rd party aircraft etc most mission have a readme file stating what extra files may be required. there was no effort on the part of the developing team to remove or reduce the ability to play single missions. regards Rob.
  22. Enough to make you weep!

Hi Guys, Shred beat me to it, I know this site well as its just a short trip down the track from home, the plane itself is a static replica made in the late 70's it has no engine or cockpit detail. infact its a pretty poor model when you see it up close. dont get to upset over it. regards Rob. PS Shred, your slipping mate! I'm surprised you didnt mention the Arthur Cobby markings of this plane, thats the sort of detail I'm used to from your ever impressive knowledge of WWI planes.
  23. Track IR Center Key - Bind to JS?

Hi Guys, I'm at work now, I'll check when home (about 2 hrs) it can be done, as I have done it. theres an option in one of the menu tabs for TraKIR4 that allows you to select which button you want to recentre trakir, you simply click the option then press the new button you wish to use. I have selected button 3 on my MS sidewinder. works a treat.. I'll post back with more info on exactly where to find this tick box once home. regards Rob.
  24. Spowith Pup B2509

Hi Guys, Hi Beani, your Pup is looking sweet, and you have picked the best airfoce in the world as your subject matter regards Rob.
  25. Uninstalling CFS3

Hi Guys, be careful using the uninstall option from the start menu, I have had occasions were it has uninstalled not just CFS3 but parts of my MAW and ETO install as well. for my thinking the easiest way to do it is navigate to these 3 locations and delete the folders. Main Game folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 3 (folder) Apllication data folder C:\Documents and Settings\Client\Application Data\Microsoft\Combat Flight Simulator 3.0 (folder) Screenshot and mission dat folder C:\Documents and Settings\Client\My Documents\Combat Flight Simulator 3.0 (folder) these are the only folders that house files for CFS3, and will not harm any standalone installs such as OFF or ETO, MAW etc if they are deleted. regards Rob.
